Next time you come you should take a detour to the ouseburn which is roughly a mile along the Tyne (you can metro to byker station) Some amazing craft beers at independent pubs

There are so many pubs in Newcastle that you'll always end up somewhere decent even if you land at some of the more ropey ones. I second he comment from Paul about doing an Ouseburn crawl. Some cracking bars and independent pubs finishing up at my personal favourite pub the Free Trade Inn with stunning views of the Tyne and the bridges.

Excellent Video - I can't believe the number of pubs/bars you get around to visiting in a day!! I spend quite a lot of time in the north east and you've already visited a good number of my favourites. If you are on Day 2 today do bear in mind that Newcsatle are at home so the pubs around St James' will be extra busy. If you are after a few more suggestions go for The Bodega (a lovely stained glass ceiling), The Forth (and other pubs in Pink Lane), The Strawberry (obviously), The Trent House, The Hotspur, Mean Eyed Cat, Pleased To Meet You, Bar Luga, Fitzgerald's and Colonel Porter's Emporium (which is very quirky). I would have said the Wobbly Duck but that's already on your list. In fact, Newcastle is wonderful so wherever you go I'm sure you'll have a great time. Enjoy the rest of your birthday weekend!

Newcastle is the best night out on the planet (OK, I'm a Geordie so maybe a tad biased). View from the free trade inn - Great bar.

The Forth, The Wall, The Bogeda, Wobbly Duck (hard to find) The Bacchus, Fitzgeralds and you missed upstairs in the Bridge Tavern for open air beers, heaters and leather settees.

Most of these very americanized in the last 10 years. Centurion with tvs all over is disgraceful.

FYI. I remember taking a piss in that toilet bar in the Bigg Market in the late 60ies early 70ies. Not been in the Toon for over 30 years now. A lot of changes but still some memories of others.

Avoid any pubs around the Bigg Market, poor beer and too noisy.

@ I maybe should have said too trashy and lack of Real Ale means pubs with only chemical artificial beer to drink. BTW I’m 66.

I frequented the Bigg Market in my youth in the early 90s but avoid like the plague now. The beer was appalling back then and I can’t imagine it’s got any better. Plenty of class bars in Newcastle.

Unfortunately Newcastle is a pale shadow of it once was for nightlife and like many in the UK is now a one night city Yes there are lots of great bars but these were always filled with punters every night at the weekend alas not now
