You didn’t get anything. Think about suffragettes for a moment and maybe you’ll be closer to understand what we women are thankful for, and why we humbly express that gratitude. I know it can be hard to get for a man who takes his rights for granted as if they weren’t something that was fought for, but I know you can at least try.

OMG FIRST You are AWESOME!. I can not imagine your situation because I am a spoiled American. Being very aware that I am 37 is a bit scary (you still feel 25 inside and 19 was like yesterday),but knowing that I may have helped in this cause even a little is overwhelmingly worthwhile. My own vanity falls away with each tear that wells up from within my soul. I graduated in science and have loved working in the field, but feminism also meant that my desire to stay home with my children while they were young was ok too. It's about freedom for us.

As a 63-year old feminist, I get frustrated with the women of my age, who were in the trenches back in the day, but who seem to be ambivalent about the things we fought for/protested against. I don't know if it's because some of the issues no longer affect them personally, or they've given up. I am hopeful that this younger generation will continue the fight and not accept anything less than they deserve. Your videos always provide encouragement and support for women's issues. I am crying as I listen to your video. It is because I am now 67 and just about everything feels too late in my life. I am glad there are young women who aren't afraid, because being afraid to speak out is very demeaning. I was just told my my SO yesterday that I was NOT to talk to him like I had, because he WOULD NOT be spoken to like that. I'd called him impossible on a situation, but I'd forgotten that I am not allowed to speak to him like that. At least not without repercussions. I have no opinions or valid thoughts. Now, for those of you who say "dump the jerk," I can't, because I don't want to be homeless. It's more complicated than that - because it always is - but I don't have time to write the War and Peace version of why my life is like this. It just is, and I accept it. Please, young women, keep speaking out. Mayim, please keep giving me a place where I can listen to an intelligent woman talk to other women and inspire me to at least free my thoughts for a moment.

When I heard you say you are “old” and then heard your age, I about fell over. You are my daughter’s age. Until I retired 3 years ago, I taught high school for 10 years (elementary special ed before that). My former students are now the age group you are addressing. I still keep in touch with some of them. Out of everything you mention, I think the best of it is their willingness to think they can succeed in areas previously expected/reserved for male success, and go for it. The openness about sexuality, I view as not a good thing, because as a society the sense of privacy about intimacy is nearly gone. Yes it’s good for “shame” to be gone. But intimate activities and intimacy need to be “held sacred” and private (the concept of privacy is also diminishing- NOT a good thing). Anyway, you are NOT old. But in your journey toward my age group, over 65, you will discover that you can and will change to what you say you wish you could be- it’s NOT too late. You’re actually still young. They say age 50 is the “new 30”, so that makes you not even 25 yet!

I am a 49 year old Gma of 2 wonderful men and now have 6 wonderful grand children, 4 of those are girls. I never raised a daughter, though I have helped many moms with their daughters but I did teach my sons through my words and actions that woman are strong confident people who can do everything they put their minds to. This past weekend my oldest grand daughter, who 10, showed me an essay she had to write over summer vacation. I will summarize...I had her Dad at 18 and was divorced and a single Mom by 19. He and her Mom had her shortly after I turned 39. I struggled with the grandmom title and still do, but I love being a Gma. Her essay was about who she wants to be when she grows up. The guidelines encouraged them to describe the values and beliefs they wanted to have as an adult along with the usual what do you want to be. I read this story and was amazed at just how much I have affected her young life! She described wanting to always be honest, to always help others even when you have not much to give, to always love your family, even when it's the family you choose and not the one you were born or adopted into. She described knowing she would always learn or try to learn all she could from mistakes and get back up and try to do better. She went on for a full page describing all the things she wanted for her life and how she wanted to be in this world. The last paragraph brought me to tears, and I never cry in front of anyone. Her simply put last paragraph was that she wanted to be and is striving even at 10 to be all of these things because of her Gma! Because of me!! She reminded me that although I'm not raising her, that she has been an always will be watching my words and actions and that I'm doing ok showing the young ladies in my life to be bold and proud of who they are!

@@sofiabravo1994 She's allowed to be sad and lonely - we all do feel that at least sometimes. Plus, divorce is hard for everyone. But being a feminist isn't directly proportional to being divorced. As a woman 45 years young, I also appreciate the way Mayim gives our generation a new and exciting voice. I would add that women don't have to suffer in silence any more to avoid making others uncomfortable (as previous generations of women did too often). There are more health care options for women than ever before. However young you are (200 years and under), it's important to speak up for yourself and seek help when you need it. I'm glad that today's young women seem quite confident in doing so.

I‘m 16 years old and I‘m still kinda trying to find out who I want to be. Thats difficult, because everyone around me seems to have an opinion on that, but nobody cares what I think. What I want to be. And then I come here, watch this video over and over again and it gives me the feeling to have found someone who really sees the world in the same way I do. To me you are kind of a role model, because you are inspiring and unique and I‘m sure, if you knew me, we‘d get along great. But unfortunately that’s not the case. Anyway... I just wanted to say, I love you Mayim. Thank you, for being here (in my Ipad), whenever I need a smile;)

You are honestly such an inspiration to me. I see some of my personality in you and i was always too scared to show people that side of me but seeing you so comfortable and forward in who you are, gives me confident to be myself 💖

Ty for this, because I as a 37 yr old still til this day sensor my self. But when ever I meet a younger woman I make it a point to say, “I admire you”. And it’s because of all the things you’ve mentioned in this video. Even you Mayim, I admire you & your strength. Ty!

