I really like this particular scene because Danielle was not rescued by a prince she was able to save herself from the common Thief who was basically her master because her stepmother sold her but she was able to rescue herself without being rescued by a prince so I really like that
@MintyCanRead9 жыл бұрын
Yay! She rescues herself! I loved the rest of the movie but this is what made it top of the list of romantic movies for me. Hollywood, give us more damsels in distress saving themselves, please. I love that Danielle is brave and resourceful while still being allowed to be kind, gentle and at times vulnerable. I feel like most directors think 'strong' women have to be hard and tough-talking at all times, which is so far removed from reality that it makes me cringe when I see it.
@jenniferhiemstra52289 жыл бұрын
Yes please and thank you!! That one of a million reasons why I adore this movie, she's still is quite independent, strong minded, resourceful, super intelligent, etc. but never actually comes off 'tough talking' or rough, she's still considerate of others and still a 'lady' :) I'll be seeing the musical of this soon, and frankly the videos I've already seen kind of make me cringe for the very same reasons you mention...they gave Danielle an ultra feminist 'I don't need a man' slant, heck she even sings a song about it called "who needs love?"...when Danielle wasn't about that AT ALL. She was about ethical and considerate treatment for everyone, no matter their station in life, but all the while knowing to gain this, one must do it themselves to achieve it. Not because she's a woman on a feminist mission...but because it's right for all. She certainly wanted those in her station to be treated ethically and humanely but not the to politically correct detriment of another group. I'm afraid I'm gonna be disappointed in the musical...but there's no guarantee it's going to broadway and I've been following it since it was announced back in about 2008 or so that it was coming to the stage. I've always thought it would great stage material in some fashion.

Yes I agree with you, strong doesn't mean unfriendly or rude, these days all stronger female characters are either sassy or simply mean, they need to make more female leads like Daniel. She was graceful, well educated,and I loved her way with words, the way she talked with her head high, and the confidence in her voice, we don't see this type of character these days.

Sorry. This is gonna be a long comment. Your comment just remind me of my late mom. She was very brave and strong despite her small body. Our father was once a fugitive. He had to leave the country in hurry. He was accused of a crime which he did not commit. Leaving us, our dear mom and us, 8 siblings, 1 was in Jordan, furthering her study. I still how chaos the situation was. Intelligent police kept coming question our family especially our mom. Our mom made a wise decision to bring us back to our father's village, built a home on his little piece of land using her money from the her land that she mortgage (to her only brother which later betrayed her) and raised us there. For more than 3 years, we did not receive any news from our father. With 7 children, our family struggle financially. Without no proper certificate, she could not get a proper job. She did finish high school and got a good result but her dad (our late grandpa) didn't allow her to continue study. So, she could only rely on her knowledge. Offering to become a tutor, babysitting, asking restaurants and schools' kitchen to allow her put the snacks that she made for selling, sewing clothes, working at school kitchen, selling ointment and herbs. Yup, she was smart and excellent at multiple job. She was great at networking and being in social situation. She is respected by the community even until now after years of her passing. She was very kind and gentle. She never had ill intention. There were many times, a refugee came to our house brought many items for selling. Our mom even invited her into our house, treat her kindly, serve her cold drink and some biscuits while she look for item or goods that probably need. So is towards other seller. If she could not buy, she refuse them kindly and apologize for not being able to help. As far as I remember, she never said curse words or bad words. When she became sick near the end of her life, many of her friend visited her and provide some help to our family. Even until now, they are still kind to our family and keep reminisce of our late mom and how well her kids turn out to be. Sometimes, i think that she was perfect. Seem like never rest and had a huge amount of energy. Had she ever felt tired, sad, angry or perhaps display some feelings? Sometimes, i hope that she can share more of her feeling to us. It was very hard to read her face to guess her emotion. She would always be my definition of a strong woman and a human. Resilient, gentle and kind-hearted. Not all of our siblings were excellent academically and financially, but we all have a good behaviour. Thanks to our mom who educated us how to treat people respectfully and kindly.

Yes. THIS. 1000%. That’s the element of it which makes it so perfect. You can tell it’s the overwhelming final realisation after years of abuse, someone being kind and loving to you and making you feel safe, she’s finally able to accept that all the horrid things done to her were not her fault and yes she didn’t deserve to be treated that way. After years of being made to think she did and bearing the guilt and torturing herself day in and day out that she isn’t trying hard enough or being good enough to be worthy of their love. She’s finally able to accept that she was never wrong. Her tears are the tears of someone finally being told they can be free of punishing themselves and trying to be good to fix the faults of others. That subtle human nuance is so movingly conveyed, it makes the scene all the more moving.

