My bluejays rotate peanuts in their beaks, like they’re judging a fine cigar. If the shells are roasted too dark, they will literally pick them up and drop them over the railing on the porch while I watch. It’s so funny. They are peanut connoisseurs. 🥜🐦

Just like 99.99% of birds, it seems to be more interested in the magpie not taking a nut than itself taking one as well. My balcony overlooks a body of water called the Shadwell basin. we have coots, moorhens, Canada and Egyptian geese, swans etc etc. They're always hellbent on chasing the others away from the food I give them than enjoying it themselves. The male mallards go chasing other male mallards in circles whilst not even taking a single bite themselves. Absurd creatures.

But the coots and mallards even do it amongst themselves. I feed them daily and they come to the edge the moment they see me. When I throw the nuts etc in the water, coots come running from all directions. And yet within 10 seconds, two coots turn on everyone else to keep them out of their territory. A huge chasing game ensues resulting in the other birds being attracted and them swooping in to eat the food instead 😂The swans are the biggest assholes. They go chasing the Canada geese every when they're 30 meters away. And don't even get me started on the seagulls...!@@whatTFisThis

did you read what I wrote? they don't guard sh*t. They just concentrate on driving away the other birds, and in turn don't eat the food themselves. when the coots are fighting, the mallards just do a circular turn and come for the food whilst the coot are fighting. And then a lone male mallard turns up which takes all of the attention of the other male mallard and they end up chasing one another. splash splash ensues which attracts the seagulls, and amongst the mayhem the seagulls devour everything.@@mistydayremainsofthejudgment

I get rooks, magpies, and jackdaws in my garden. The rooks and Jackdaws have first dibs on the warm meal worms (husband soaks them in hot water for 5 minutes before breakfast time). Then when the magpies turn up, it's time for the others to leave. It was 1 rook originally. Then he turned up one day with his woman. A week later, 4 showed up. Then 10. Then one day, came out and there were 16 rooks in the tree on the hill above my house, waiting. Must have about 30 corvids visit throughout the day now. Costing me a fortune in suet and mealworms. I also have bluetits, coaltits, blackbirds, robins, and the loudest, the tiny house sparrow. I go through 20 kilos of suet every 2 weeks. And about a kilo of mealworms every week.

Many animals clearly atleast attempt to communicate what they want, but I wonder if, like humans, they get frustrated at another animals stupidity when they don't understand something that they understand. If so, I think they might be way more like us than we thought. Scientists get in on that!

@VineFinn, It is. Birds communicate with each other, within their own kind. Its scientifically believed, that bird talk ranges somewhere below whales & dolphins. But what do we really know? The subsonic elephant talk that reaches several miles. We have no clue. Magpies even sound a bit like dolphins.
@youtubepaidformydivorce

@@VineFynn this has been proven false in countless field studies. they've found many species of animal which were capable of higher speech, the problems is the language barrier between man and beast. please do more research before talking about things you don't know. you can do better, i believe it
@beansworth5694
@beansworth5694 11 ай бұрын
@@VineFynn Well, there are different sorts of communication other than the pseudo-explicit thing we humans try to do with sentence construction. Animals communicate, the actual self-referential complexity is just much lower. What reactions one shows when observed by an other is communication. We speak with our bodies, we're expressive like that, but sometimes the expressions aren't registered as intended or expected. Animals may not generally speaking utilize language, but this does not imply a lack of communication. That'd be a very anthropomorphic lens to view relationships that wouldn't even fully encompass what we humans get up to.

my parents also like to put some cake crumb on the balcony. of all the birds dropping by, magpies are the most nice that they usually left some for other birds like some waiting in line sparrows. and there're some bulbuls will take all the crumbs when they come. they will also drive any nearby sparrows away. I'd been observed for several days and found out that the magpies never showed up at the same time with the bulbuls, clever.

Birds (Corvids) intelligence is super underrated. I fed my Scrub Jays mealworms (almost got them to hand feed) and after watching them, some of the time they give the worm a quick chomp, dig a hole and put a leaf over it. I came back a few hours later and the worm was gone!

My magpies do that; dig a quick hole, stuff the best treat in there to hide it from the rest, and go back to the feeding area. Then when they leave, they dig up their hidden snack and fly off with it. I've seen them pulling the tails on the rats and chase off the squirrels, too. Like a game... See the rat, sneak up to it, yank!, fly up in amusement when the rat retaliates. Hilarious. One of them likes to shout down at my neighbour's cat if she makes the mistake of passing through. It yells from the bird bath, which is only about 3 feet high. Cat just slinks away in shame 😂

I'm surprised that they are doing this because both Bluejays and magpies belong to the same family called the crow family which obviously also includes crows and it really makes sense that they would negotiate because both magpies and Bluejays are very intelligent birds because the crow family is home to very intelligent birds
