Yup, always watch til the end before commenting. Like we said, Step 217 was the most accurate portrayal of what our daily life actually looks like. In order to do that without a full camera crew, we had to creatively stage in and plan how we were going to film it. Don't worry, like we said, they won't all be like this. But with your logic, any time a camera is on, it can be seen as "fake" since the decision to turn the camera on has already halted "reality". As creators, we do the best we can to accurately portray what our lives are like and the adventure we go on. But at the end of the day, you're still only seeing a 15 min highlight or 1% of what actually happened that week. Everyone watching is entitled to their own opinion, and that is ok, but it won't stop us from continuing to make the videos we enjoy making, however we decide to make them.

Whenever I watch your films I say in my mind " that shot took a lot of time they had to go put the camera there then go back to where they were going to leave from then come towards the camera, then pick up the camera and go back to the boat. And I knew that's how you were doing it that you didn't have extra people. What an excellent job you did in this film. I enjoyed it so so much! I'm a widow and I live by myself and it's interesting to see how two people talk to each other. I've been a little for 13 years and I'm going what could you possibly say all day long? What an interesting video. I spent 36 years working in TV, 25 of them as an editor. 20 years ago I was teaching classes in Post-production to BBC trainee directors, and I could have used this video just on its own as an intro! You did an excellent job on Step 217. I had already guessed how you did most of it, but I didn't know about the "Handheld" plug-in. Final-Cut appeared around the time I left the industry, so I never did get to use it. Being able to shoot in 2K or 4K gives you the latitude to do something like that. Back in the pre-HD days the loss of resolution would have made it really noticeable. Kika is a really professional editor! I liked your discussion about the sound FX. That was one of my favorite jobs, though I usually worked with a dubbing editor/mixer. My favorite story is when I worked on a film about rhino conservation in Zimbabwe. The shot was a very long shot with a 600mm lens of a pair of rhinos about a mile away. The only sound we had was wind. We made a "rhino footsteps" sound effect from scratch. One element was bags of flour being dropped! Keep safe.

This is basically a cut & paste from E217: This was a phenomenal episode! Both the multiple camera work and editing were top notch, and the sound editing was superb. You two have come so far along that I think it is the best sailing centered programming on KZbin, perhaps in all genres. You are naval architects and videographers. This was a pleasure to watch.

I think the two of you, working together, are like child protegees. You figure out complicated problems before the typical "kid" would. You're humble about it because you don't realize you've got talents that most others don't. The way you do your regular videos impresses me. And your "A day in the Life" video was even cooler. I think their major relationship advice is being each other's best friend all the time. And never saying stuff without thinking about it first. The movie was very well made and I want to say thank you for showing some of your daily life as it actually happens. The video production over the last two years with the documentaries and the behind the scenes has been top-notch! Production quality, audio, music choice, edits, very well done. I do wish that some of the DIY videos over the last few years had as much detail and information in them as it would have answered some burning questions about a few projects, but the way they were done is very good! One of the biggest items that keep me clicking next is the quality of these videos. Your enthusiasm, playfulness, information, and just glimpses into sailing life are what keeps me and the almost 200k viewers coming back each week. I truly know that it is hard work to make these, at least 6 hours a day sometimes for me to edit, music choice, production, starting and stopping filming, fixing glitches... I can truly understand and appreciate all the work that went into this project. The “planning” you mention - what we call storyboarding - was a huge element. And, you mastered the one key to photography and video - the lighting, which can be so tricky. Lastly, having the forethought to reshoot certain clips, and capture your own audio sound bites was brilliant. Toughest project we had in school was to create, shoot, edit, and produce a short story over multiple days, with a single camera and no lav mics. Wardrobe, props, settings, placements, even coffee cups become so huge, with such an undertaking. Hats off to you for a job well done. A masterful edit, made possible by taking the time to storyboard every detail - including camera angles. There’s a popular term we live by (photography and video) called “shoot for the edit”. When you begin a project by considering how you’ll edit, it truly influences how and what you shoot, which makes Kika’s job so much easier. Quality in ... quality out. Bravo!

Awesome follow up. As I watched the original video, I recognized early on that you guys were doing something special. And I could tell a TON of effort went into producing that simple day-in-the-life episode (and yes, I did make a mental note of the single foot stomp GoPro shot when I first saw it). Gotta say, I also especially enjoyed the simple intro with the drone overhead of UMA contrasted by the black waters, very slowly passing by with the title simply fading into the scene. I am floored! Not only did you shoot a stunning short film, but you shot the making of at the same time. So the scene that had me convinced there was a 3rd person was towards the beginning when Kika in laying on the settee. And I find myself wanting you not to work so hard. My whole question was did you either have crew or was in filmed in more than one day, as it was presented. So you answered perfectly. Totally! Like we said, we were on anchor for 3 weeks before making this video....and this is the only video we made while anchored there for almost a month. The other time was just spent enjoying spring and the end of a long, cold winter and excitement for our summer plans. That's the thing, when we choose to relax and take a break, no one knows about it, because it's never filmed or edited.

Absolutely astounding. The first few minutes of 217 were so obviously next-level in their composition, I started looking for the man behind the curtain, and did manage to pick out a few hints -- chiefly, the handheld plugin doesn't do parallax shift, which gives it right away. But then watching 218 revealed so much more that I hadn't picked up on, I had to go rewatch 217 to appreciate it all! I use a lot of Victron hardware and found your channel through their blog, but then I had to go back and binge-watch from the beginning. I've learned more than I ever expected, about international travel and visas, glass-epoxy composites, cinematography and editing...What an amazing journey, thank you so much for bringing us along! I guess it's time to go join the Patreon. :)

I just loved it, just as I loved the episode where you edited the sounds of the sea in various ways and the 360 ​​'camera on the crossing. The video work you guys do is always fantastic, it's definitely a factor that drew me in to your channel. You guys are way better with video than I am (I do still photography mostly) but just a couple things that came to mind. The Osmo Pocket might be a good investment. It is *incredible*. The quality of the video is excellent, you can select people or object and track them, the gimbal works great, etc. The one accessory I suggest is a mount to hold your phone and the Osmo together when you want a bigger screen to work on. I shoot off a tripod almost all the time and also shoot a lot of panoramas, so I know a thing or two about tripods. 🤣. That aluminum one you have is crazy heavy to carry around for sure. The good thing about that is that it's stable on a rocking boat or in a lot of wind - important especially if you're not standing with it to keep it from tipping. Carbon fiber tripods are expensive, but they are excellent. Most have a hook you can hang your bag from to add weight/stability when needed. Just be careful if you do buy a new one...smaller and lighter is definitely not always better. The ball head you have on your tripod is convenient and quick to set up but a 3 way head or fluid head would be better to allow you to pan. You can get three way heads that are cheapish and light, fluid I'm not sure about. Im always happy to ramble on boringly about tripods so if you ever have questions just ask. 👍 Great work on your last video. So many tricks I did not notice at all. I did notice the missing JBL on the silks part though! 🙃
