My thoughts on all four of the main characters: Jammer is brilliant, mostly because Lou is brilliant. While a lot of his characterisation lies in areas which I personally have no experience - for instance, when he mentioned the McRib in a recent episode, I had to look it up because we don’t have it here in the UK - he manages to remain easily understandable and hilarious. Also, his burgeoning friendship with Evan is the best thing in the world. I love Dream so much, specifically because Erika said that she thought about who would be the worst person to get invited to a magical school, and decided on a person who is hugely into fandom. Also, she’s kind of a mirror in which I see myself about five years ago, which is terrifying and fun at the same time. Sam is truly wonderful, and the first time I’ve seen Danielle in anything. The heavy leaning into “just-chatting” livestreams and TikTok - two areas of the internet that are both hotbeds for hilarity and awkward horror - is just the best. I also love the idea that Sam’s wand was originally going to be just a straight-up selfie stick - and I love the final design of it too! Finally, we come to our resident real-life (sorta) sadboy, Evan Kelmp. Brennan is a fantastic DM (obviously), and an equally amazing player! Evan is such a good reflection of the “cursed chosen one” trope, and the interactions between him and Dream are just the best. Of course, although she isn’t one of the main characters, I couldn’t finish this comment without discussing Aabria, who has such a great GM-ing style that I have found myself starving for the next instalment of both this and EXU. Long live the Summer of Aabria!

On Aabria, I just really like how she leans into the "for the viewer" shit with little bits and pieces that the characters don't catch. Fully trusting her players to not abuse that info while leaning into the fact that it is a show. Also the fact that both campaigns are short-form, not really open world campaigns with a pre-planned not-meant-to-be-avoided story gives it a really different feel. I'm deliberately avoiding the word railroading btw, because it carries a much greater implication of bad etiquette on the side of the DM, which obviously isn't what is going on here or ExU. It is basically running a module.
@PoemJunkie3 жыл бұрын
The McRib jokes are so fucking specific, because it has layers. The McRib is famously polarizing between people that love it and hate it. Since it does limited runs, the people that love it go nuts when it’s back on the menu. It’s common joke fodder.

Anyone else come back for these highlights every once in awhile? After watching Fantasy High for the first time I was just blown away by Brennan's performance as a dungeon master that when this first came out I was stoked to see him as a player. It did not disappoint, thank you.

This really is an outstanding series, so short, so sweet, so chaotic but politically charged Brennan as a player brings SO MUCH to the table that I thought he would swallow up everyone else but everyone found the way to give themselves a complete arc and a handful of dope AF moments in a very limited time.
@mitchellsmith7463 жыл бұрын
Lol, saw this episode today and after it was over I was thinking like, well damn, Brennan just made himself the main character of the campaign, mostly because he was so good at injecting his backstory so organically into the story throughout the episode and by the end of the first 2 hours he'd already subverted our expectations and tied his whole formative backstory together
@abj69203 жыл бұрын
@@mitchellsmith746 It's weird to hear about main characters in role playing games but I do get what you mean. I would say that if that happened it's because Evan is literally the only character with some magical background instead of having four characters learning the ropes at the same time and reacting. Like yeah, he gave himself a launchpad for a story whereas everyone else made a character who was about to learn stuff pasively. But I do think that by the end they all flourish in pretty cool ways

@@CassReidIsSomeone Usually with specific focus on the act of eating. It isn't really just a chilling stream. You are not automatically doing a mukbang if you happen to eat while chatting with chat. I don't think it is required for it to be a mukbang, but the more famous examples involve upsetting amounts of food eaten by skinny people, or gourmet food almost too expensive to actually eat. Or like with the cucumber, you can have the ASMR factor of the eating sound, though obviously the cucumber referenced here was basically the hottub streamer tactic of attracting people by being suggestive since sex sells
