What speaker stands are those, I just picked up a pair of the SVS Ultra Evolution and a pair of Martin Logain XT B100 for a side by side to choose which to place in my setup but need stands and its not proving easy.

@@jimzahora7819 They are B&W stands that I had bought when I owned a pair of B&W 805 Diamonds. I think the model name is "B&W FS-805". They are nice stands but kind of expensive (about $800 new back in the day).

The biggest difference I can hear between the old and the new series is in the tweeter. SVS has really gotten this new tweeter dialed in just right and it is so smooth and detailed. I will talk more about this in my review video which will be out on 5/1/24.

@@generationbehindhifi Can you not set the colours in the impedance graphing software? Alternatively, If you load the captured file into something like IRFan View the "auto adjust colours" function might solve the problem for you. BTW... nice channel, keep up the good work.
@generationbehindhifi

@@Douglas_Blake_579 I never tried to adjust any of the colors in the software before. You're the first person that has said they are having issues viewing the data from the impedance sweeps. Are you trying to view it on your phone, computer, or screen? If I could change the colors, what do you think would be better to make it easier to read? I'll take a look into IRFan View and changing the colors in the software program. Thanks for that suggestion. If I offered the impedance graphs in the community section during the release of each video would that help? Thanks! I really appreciate the support.

@@generationbehindhifi I suppose it is possible the problem is at my end... but I'm not seeing it anywhere else, so I think I would rank that as "unlikely". I just took a look at the DATS software and there are 2 options that might help. The first will display "bold" traces using wider lines and the second one allows you to choose a lighter background colour for the graphs, which might also improve things a bit. I do hope this is helpful...

@@tpn8402 Thank you! I think I'll leave the measurement part to Erin's Audio Corner. He does a great job with that! I might do some in room measurements with speakers to show the response curves. However, I don't know how valuable it would be since speakers will yield different results in different rooms.
@tpn8402
@tpn8402 7 ай бұрын
@@generationbehindhifi yeah, that could be nice to get some basic idea of the speaker's tonality. But like you said, I don't know how much the room would mess with the usefulness of that.. @@generationbehindhifi - Some people put an over-emphasis on measurements. If you change out the cheaper parts in the x-over for better ones, it will sound better even though they will measure the same. It all boils down to how it sounds to you.

" Ultra Evolution" using a polyester cap and not a polypropylene on the tweeter?
@generationbehindhifi
@generationbehindhifi 5 ай бұрын
Did you see the "MET" stamped on the capacitor in the video? That stands for metallized polyester film.
@Chuck--
@Chuck-- 5 ай бұрын
@@generationbehindhifi That is what I'm saying... a speaker in their Ultra Evolution line should have a polypropylene cap in the tweeter circuit not a MET.
@generationbehindhifi
@generationbehindhifi 5 ай бұрын
@@Chuck-- IMO I think the cabinet and diamond tweeter more than make up for it. The cabinet construction and tweeter are the best I have seen and heard in this price range so far. Changing a cap on a crossover board is easy, but redesigning a cabinet that sings or replacing a tweeter that is subpar isn't. IMO I think SVS hit a homerun with these.
@Chuck--

@@generationbehindhifi I have the SVS Utra Center (original) and am not satisfied with the sound quality. I've considered the GR Reseach crossover redesign with high quality parts, but do not trust that it will perform like I want. I question how someone in 2-3 days can design a x-over network by computer models and not listen to the results b4 selling it.

The price of this speaker is ridiculous. Except for the tweeter, it's a mass-produced product and the crossover may work, but the components are abysmally bad. It would be OK for less than half the price.
@generationbehindhifi
@generationbehindhifi Ай бұрын
Speaker design is all about compromises and at $1200 per pair you're not going to get the best of everything. If you really think this speaker is "ridiculous" priced, then please don't take a look at my Focal Aria 906 look inside video (MSRP $2200 pair). Personally I'm quite happy with Evolution bookshelf. The quality of the drivers and cabinet on them are in line with other speakers in this price category. If you know of a speaker with even better damped drivers and superior construction quality of the cabinet for $1200 or less, I'm all ears.
@Brunello143
@Brunello143 Ай бұрын
@generationbehindhifi For $1200 I can build something much better. With better chassis and a better crossover. For me, the crossover in the high frequency range would be Mundorf foil coils and Mundorf capacitors or Jantzen capacitors. I would also use other chassis. Viva has a very good 7" bass/midrange driver with a paper membrane and a Peerless / Tymphany XT25TG-30/04 (XT-300/K4). I will construct the housing in period-correct fashion and in 25mm multiplex. This can then be veneered or painted. I prefer automotive paint. It sounds better, guaranteed.
@generationbehindhifi
@generationbehindhifi Ай бұрын
@@Brunello143 C'mon. That isn't a fair comparison. :) That's great you can build a better set yourself, but many can't. If you know of a better set of bookshelves for $1200 I'm all ears.
