Just a quick observation for those who have never spent more than a few days in Malaysia: by Kuala Lumpur’s standards, this is not by any means a luxury apartment. This a typical modern medium class condominium in Kuala Lumpur. This could be considered a luxury condo in another country and city but never in Kuala Lumpur. Also, if you are paying $1,470/month for an AIRBNB flat in Kuala Lumpur, it clearly is not for a luxury apartment. It’s a basic apartment for KL standards. Anyhow, this video is useful as much as it shows us how much one can pay to stay at an average AIRBNB accommodation in KL.

Wow….have commented on your videos before…great content keep up the good work. We left the UK 10 years ago to live and work in New Zealand with the plan to retire early and travel.we have just retired now and booked up the first 6 months travel before we decide where to go after that. Funny thing is we have a month in KL booked for June this year and after watching your video we looked to see where we are staying….and its the same place…we only have a 1 bed apartment but got the month for about 750GBP…which we though was great. Even happier now we have seen your video cos if it good enough for you…then its good enough for us. Keep up the good work…who knows we may catch up with you somewhere on our travels

What a great tour… and apartment! I just checked Numbeo to compare KL to Guadalajara and KL is more affordable! Considering Guadalajara is over 200% less expensive than Charleston, South Carolina in the US (where I spent New Year’s Eve), you’re in quite a gem of a location!

Very nice place Neil. I think the best part is the huge windows and that spectacular view. The amenities are great. It's also nice to have those eating places and convenience stores so close by when you aren't keen on being out and about. Despite the higher cost, I would say you made a good choice.

The wife & I are currently spending 5 days in the Robertson [South Tower]. Just a single airbnb room is costing us £35/day. Everything is virtually identical to your clip. You didn't mention the location [Bukit Bintang] during the clip. It has 3 train stations within 11-14mins walking distance. So getting around is pretty easy if you like a short walk in the heat. Nice accommodation 👍

Great apartment and love the pools. Amazing views! The price seems fine. We have budgeted 2 to 3.5 K for apartment living when we sell our house. I don’t think the heat,humidity without an ocean would work for us. There is also the diet challenges. Enjoy your stay.

KL always rain, and most places and public transportation are fully air conditioned, don't worry much about heat and humidity 😊 But for outdoor recreation, it's best to do so before 9:30-10 am as that's when the heat kicks in when the sun is rising, same with the afternoon, it's after 5:30pm 😊

I stayed in the south tower when I visited KL last Nov. Hence why it looked so familiar at the beginning when you introduced the row of shops haha... The Robertson's seems like it caters mostly to tourists and short term stays. So it can kind of feel overly busy with many people coming and going. Otherwise, I enjoyed the views and convenient location between Bukit Bintang and Pudu

Hence why everything is fully air-conditioned even public transportation, and malls are large with indoor attractions since that's where the locals spend their hot days and lunch hours lol And there's also plenty of parks with water features and river/waterfall recreational areas. Some expats would just joins in the local groups for their hiking and jungle/river trekking in the weekends.

I believe its distance to klcc is just under 2 miles, so it's a bit of a long walk for malaysia's climate, either rainy or too hot for westerners, and I always advise to better be prepared with the small (telescopic) umbrella that you can stash inside your bag. However, if you walk, there are also many other places you can stop along the way, so you can cover those places at the same time, basically they are big shopping malls, but they can have their uniqueness for you to drop in to have a look as well instead of giving them a miss. For eg the nearest along the way is _berjaya times square_ which houses an indoor theme park apart from the more affordable clothing shops. Cross the road and there's _sungei wang plaza_ also with its affordable clothing shops, and _low yat plaza_ where locals go for computers and phones thingy. From the 2nd floor of _sungei wang plaza_ you can use the overhead pedestrian crossing to go to _lot 10_ and also to witness the big and busy crossing of _jalan bukit bintang_ and _jalan sultan ismail_ akin to the shibuya crossing in tokyo. Once you get out of _lot 10_ to the other side then you can go to _fahrenheit_ as well as _starhill_ and from there cross the bustling _jalan bukit bintang_ to the popular _pavilion_ and by that point you should be halfway to klcc already. For malaysians, all these shopping malls also serve as refuge from the heat or rain 😊

On i-property these 2 bedroom fully furnished units at The Robertson are offered for a mere 2.2 to 2.6k Rm, so I am afraid you didn’t get yourself a very good deal, sorry to say. But I do understand your host being friendly, he should. The thing is, a lot of (western) newcomers to Kuala Lumpur are easily impressed with skyscraper views and common condo facilities such as pools and gyms, as this doesnt exist in Europe. But once you know the dynamics here in Kuala Lumpur, you find out that you can either get a lot more for your money or you can save a lot more if you don’t buy the story of the hosts. My suggestion when a newcomer: talk to expats that have lived here for a longer time and get them to get you into contact with proper agents, not those who sell themselves as property agents, but are just out to make money on you. Sorry for being so direct, but I’ve seen it too many times.

Reminder: there's a different rate for each month of the year depending on the supply & demand. That's true for KL, Paris, or Los Angeles. Keep that in mind when you travel.
@EGO0808
@EGO0808 2 жыл бұрын
@@avid580 fair enough, but with all due respect, there is far more supply than demand. This price is way too high for this condo. At the same period / time of the year you cN for example stay at the tropicana residences at jalan ampang at KLCC, a far more high end residence and location is smack on opposite the twin towers. Also other serviced residences around klcc are in the same price range. Hence my suggestion: don’t rent via air b&b and get conned like this, get the insights from the expats that actually live here and ask them for advice. There are tons of facebook groups for expats in KL, that are very helpful and resourceful.
@nutzhazel

@@EGO0808 Yeah, even for locals who works in KL, they usually have to go through experience rather than fully trusting the online info when it comes to renting. I switched apartments/house for 10 times in just 5 years trying to find the right apartment that's closer to my work place. Had to live and know the areas, the roads, the traffics, the shortcuts, the facilities well before I made a new apartment moves. Hence the constant moves lol

Public transportation is cheap and good in KL, even renting cars or bike is cheaper, as a local, I wouldn't recommend staying near the city centre/twin tower as the whole of Klang Valley area has its own charm. Cities like Shah Alam/Cyberjaya/Damansara/Sunway/Puchong or Petaling Jaya for instance. I used to live in Damansara near Ikea/One Utama malls in Petaling Jaya. Same amenities with this place but at half price. Only went to KL when needed and spend my weekends doing outdoor recreations of mountain hiking/waterfall and jungle trekking or just doing food hunting around towns in Selangor. There's several expats and tourist that usually joined our trip, and we did the carpool system where we will pick them up at their LRT station before grouping up for the convoys to our destination. And whenever we dine together, we just order whatever anyone wants to eat, then divide the amount equally between everyone, it's cheaper that way. Sometimes we had 50-70 people per trip, it was fun 😊

Enjoyed your video but as I continue to comment that Airbnb is destroying the market. The rental apartment is way too much money and really will not compare to US prices because this is not comparable. For the most part salaries in the US vary and at times come close to corresponding with local rents but salaries overseas do not.
