I'm an American, and an evolutionary biologist and paleontologist (now retired), but I worked for several years for an Archaeology Survey Service here in New England. I also spent some years in mathematics and astrophysics. I've been bingeing on this entire series for quite some time, and while I admire everyone on the Time Team, I've become especially impressed, over time, with Stewart and his astonishing powers of deduction. John Gater is my second favorite.

A Sociologist, Journalist, and Historian here, located in NW Tennessee, and I am always thrilled with Stewart's Landcape Archaeology + I love Maps! I'm not that taken with Anglo Saxon Archaeology (they weren't nice to my People, "lineage of County Kerry, Ireland), but I also adore Helen, whom is feature in many of the Time Team later Episodes. It's an all together great Team and each offering such fabulous Personalities and Professional Talents.

As a glass maker I was tickled to see the stem. Modern replicas of those gasses are made exactly the same way today as they were then. That is an exceptionally meaningful find for me. The drinking glasses of the period that survive today command very high prices among collectors.

I feel so sad when I hear an historical building was demolished because “it became too old and rickety to maintain.” For a society that built so many buildings over millennia, it seems so few have been preserved (most are robbed out for reuse it seems). I am grateful our thinking has changed and now we look to preserve our physical history rather than plow it over. I am heartened by Time Team finding the remnants of these once ancient and magnificent buildings at least. Thank you Time Team for bringing us this amazing look into our history!

Taking building material from older, unused buildings was pretty much the norm for thousands of years. As is to add on to old buildings and remodel them to changed fashion and demand. It's a pretty recent idea to preserve things in the original state.

London has destroyed absolutely incredible buildings in the last 20 years only to replace them the ugliest examples of architecture on the planet. I didn’t even recognize the city the last time I was there about 5 years ago. Thankfully the UK protects as many great homes in the country as possible.

My first episode of Time Team. High energy, entertaining hunt by a team of historians and archeologists who dig through documents and gardens like a gang of historical Sherlock Holmes'. Lots of good-natured jibing and teasing amongst mates as they devoutly seek out the truth from the past. Happy to recommend this series and channel of which I am a new subscriber. ☺🙋‍♀️ 🇨🇦 LL

There is something called a "grandparent entry certificate ". Or rather, the terminology has changed since the 70s,but the idea is more or less the same. Homework like birth and marriage certificates will be needed, but it is statute policy. There was a trip to Croydon I had to do when I was there to present the documents, the fees were reasonable, and there will be written policy available as public record. Whether that applies to your personal circumstances is something you can find out. Contact the UK consulate in your jurisdiction and ask ,there will be electronic information as well.

I wish there was a modern version of time team..can imagine what they can show with all the newest technology and the use of current 3D programs to re create renderings. It would be amazing!

Hey BootScootinBoo-@47:30 Tony says it was the King`s favorite home for 30 years until it became too old and rickety to maintain and it was demolished. What a shame huh?

Have only been enjoying your Time Team episodes for the couple of years!!! They are all wonderful! I am hooked! I was wondering if Tony had a background in archeology or is he like a sponge and has absorbed all his knowledge for earlier episodes!!!

He's most famous as an actor and a presenter. He was Baldrick in Blackadder in the 1980s. He's not a professional archeologist, but he's gathered an incredible collection of knowledge over his lifetime.

I think he met Mick Aston while taking a course on archaeology (assuming because he was interested in the subject), and when Mick was putting together the show, he suggested Tony be presenter. So Tony has more knowledge than he pretends, but isn't quite the professional. He's just very good at playing "the uninformed/critical viewer" without sounding condescending or fake.

Jonathon was quite the well studied Architectural Expert and ... he was (likely still is) "Easy on the Eyes" aka "a Hottie", a casual reference as said among "the girls", here in the USA. 😁 🇺🇲 ☘️ ☘️ = Irish 🇺🇲 is obvious
