13:30 that is the battery heater, connected to the batteries coolant exit connection. Heated coolant goes back in after going through the pump. There have been a couple of reports of this heater failing and causing a HV ground fault.

Would love to see a video on the underside of a 2020 VW ID.3 and how they look & how they hold up / any prevention maintenance that would be required for good ownership.

Same as all EVs, just clean and lubricate the brakes once a year or so.

Still waiting for the battery recall on my 2018 Kona - must get round to chasing them - Hyundaia were not at all proactive on this

Our 2021 kona had the coolant recall. It has gone that far. Not battery. The old coolant was the blue of screen wash, the new is much darker. Useless I know if you don't have a comparison.

Matt have you sold your Model S now? My friend said its on Autotrader (but wasn't sure if it was yours) but it seems to be not there now when i look.

It was written off in Dec 2023 and was sold via Copart by the insurance company.

Would have been nice to see some efficiency numbers from the display while you were doing this. Interested to know if this is more or less efficient than an Ioniq

Today in our non heat pump 2021 Kona 64 we are seeing 4.7m/kWh. The weather is perfect.

The Kona is much less efficient than the Ioniq due to having more power.

We get an Avg of 3.8 doing motorway miles in winter. About 4.5 on AVG overall since new.

Looks a bit grubby under the bonnet. I assume the 2020 Kona is slightly different as the charger will do 11kw on mine at work charge point.

The 11kW changer looks exactly the same apart from the label and AC connector.

What battery manufacturer does the car get after replacement. Is the battery made by H Greenpower. I have a Kona EV 2021 with a new facelift with a battery pack made in 2021.07.15 by H Greenpower.

We have a 2021 facelift and have had the coolant recall. We don't believe we are subject to the battery as that came about before our production year.

@@stulop My coolant level dropped to minimum last month and it has been topped up by the dealer. Also I have an appointment in the middle of June with the Hyundai dealership to investigate the problem.

I got a 12v battery recall done on mine
@Nikoo0334 ай бұрын
I wonder why manufacturers are still using 12V batteries instead of simply dedicate a few cells of the main pack to perform the same function each time you turn on the EV. The lifespan of these cells is much longer, they are more reliable and would avoid the extra weight and bulky connections. You could still have the auto-charge function from the main pack.

That looks like the green coolant that was used in the early Kona;s
@mikeselectricstuff4 ай бұрын
I think the early ones used conductive coolant, later chnaged to pink non-conductive which is expensive - normally changed at 40K but the crystallisation issue meant this often got done under warranty.
@kevinbailey19614 ай бұрын
@@mikeselectricstuff Yes I have had mine done under the service campaign. The BSC-2 coolant used is light blue.
@boredKiwi4 ай бұрын
@@mikeselectricstuff, the pink coolant is Hyundai's more recent conventional type, superseding the green. Apparently it can be mixed with the green and now after the battery change mine is red.

This is one of the worst videos I've seen for a long time. Rather than doing your homework beforehand you repeatedly say "I guess this is...", or you put your assumptions across as fact. Does that Kona really use the air conditioning compressor as a heat pump? My Nero had two separate units doing those functions, and it looks pretty much the same as your Kona under the bonnet. Sorry Matt, this was a definite "thumbs down"!
@MrBinabanana4 ай бұрын
All Kona electrics (at least in this climate) come with a heat pump as standard. It is/was an option on many other brands including the eNiro. However, it's worth noting that many EVs with a heat pump also have a smaller PTC heater to assist with dehumidification in the winter in certain climatic conditions and also as a primitive form of backup heat in the event of refrigerant loss or compressor failure. Personally, I wouldn't consider an EV without a heat pump; combined with the aerodynamics, it's why my Ioniq 38kWh seems to achieve largely the same range as my old VV ID.3 62kWh did.
