Hello Delos. It's great that you show people that there is a lot to maintaining a sailboat, and that maintenance is not replacing things that have broken. I applaud you for all of the proactive maintenance you are doing to prepare for more offshore adventures. A tip: have you used FSR for removing rust and other stains (the beard) from your fiberglass. It is a blue gel that you just rub on and then rinse off. Super quick and easy. Keep on sailing!

Before dunking our kids in the pool, we were taught to blow air on their faces. It’s a mammalian response to breath in, after they breathed in, we would dunk them so they had no option in intake air as their lungs were full. It worked well for us. Can’t say they liked it much but they love water now, and it got us through that vital training…. Just thought I’d share our experience, getting kids to love water.
@Lars1963Piil3 жыл бұрын
Yes, we were taught that as well 26 years ago in DK when our 1.born went babyswimming. The air blow also makes them block out the water - instinct i guess, i'm too old to remember myself 😂
@ceruleanfish67033 жыл бұрын
I 2nd that blow on face technique. Also good on you for coping with the tears. As humans there are things that feel strange and scare us, fear of the unknown. Better tears now and getting used to going underwater now. I don't know if it's a different name but we learned dead man's float very early. It's amazing how little energy it takes to be calm and feel your lungs bouancy in the water. Go rigid n panic and it doesn't work as well. Bests to all waterproofing their kids~ Mines 20yrs old and loves to swim still!

I am amazed at the attention to detail in keeping all of your systems up and running. Thank you! For the record, forget the posh canals of Boca, and come to Turkey Creek on the Caloosahatchee River. We are a community of boaters (mostly sailors and those who've circumnavigated) and we have all the tools, resources, dock space and a machine shop available to work and grind to your heart's content! Another youtuber has left their boat to our care for hurricane season. I know you are now in Panama and headed to points beyond, but if you ever come back up the Gulf of Mexico, turn in at Big Carlos Pass in Ft. Myers and head upriver. When ever I teach a baby to swim and I think they are ready for me to dunk them, I blow lightly on their face just before the dunk. This causes them to breathe in and hold their breath. I only ever had to do this the first 4-5 times before they figured out they need to hold their breath before the dunk has already happened. I know a lot of people say this isn't required, as there is a natural instinct to hold your breath underwater. That is true, it's just the way I have always done it with my nephew's. They seemed to get a hang of the breath hold quicker. Just some friendly info, I am happy you guys are teaching her early in life. My parents did and I have continue on the tradition. The ocean has always been a huge part of our lives.

Hi Brian! I’m getting flashbacks - I installed the same system on my boat last summer and it took me days of miserable boat yoga. Yesterday, I spent a couple of hours installing a Raymarine chartplotter. It’s great when you finish it, but I found the installation process, especially in the tight spaces in a 30’ boat like mine, pretty miserable. I took my kids out for a nice sail today - blue skies, small waves, and 18 knot winds, it was heck of a nice day. Oh, don’t worry about tears when teaching Sierra to swim - my eldest screamed for a solid hour the first time my wife took him to a “Mommy and Me” swim class. He’s 19 years old now, 6’3” and swims like a seal. All my best, Lance H and the family in Oakville, Canada. S/V Great Escape

WD-40 takes off old stickers, it might remove the oxidation from the paint as well. I live in Boca. The neighbors in the HMOs will tolerate a lot, but the second they see the laundry, they start acting very funky. Unfortunately, there is probably no dock space without an HMO attached to it. I taught my step son to swim, because he would not go to swimming lessons. All I did was to teach him to blow bubbles, bob in the water, and then to relax while exhaling underwater and inhaling above the water. He is the best swimmer in the family. Another important thing I learned is: all air is breathable, whether it is 0.2mm above the water or 1,000 meters above the water. And a little water in the mouth is not bad, just spit it out.

@@davidkettell6236 Because there's always people that have no respect for their neighbors & nor see no reason they can't have a property that looks like a junkyard which devalues other people's property. If people move into an association area, they know the rules & restrictions, if they don't like them, then move someplace else. It's really a simple concept.
