I agree with you about pocket clips. The Double lock back design isn’t one that I have but I can see it’s a usable knife. I will be looking out for the glow in the dark Sodbuster in the new year. Great show and tell my friend 🎅🏻👍.

I like the bladeshapes on this double lockback and the luminescens is very good. Mind you it's an official Robert Townsend design as specificated on the bolster. I do hope the lock on the skinner blade will get smoother over time. The clip well i would have removed it immediatly too. All pocketclips on traditionals should be banned, there is a reason why they invented sheaths and slips for them; you don't need a pocketclip. I carry my traditionals safely in the pocket without any clip. The more modern folders i use the pocketclip. Thank you for the extended review Tobias.

I like the Glow series. I don't have all of them. I wish Rough Ryder would make all the regular traditional patterns when they do a series. They usually skip a Doctor's knife, Sunfish, toothpicks of various sizes, etc.

I think that knife definitely punches above it's weight class as far as the glowing goes! The blade shapes are nice to, and I would have removed the pocket clip also. All in all, seems like a really decent knife. Thanks for sharing this glow experiment, the comparisons were awesome. Cheers, my friend.

When I purchased the double-lockback I overlooked that it had the clip also. Being left-handed as you are, it had to go. A much better knife without. Thanks for the glow tests.

That clip is annoying in either hand. I wished they'd try to stop modernizing traditional knives. Case has also been trying to do it and they just look silly.

The idea of a glow in the dark tool is great for seeing it in the dark. I wonder if picking it up in total darkness is a good idea if the blade happens to be open. That makes having a flashlight handy; a good idea too. The best thing about this knife is seeing it glowing in the dark and not seeing the big R on the bolster or better yet the pocket clip. I think it might be interesting if Rough Rider made this knife in two models. One without the big-R and pocket clip and one with these two modern features. That might answer the big question of what their customers like better. A Victorinox Stayglow Rescue Tool is a great idea; I am not so sure that is reason to make a traditional pocket knife pattern that glows in the dark a good idea either.🎁🎄😺😊

Well, if the blade is open, and you're grabbing the glow portion, you should be okay. The older glow knives lack the Big R. I wished they'd hurry up and get over it.

I got the other RR double lockback (the brown smooth bone one) & yes I don't like the pocket clip either. I took mine off (& put the screws back in). I like it better now! Thanks for showing this one!

Did you need to shorten the screws? When I tried to put the screws back in they prevented the blade from opening and closing properly.

I was very excited to see this knife but like you a lot of the wind was taken out of my sails after I saw the pocket clip. In my opinion pocket clips are best for one handed opening knives not traditional models. But I will check out the Glo series.

Thanks Tobias. So far on Amazon SG all that's available as far as RR lockbacs is a two bladed one with a lockback for one blade, not the Glow series too. Great review with history and glow test :)

Really neat to hear the history of double lockbacks. I own a full size (4.65" closed length) Spyderco Dyad Sprint Run with gray G10 scales from 2013, The Dyad was their interpretation of a double lock back. 1 blade is plain edge & the other is serrated. Spyderco had other models, including the Dyad Jr (3.218" closed length) & Micro Dyad (2.469" closed length). I believe the Micro Dyad was available with Jigged Bone covers & had Bolsters. Unfortunately, all these are discontinued.

The pocket clip does not do justice to the rest of the knife, I would have dumped it too.I have been wondering about getting one of RR's double lockbacks for a awhile, now I think I will, thanks for the review.

I removed the pocket clip on the Double immediately. I have a couple of the RR glow in the dark knives, and the double holds a charge much longer than the others. As a matter of fact, just leaving it out exposed to sunlight is enough to power it all night long. I leave it on my dresser as a night light.

Definitely agree with you concerning pocket clips. I like a clip on a modern folder , but they have no business on a traditional. Seems a little odd they would do that. A cool design otherwise, though.

Hello Tobias. I agree , throw the clip. Put the scews back in with a drop of 5 minute epoxy then file down the heads.

When the clip is in place, the Screws are threaded through the bolsters and into the brass liners. The holes pass all the way to the tang. If you remove the clip, the screw will pass through the liners and lock against the tang, preventing the knife from opening. You would need to shorten the screws approximately 1.5 mm to prevent them from interfering with the action. Even then, you would would have the rounded heads of the screws protruding from the bolster. All in all, it looks cleaner without the screws. I think I'll just put piece of foil in the hole! LOL

I usually avoid knives with pocket clips and if I can remove them I do, I have two that I have left the clips on both have slim handles so they feel okay in the hand, both are modern knives as well and I mostly buy traditional and definitely don't want clips on them.

I can see why that big R would be a problem. No one would think you were carrying a more expensive case xx. Personally I never buy anything that would embarrass me. Fortunately RR knives don't embarrass me so I'm good.

One of my daily carries is a Rough Rider. Four years an counting on a knife that people said would be fall apart in a less than a year. It remains rock solid. Yeah, the blade is scratched and it's been sharpened a time or two but then it is beginning its fifth year in the pocket.

I don't get the whole glow in the dark knives or sights. After being in the pocket all day the knife isn't going to glow unless you intentionally charge it before it gets dark. It is a fun novelty type option in my opinion. But I don't have a charging booth either.

I have actually stopped buying rough riders with the big R, I just cant look at it anymore, & here in the uk right now almost every new rr that Heinnie Haynes gets in has the ugly R on it. I also dont like pocket clips, the o ly knife I have that had it was the pocket cleaver, God knows why you would need to carry that thing , its massive in a front pocket, funny enough, it also has a massive R on it, but the clip is now in the bin.

If they go to the trouble of giving it glow covers, presumably to help find it if misplaced in the dark, why bother having a clip which is meant to compel you to put in right back in-pocket after use ? Seems redundant and unnecessary.

I don't like the look of It, anyway i think It would make a practical outdoor knife, something akin to a modern Hawbaker Special. The clip May Be uncomfortable, but if It interferes with the less used Blade i would keep It to avoid losing It when carrying It in jackets or vests with open top pockets (not trousers) .

The only knife I ever lost had a pocket clip that failed to clip securely. I've never lost a knife by having it fall out of pocket. But I can see how the clip could be handy. Its just not comfortable to me and it does nothing for the looks.
