Cripes. How often do you get that level of water over that crossovers? Have you considered some extra pipe capacity if it happens a lot or restricts your access? In saying that...that is one well built crossover to not erode significantly with those flows 👌👌👌

We had nothing all summer in Chittering, and had our first real rain 2 nights ago with 11 mills. Such a treat when the first rains come!

I would really think about putting in a holding pond up stream of that. You could use it for irrigation also. you are being wise with using swales I would put in many more see that flooding out like it was.

A bridge sure would be nice, wouldn't it!?! Mitigating the flood waters is going to be problematic since the water's had so much time to build up speed and volume before it gets to your drive. Even with a bridge, you'd be at serious risk of washing out the foundations with heavy flows like that. This is where Vetiver and other clumping grasses would come in handy. Of course, to really make it work, you have to borrow from Peter Andrews pretty heavily and start at the top of the property where the water's coming in if you're to have any hope of slowing the flow before it hits the drive. One thing I would recommend is to help that poor tree on the downstream side. In every vid, he's sitting alone on the left bank, and it's only a matter of time before the water cuts through that little point of land he's standing on. A clump of Vetiver or Longifolia to act as a bumper and anchor the soil would surely make him happy. And he'd have a buddy to chat with!

Oh my goodness!! We just watched your previous video - you're doing a good job there with the swale - this one is a full-on river!!

THe downstream side of your roadway is a good illustration of your leaky weir concept. Rather than adding the crushed rock, I'd suggest you bring in more large rock that will not wash away. First thing is drop the new rock into the washout holes. Then add additional rock on the roadside of your leaky weir. Then any flood water will drop sediment on your roadway and the road surface will get higher over time. Leave the culvert pipes! They are part of your leaky weir system 😊

@@ROCKPILEOffgridHomestead Your access to such beautiful large rock and the ability to transport and manipulate them into place is a priceless resource. I'd suggest that anyone looking to green arid land by homesteading should ALWAYS have a good source of big rock.

That was a lot of water. Imagine if you could keep it somehow (longer) on your property. Your driveway still exists, so I think you did well. Waterworks upstream will only improve your situation over time.

i wonder if you can utilise keyline patterns from this flooding zone to hydrate the ridges in the area. You have an amazing resource there, lots of water, lots of flow, lots of movement.

Yep, when they don’t have flash flooding they have won. Ideally that creek should flow for days after a big storm at quarter the flow. Though a lot of the water probably comes from off property.

Talking about clump grass to help with erosion... here's a very nice video of an Australian gent who found a bit of Lomandra longifolia doing a masterful job of not giving up! Those are some stout roots, for sure, and after seeing this example, I have no doubt that a hedge of Lomandra would be a good addition to the Rockpile. kzbin.infomLLd37cuVtU

We only got light drizzles here in Perth, so I was surprised when I watched your video last night to see the magnificence of an Autumn storm hit you out yonder. So looking forward to seeing the results of which tips you decide to try out at your place and what the outcomes of that are. I appreciate your honesty.

I watched your previous video last night. Great job guys, you're really getting your creator game on in this space. Whilst I'm only a balcony gardener (in Perth) - at this point - I'm interested in small farming and permaculture (my grandfather was one of the first people in Perth to apply permaculture principles to a suburban home garden here. Lots of people scorned and scoffed at him... until that garden blew up and fed extended families, friends and neighbours. It was a wonderland as a child, particularly when he would show me how certain things like a ripening fig, grew). I'm really enjoying your content, the thought, humour and genuine Aussie-ness you bring to this space. It's a delight and I'm learning stuff all the time that puts the Australian landscape/weather etc into context.

I’d place branches inside of those pipes, allow debris to accumulate on the top side of those pipes and then have the biggest leaky weir on the farm. That’d push the water back up the creek tens of meters and allow the aquiver to become replenished.

I'm no expert but those two pipes are acting like a double barrel shotgun on the creek during rainfall and down stream. I don't know how far up stream you can go but can you not build swales and dams up there to stem the flow?. Just an idea...

LET THE WATER SOAK IN INSTEAD OF GETTING THE DEBRY OUT OF THE WAY OF THE PIPES. SOME SWALES OR LEAKY DAMS HIGHER UP TO SLOW DOWN THE WATER ON A EARLIER / HIGHER LEVEL SHOULD DO THE TRICK AND ALLOWS THE WATERTABEL TO RISE AND STORE WATER FOR A LONGER TIME AND SOAK IN
