So glad she was able to sprinkle her portraits everywhere to not be forgotten! Females have been silenced and erased in history often, as well as art history. Always told we're not worth as much as we would if we were simply born as a man. Anyway, I guess I look up to Frida Khalo amongst others, as she started and kept on painting during her many physical and marital misfortunes as an expression of her feelings and true self, and now she is so known and celebrated (after her death, yes, but still). She motivates me to push myself to express myself and be creative even when I'm in pain every day and also when I had to fight for my life 4 years ago 🙌🏻

*1:* There are depictions of Nefertiti and Queen Nefertari in this video, even though this has nothing to do with them. *2:* According to Dr. Kara Cooney's book, she assumed the role of Egypt's pharaoh after 7 years of regency in order to protect herself- and her half-nephew/stepson- from other pretenders to the throne. *3:* Thutmose II married Hatshepsut in order to legitimize his ascension to the throne since he, unlike Hatshepsut, wasn't born to the Great Royal Wife of Thutmose/Djehutymes I. *4:* Hatshepsut allowed Thutmose III to live- something a usurper would *never* do. Moreover, she appointed him as the Commander of Egypt's army- and he made no effort to initiate a rebellion against her. If either of the two pharaohs felt any ill will towards each other, they wouldn't have done all this or rule together. *5:* It wasn't until the latter years of Thutmose III's reign that Hatshepsut's name was beginning to be erased. Had Thutmose III harboured grudges against her, he wouldn't have waited so long. It is possible that his son, Amenhotep II, ordered that her name be removed from all historical records so as to strengthen his claim to the throne as he was neither Thutmose III's first-born son nor the son of him and his Great Royal Wife.

I think that Hatshepsut was one of the most clever, bright, cunning and resolute women. I admire her for being so stubborn and tactiful. As for other worth mentiong female rulers Elizabeth I Tudor deserves to be remembered. She led her country through hard times and made the lives of her servants and citizens better:)

Pharaoh Hatshepsut's story reminds me of Empress Wu Zetian of Tang China and Queen Chamathewi of Haripunchai (ancient Mon kingdom located in modern Thailand). They were all successful rulers of their places and time. They were all female "Kings." The other personal favorite female historical figure is Jeanne d'Arc. No need to put up description on this one. On a fun note, the other personal favorite, but FICTIONAL, female figure is Artoria Pendragon, the female version of King Arthur, imagined and produced by Japan. Heh...heh... ^^

They weren’t so much pretending as filling a religious/ political need. We some times think of pharaoh as king. But pharaoh was the living embodiment of Isis and Osiris. Both male and female descendent of the Gods was needed to be pharaoh. Generally the male was in charge, the bull. But when the female took charge she was pseudo-bull. She was legally the male so shown that way. Now in our time it’s impossible to understand the social and religious thinking of long dead Egyptians
