Beautiful! The pigment of flower petals is often based on the pH of the soil (pun intended), so if your syrup stayed purple then the flowers likely grew in acidic soil. More blue means more base (aka more alkaline). You can manipulate the color of snowball bush flowers this way by augmenting the soil with acids/bases :)
@annalisalundberg4561
@annalisalundberg4561 3 жыл бұрын
You're right. Maybe also the water pH can influence the result. Hard water, containing more calcium, can turn the infusion more blue. I've noticed that with my hibiscus tra, if I use tap water the first infusion is blue-ish, and it needs a longer infusion to get red, but if I use filtered water it gets red right from the start. pH can truly do some wonderful chromatic tricks 😁

The syrup is basically a litmus paper. When the solution is acidic, it is pink. Basic is blue, and purple is neutral. The same thing happens with purple cabbage. Neat! I didn’t know violets have that property too. Thanks for the video

I made a batch of Violet mead earlier this year... it is a lot of fun. An important note here, that I'm sure is brought up in the referenced videos but always bears repeating. You have to be very careful about where you harvest any sort of wildflower from. Only harvest from sources that you know haven't been sprayed with chemicals (weed killers, pesticides, fertilizers, etc).

Here is a jam recipe I love for anyone to use: Ingredients: 1/4-1/2 cup sugar (depends on how sweet your berries are), 2 cups of berries, 1/4 cup water .In a pan/pot, add the berries in and mash them .Add water and cook over medium heat until soft, crushed, and mixed together well .Once it reaches a simmer, stir occasionally until you add the sugar and mix it in .Reduce the heat to medium-low and constantly stir for 20-25 minutes or until dark and thick .Once ready, scoop it into a jar and let cool for a bit .Store in the fridge or seal it by putting the closed jar fully in boiling water for ten minutes I use blueberries usually but I am pretty sure any berry should work well. Edit: I made some strawberry jam yesterday and it also works

This looks amazing ! I was woundering if you had any recipe or way of how to extract scent from flowers or how to make oils like rose oil? Also is there a right way on how to dry flowers and plants? Thank you so much, I love your videos!
@annalisalundberg4561
@annalisalundberg4561 4 жыл бұрын
An "easy" way to extract scent from flowers is to take some very small glass containers with lid, cut some parchement paper the size of the bottom of the containers, cover them with a tiny layer of a solid oil, like coconut oil, then fill the container in fresh flowers or petals (keep in mind that you have to pick them the moment when their scent is greatest, for example if they were jasmine flowers you need to do that in the evening); fill the container, leave it overnight, then take off the flowers, and repeat as wanted. When the oil will have the intensity of scent you want, scratch it from the parchement paper and put it aside in a smaller container, better if it's a glass one. The technique to distill essential oils from flowers is pretty difficult and rather delicate, but in this way you will be able to create a scented oleolithe (hope I've written it correctly), meaning the essence of the flower trapped in a greasy substance. If you make this charging it with an intention that works accordingly to the energy of the plant, you can create a magical ointment, a simple but quick spell that can be activated whenever you use the oil.

You can make a hydrosol. I took a canning pot, put a brick in the middle and a large bowl on top. Fill bottom of pot, up to brick, with flowers and top up with water. Turn on the pot, med heat, put on the lid but upside down, fill with ice. As the water boils the steam condenses on the lid and falls into the bowl. Turn off before all the water is gone, but now you have a scented water! You tube for more recipes

Thank you! Here in Alaska it is rose season. I will be making this with roses instead of violets. Thank you for the tips and recipe :)

PS this worked GREAT with roses. The added lemon juice at the end really amplified the rose flavor and color. It tastes sooooo good in tea

I'm planning on using this recipe for making azalea syrup with my azalea flowers in the back! Azalea does represent home and as someone who enjoys homey vibes and I hope it'll be great to mix in with some tea and sit back and relax either in my house or outside with all the nature!

Love it! Unfortunately violet season has already passed here in my garden but I know for sure what I'm doing next spring. I'm already thinking about what cocktails I could mix this into! 🤣

The Garden Witch there’s a drink called “purple rain” after the prince song. I think it would fit well in that.

I have yet to meet a floral lemon drop I did not like. Violet drop. Rose, lilac, lavender, dandelion, geranium...

Thanks for this, the violets in my yard are just starting to pop! We never use insecticide so everything in my yard is edible. I’m going to halve this recipe and make some up for making violet soda! Great inspiration, I love your content!
