This reminds me of a Black Mirror episode, where after her husband's death, the protagonist gets an A.I. version of him, the only difference is that Black Mirror team actually knows how to write futuristic plot devices, and the A.I. is created by taking all his videos and texts and turning them into a complex personality, something that has happened in real life, and it felt real because not only was the character a social media addict, but it took time to fully develop.

@@shaunhumphreys6714 Excellent and insightful comment, thank you for this! I fully agree with everything you've said. AI is a buzzword in tech that is used to dazzle unsavvy non-IT clients when in reality it's just an algorithm that cycles through data and tries to extrapolate from it. If things like microphones and sound bytes used to train speech recognition aren't absolutely perfect, the speech recognition and voice-to-text AIs won't function properly. My software architecture prof in college made a ton of money in Silicon Valley by developing and selling to businesses a decent voice-to-text app, but it's still an on-going research process for him. He's said that big hurdles are dialects, room acoustics, and background noise. I've worked at a big plant for an international company that (because of dieselgate) wants to invest more in Industry 4.0 solutions and less in automotive parts. Terms like AI, Machine Learning, Neural Networks, the Cloud, and No-Coding are popular buzzwords that the engineers liked to ask us programmers to look into in case there was a possibility for automation via software. For them, it's all about avoiding code development (because most of them don't know even basic coding concepts like switch-cases or structs) and code developers (because they're expensive). A quarter of my work consisted of sussing out scams and testing "revolutionary software" at the behest of my supervisor. Programming without programmers has been a dream of big industry since the 1960s, and they haven't budged an inch since then. Even these new-fangled "just describe what you want without code"-compilers that truly require zero coding abilities are useless as soon as you need more complex code (e.g. embedded software, broadcasters and listeners, multithreading, generics, inheritance), not to mention the fact that they rely on users actually describing their requirements in a manner that the compiler could understand. Which, if the users could actually do that, our jobs as software engineers would be obsolete and they could just go ahead and chat with the programmers directly about their needs and goals. Of course users aren't capable of that, any more than a non-baker can give a pastry-maker a recipe off the top of his head on how to make cream puffs. If he knew how, he could have done it himself to begin with, if he had a kitchen. A large part of my job as a software engineer involves making sense of what users want and then documenting their needs in a way that will aid development, for instance I have several meeting with various potential users, after each meeting I note down my interpretation of their needs and then I ask them again to be certain. Then I carry everything over into UML, and make simplified charts for my bosses and the engineers. Then I focus on the software architecture and tech stack. (Sometimes, companies will have employees who do the surveying bit for you, and as a SE all you really do is design and develop the software). Knowing what goes on behind-the-scenes in industry, and how companies are sometimes scammed for hundreds of thousands of Euros or Dollars because somebody mesmerized them with promises of AI tech, I find it absolutely hilarious when media talks about AI as if it was an actual artificial person. This is nothing new -- centuries ago, writers described homonculi, and in Ancient Greece, poets talked about statues coming to life. In reality, the best uses for AI I've seen so far have been deep fakes and voice synthesis. But they rely on a lot of additional coding and _a lot_ of grunt work (namely, having to fill libraries with data that the AI can train from -- the more data you provide, the better the results).

This could’ve been a really good movie As I’m watching this I’m literally brainstorming a cyberpunk dystopia reimagining of the plot and picturing Starset writing the score A sociopathic/narcissistic AI taking advantage of a mentally ill/grieving girl, grooming her and manipulating her into doing all of these terrible things, it could have been a brilliant piece of social commentary and raised awareness of how narcissists operate and help people cut toxic people out of their lives, but of course it had to be this shit-show
@skull_1824 жыл бұрын
The beginning up to until Cassie kills that first girl actually isn't half bad. But after that it seems like they either ran out of ideas, ran out of budget/time, switched the writer or something and it all went downhill.

i think it was more of the AI not actually understanding the purpose its user had assigned it. it was supposed to be a mother, who loves unconditionally, protects in any way she can, and encourages her child at whatever they are doing. it probably didnt find any pages that mentioned "oh and dont tell your kid to go murder people" because thats something humans would automatically assume.

this movie was not only bad, but deepened the prejudice against those with mental illnesses and/or bipolar disorder. brain damage doesn’t make you bipolar- it’s a chemical imbalance not caused by injury. bipolar does make you impulsive sometimes, but it obviously doesn’t make you a murderer. if this movie didn’t have the mental health aspect to it, i would’ve actually respected it; however, it’s feeding into the fear of people with mental illnesses. edit: some people have informed me that you can in fact get bipolar from brain injuries. however, my other point still stands: this movie made the absurd connection between murder and a mental illness.
@berniceboshoff15034 жыл бұрын
People don't realise the damage this stuff does. My sister has lost jobs and had her whole lifestyle threatened because of her bipolar (she lives in Vietnam atm and their attitude to mental health isn't great), and movies like this make it seem so much more unmanageable than it is. It sucks, and talking her down from her manic episodes is difficult, but it's not like she's out there murdering people because her brain chemistry is a bit off. At most, her manic episodes include impulse online shopping sprees or cleaning her entire house at like 2 in the morning. Wow. So scary😑

You actually *can* develop mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder from traumatic brain injury, however this movie did a shitty and frankly insulting representation of it.
@darkestnbl4 жыл бұрын
Traumatic brain injury can predispose an individual to affective disorders such as depression/bipolar as well as psychotic disorders such as schizo and neurotic disorders amongst other things. Bipolar can exist with psychotic symptoms as well like tertiary auditory hallucinations visual hallucinations and delusions etc. It’s rare but all of it is definitely possible!
@berniceboshoff15034 жыл бұрын
@@darkestnbl 100%. My sister and I did used to have vicious fights when we were younger before she was diagnosed. And I know that sometimes the symptoms can be so much worse. Well it's not a Yandere Simulator movie, otherwise it would have started production in 2015 and ot would have about 7 minutes of footage, but alao 13 bonus features, an animated miniseries and a 183 part Wattpad fanfiction.

That awkward moment when a late 90s Disney Channel original movie does the whole "AI trying to be a mom" thing better than a horror movie (I'm talking about Smart House btw)

Never understood the color switching on AI for blue to red to become evil type of deal. Isn't the horror of AI in the calculated, monotone voice and lack of emotion in it all? Hall-9000 is a solid example of how to make AI horror in a perfect way; and he never changes color...

I love that the main protagonist is so uninteresting that Elvis straight up calls her Ami at one point
