Jane & Finch was where I first lived when my family immigrated to Canada. It definitely made me stronger, made me appreciate the diversity, and made me work hard. I lost a few friends to fires, domestic abuse, and gun violence when I was really young (like 8-10 years old) which made me more resilient and unapologetic in achieving my goals. Like any neighbourhood, there is the good and bad.... Jane & Finch is no different!!! Let's stop the stigma, please.

well we know the stigma comes from the mainstream media. those people probably never even been to jane and finch in their life.

@@alextoronto5840So true! I remember getting interviewed by a local news channel walking home from school with my mom, and the reporter was asking us about the gun violence in our area..... Nothing about what I was doing at school or our favourite local restaurants...nope. The media truly creates the toxic narrative.

My first experience arriving from JA to Canada was Jane/Finch. That was in the 70's . So much have changed since then. But I still feels a sense of connectedness and although I no longer lives in the neighborhood..am an advocate for debunking the negative stigmatizism everytime!

I am loving the positive real perspective -- the media is for many their source of education of what is happening the shame is the narrow perspective and not allowing all voices to be heard and seen to provide the real story. Thank you for providing a broader perspective 💕👏

Statistically speaking Jane and Finch has amongst the highest crime rates and is just a shitty area overall. Having a bunch of bias people defending their homes claiming they think its safe and good doesn’t discard the facts. The facts don’t lie. And I’m not saying that there is no crime elsewhere but Jane and Finch is just one of the worst.

What's your point? The man fully said those things are true, but there are other things to the neighbourhood. You don't live here, so stop your noise.

Jane and Finch used to be mainly populated by Italians back in the 60s/70s. It was a different place then. Its been over 40 yrs since I’ve been there and unfortunately it does have a bad reputation but I think thats likely due to the media. You only ever hear about it when there’s a crime. Its nice to see that the people in that community are proud to be there. Im certain there is so much positive there but you just dont hear about it.

Congrats on your amazing show Mr Gonez! Great move! On another note we must refrain from using stereotypical word/s "NOTORIOUS" to describe certain kinds of people or communities, we must use positive genres that is conducive to all of us doing well.

Great job; you do good work and have great presence. I love this cause there is a prevailing misconception about Jane and Finch. While there are issues to be dealt with, most of the people there are just like everywhere else.

Once the Finch LRT is done, property values are gonna go up, which means rent will likely go up too. Is this good or bad? Who knows. But Jane & Finch could possibly become very different in 5-10 years.

I grew up in the mid 70s at 15 tobermory drive which is just east of jane off of finch. Our family was one of the first familys in the building and I never had a problem. Its one big family but if you were and outsider causing trouble then that is where the bad name came from.

Ma hood wasn't far from there, Jane/Wilson. It's a tough neighbourhood, poor neighbourhoods have less opportunities for making an honest dollar, but I have so many awesome memories. I moved out with my family in 1990 to a smaller city. My Aunt and Uncle still live in the area. 💕🤗 whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger, and more tolerant of other culture's and opinions. And I'm white, 5th Gen Canadian, and I'm proud to still call some of the people I met in my neighbourhood as my life long friends. 👍💕

I hope you cover the changes happening in Jane and finch and how it’ll effect my community in positive and negative ways. Appreciate seeing some positive views coming from a member of the CP24 team compared to before 2021. All the things happening here, happens everywhere including downtown Toronto but the only place shown is this area and therefore has led to an extremely bad reputation. Great report!
