Every spring I look forward to a few pairs of Tree swallows nesting in my bluebird boxes. They're fun to watch and have a very pleasant chatter when on the wing.

When I was a child we had swallows make nests in the bird house that we had hung on the side of the house. They were great bug killers. We would watch them swoop at and catch bugs, especially in the evening. Some birds like to use the fur off of dogs and cats to fluff their nests. The undercoat makes the best bedding for them. You can take the fur and put it in a bag with holes like what they put oranges in and hang it where the birds can get to it safely in the spring and summer. Anyone with a dog or cat that has a fluffy coat should be able to collect a good amount of fur for them over the winter.