I love how she does not leap into his arms immediately because she had the sense to do so. Just because the Prince was in love with her did not mean everything was already fun and dandy. He still had to convince her that his royalty meant nothing to him. You can see how happy she already felt when he said her name and when he showed her the shoe. But still, she was in her senses not to leap into his arms then. She still knows that she’s a commoner and he is the crown prince. She was not a moron was my point.
@lpycb423 жыл бұрын
She wasn’t a commoner lol. She was actually a lady, so their marriage would be legit.
@123anythin3 жыл бұрын
@@lpycb42 she was a commoner. Her father was a “lord of the manor” which then meant an untitled/unranked property and landowner. Hence her joy and excitement welcoming titled nobility into her family when her father remarries to the Baroness. When meeting Henry, she uses her mother’s name, Nicole de Lancret, under a false title “Comtesse/Countess” which her mother never was. However, using this title was the only way she would be able to save Maurice. If she were a lady or the daughter of nobility, she definitely would not have been in the predicament she was throughout the movie, because laws in France since the Middle Ages protected the aristocracy from servitude and debt.

I was glad she didn't leap into his arms frankly i was so angry he rejected her at the ball only thinking about himself, meanwhile not thinking about what punishment awaits her or how her stepmother turned her into a servant from abuse and then goes to get married to a spanish princess?! Not to mention she almost got molested by that psycho. All she lied about was her name because she was always a lady even though people tried to take that from her. He was only thinking of himself and thanks to her she helped to see the bigger picture. "The people are the legs you stand on, that position deserves respect" he even admitted she has more passion then him who "had everything" but still wasn't happy. This scene is so effective at pulling my heartstrings because of Danielle’s appearance. She’s all dirty and dressed very commonly. This point is emphasized when Henry takes off her work-worn shoe revealing the plain gray stocking and then slides the exquisite glass slipper onto her foot. And when she clasps her blackened hands to her dirty face and sobs. Maybe it’s because we all fantasize about being rescued at our lowest points by someone who unconditionally accepts us. I recognize that she is very pretty which helps but still. Also knowing how Danielle has been worked hard most of her life, to see her being offered the world when she’s all tattered and lowly is so satisfying.

What I love about this scene is how incredibly real it is, from both their points of view and the resolve to their love story. The emotions in this scene are so believable from Henry's attempts to get her forgiveness and understanding and Danielles question as to why a man who says she was 'just like the girls who were after him for his station' comes for her. The disbelief and joy that he is proposing, the happiness the he is finally able to see her as Danielle the peasant and not the Countess Nicole. Both these characters had their moments but in the end the love never really died not for Danielle who was publicly humiliated, sure Henry needed to be knocked a few times before he realizes that she was true to him from the beginning and how he never really stopped loving her.
@rowanaforrest97923 жыл бұрын
What Henry will soon find out is that while Danielle is a commoner, she is the daughter of a landowner and should have been raised as a lady of the house. It was only her stepmother's jealousy, bitterness, and meanness that relegated Danielle to servant status. Commoners who owned land were a definite step above those who didn't own land.

I know everyone goes on and on about Henry’s sweet purpose. But I just cried my eyes out when Henry called Danielle and not her mother’s name. It was like Danielle still felt like half of herself was being seen by Henry. And it must have been hard pretending to be HALF of who you are. And let’s not forget Danielle had no idea how her mom reacts around her father. She never experienced what her parents behaved like when they were in love. The only mother figure never showed her any ounce of how to be affectionate towards someone. So, Danielle was basically winging it the whole time. And I love that, when we think of Cinderella she has never sourced to violence, worked hard, kind towards everyone she meets, and courageously throughout the hard times. And lots of girls think they have to like that to be noticed. And the truth is you don’t. Danielle is more human because she showed us she gets angry and yes she has a sense to put her foot down and say no. That is why I love this movie more than all the other remakes they did. Because nothing comes more human more realistic and reliable than this.
@karicewillis10 ай бұрын
Almost everything you said was spot on, 😀 but Danielle did resort to violence at least twice. Punching Marguerite in the face, giving her a black eye for mentioning her dead Mother. And pulling the sword of Pierre so he'd let her go. Both of these were totally justified, but violent. 💡

Can't believe just watched this in 2017. So impressed with the storyline and all. No wonder the new Walt Disney version put me asleep. It's not a sin to put a twist in a fairytale as they also did in Maleficent. Well done.

This is my favorite part of this movie! I wish I had that type of relationship. To tell the truth I've never had one before.