Thank you! For your kind words and for sharing your perspective! Thank you for fighting those fights and going to that protest, because without you and those who fought on your side all the great things you said about us wouldn't be reality! You built the dancefloors we dance on! You set up the stage for us to speak free. You gave aus the vocabulary. Those women figuring it out on the go were and are great teachers and role models for us.

the enthusiasm and grace of this letter and courage to put it out there is wonderfull. it trruelly moves me! i look forward to the day when this love letter is to all people. It truely saddenss me that this message even exists. in its existance it demontrates that lack of equality of all people everywhere. and what saddness me even more, is that in my life i have met so few women actually deserving of this love letter... not everyone is deserving of this, and i have not managed to put those that do in my life. i love this letter and it makes me truely sad.

I appreciate the sentiment “you feel entitled to be respected” so much. I still remember the time that I went 10 steps outside my home to take the trash out, and was catcalled by a truck full of teenage boys driving back. I was furious; I was standing on my own property, in a quiet neighborhood, and having this intrusion during my weekend routine made me feel so violated. But when I stepped back inside, my parents thought I was completely overreacting.
@jonathanfarley20235 жыл бұрын
(1) We don't know what you mean by "catcalled." (2) Unfortunately, men have rights, too, and one of them is that people are allowed to speak in public (outside of falsely shouting fire in a crowded theatre, of course).

I can't believe I made it to my 30ties without knowing how inspiring Mayim Bialik is. Sure, I watched TBBT, but I think it was only last year when I discovered she has a KZbin channel and a webpage. A neuroscientist 🤗, a role model, an actress, seems like a genuinely nice person! How is that even possible?

This made me cry. I'm passionate about pregnancy, labor & delivery, and postpartum. I always felt strange because even as a 12 year old, my response to "What do you want to be when you grow up?" was always, OB/GYN. I'm so facisnated with how our bodies work. I wish I was able to educate people on normal functions of our bodies. I have always been that friend who is there during one of the most vulnerable times of someone's life, bringing life. Although, raising children at a young and financial difficulty has made my dreams a little hazy, I'm hoping that one day I will be able to help people the way I believe I was made for. Because we definitely need reform here in America for sex education and the rights of mothers. This video was inspiring, invigorating and just what I needed. Thank you for your videos and your channel. I admire you and your openness. Love from Idaho ❤

I'm much older than Mayim and this resonated with me. I'm of that group who were trying to figure out all sorts of things...Basically Mayim's mother's group. To see what has evolved into today's women has been everything she said. Thanks for a great video!

I shared this to multiple generations of my family with the following note. Thank you Mayim, for opening great conversations between people who may not otherwise tread into such "deep" territory. "Sharing the latest video from Dr. Mayim Bialik. I know the title says '...To Young Women' but that's only part of the group she's speaking to - she singles them out because she's comparing the youth of today to herself at that age. Also, much of what she discusses is what she calls 'feminism' (because we live in a patriarchal culture) but what I call 'humanism' because it is about the equality and respect of all humans. I think this generational message is important for today's youth, for those of us in her generation and (according to many of the comments) for the older generations, too. We all have, and are entitled to, our own perspectives - but we're also all in this together. I may not agree with every statement of hers, but I thoroughly identify with her perspective of sometimes being confused or upset by the attitudes of the younger generations while also often being amazed, honored and humbled by them. '...and that's okay!' ( : "

👏👏👏 it's important to acknowledge that today's young women are largely who they are because the women who came before them. I love this gracious perspective. Also there's zero shame in being older! There's experience and wisdom and ability to accept who we were, are, and who we will become.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. People who come before you don't have to have any impact on what you do...That's such a woman comment.

At 56, I have been all these things and more since I was 16 and started my independent life journey. Not all older women have these worries. Even now as I enter my 3rd decade wracked with chronic autoimmune illnesses that strip something away from me more times a day, week, month, year than I can count. I choose not to worry. It doesn't help. I am thoughtful and do my homework, but I know this is a fight still worth the struggle. I hope you can embrace these qualities you admire and work them into your life. Wishing you all your best!

Wow! I am 71 years old and I have always felt all 4 of these things. However, I realize that was not common for other women at the time. I did not know it then but looking back I can see it. I took it for granted and assumed that was every woman's experience. Some of the men I encountered in business were taken aback by my attitude and self assurance. I never quite understood why I should be held to a different standard...so I didn't conform or even recognize their supposed authority over me. I see this in my granddaughter and am thankful that she is that kind of woman. I have never felt less than, or inferior, or in anyway dominated by men. I think sometimes, much to their chagrin. It was interesting to hear another woman's perspective. I hope that is a thing of the past and we have moved on. But there will always be people that don't want women to be so independent or self assured. Thanks for sharing.
