A mathematician and an artist? I like to believe us that what we do in mathematics, physics, and many other fields are kinda of state-of-art, too. After all, the beauty is staggering if you see what we see :)

lovely perspective... I also think of mathematics as an art... perhaps a better description would be a painter and a mathematician... that's a good idea for a video, math (and other fields) as an art... Thanks for your insight!

To me, math is a language used to describe proportions and relationships. Alone, it doesn't mean anything, unless you inherently like abstract internally-consistent systems. But applied, it has the power to describe any physical system you wish to describe. And the fascinating thing we have found is, often mathematical discoveries we have made all seem to map well to these descriptive models as well. Amazingly, we can describe the change of speed of an object and extend this knowledge using calculus??? That is not an intuitive connection. But math makes it possible. I think math is an amazing universal language for this reason. When we describe our world in mathematical terms, we unlock the ability to fold and bend the world in ways that we never could by interacting with it physically.

that's a very wholesome perspective... indeed, many people wonder why math is so effective at explaining the universe... there are different possible answers to that question... it is fun to think about it

🤔 Perhaps a better way of wording the idea of not teaching math would be "not to force math into anyone" 🤔

The unfortunate thing is that we live in a world where tasks need to be done. These tasks are radically different from each other, requiring specialization where the tasks are. If we let students blindly choose a path of learning, they will try to all learn how to become popular and famous influencers, which is impractical in the real world. Students need to be guided atleast from elementary and middle school in order to learn the general skills needed in order to do tasks in the real world

This is one of the beautiful things about being human... as complex as we are, we are also part of a larger system called humanity... none of us decide direction of humanity but we all push a little towards we consider better. Some people/organizations gather political power as to gather more human consciousness into a particular direction... one of my tenets lies on allowing for such type of processes so together we can come up with a direction... but to do it through rational dialog in good faith (unfortunately, some groups have realized that they can get an advantage by restricting the opinion or the rationality of others)... Your point is welcomed and interesting, thanks for sharing it!

I disagree, a lot of people aspire to become doctors, engineers, economists… I’m talking from experience here, I’m a student in Spain in my last year and that’s how I see it, I think that if you asked any young person what they wanna study if they could freely choose, none of them would aspire to become an influencer, as a matter of fact, influencers here in Spain see it as a side hustle, most of them are studying careers and getting money from their platform, at the end of the day It’s still a chance to gain money, and I’m sure this is like this all around europe. So please stop with this absurd generalisation that “young people don’t know how to make choices”, most of the times we do, and support from adults is a very important factor cause we look up to them, so statements like these just bring us down and stops us from saying our opinions to fear of reject.
@sofie414111 ай бұрын
I just checked your profile, and judging from what you post like videos of roblox, I supose you aren’t and adult yet. Or maybe you are, but in case you’re not and you are still a student, why do you talk this way about your own generation? If even our own generation has turned down on itself and lost faith, who is going to support our ideas if no one thinks we are capable of even making decisions
@i_bee_slate10 ай бұрын
@@sofie4141 1. WTF?! 2. Never attacked my generation, I am fully in support of traditional, mass education, as it supports actual career growth. Regarding my KZbinr comment, that's just facts. Go to a middle or high school and half of the students seriously think they can be an esports professional or a content creator
@i_bee_slate10 ай бұрын
@@sofie4141 Sure, I'll drop that. However, I'm talking about the United States and Canada here, home of very popular influencers who have gotten so exorbitantly rich and famous globally that American students forget what it took to put them in their position, and instead they try to become famous with KZbin and Twitch.
