There are a number of stories where Elvis hears a mistake by one of the band members and rather than highlighting the mistake, Elvis would mess up his delivery, forcing a retake. Elvis KNEW that the “offending” musician knew they made a mistake and that they would not repeat it. Saved a lot of aggro and anxiety by him doing it this way.

There is a live performance of Elvis singing "Are You Lonesome Tonight" where he totally loses it and it devolves into belly laughs. It is really funny and will make you laugh out loud. It makes you remember all the times in your life where it happened to you and you couldn't stop. The outtakes are always interesting though and with Elvis outtakes there never seems to be any anger or animosity. Just giggles and a bit of cussing. They're fun.

He actually yodels in a rehearsal in the studio 1970. He was quite good at it. He and his back up ladies, "The Sweet Inspirations, maybe soon you can do some rehearsal vids, he is hilarious and silly. Thanks Seph.

Music is a subjective thing, but I'm so glad you moved this one up on your chart. Kudos to you, Seph. Fun fact: Elvis could yodel but never did it on a recording. However, you'll get to experience it when you get into rehearsals and funny moments filmed in 1970. Hang onto that hat. You'll need it to keep your mind from being blown away by what lies ahead on the Elvis trail.

Elvis was a perfectionist. Even the slightest imperfection that may have been imperceptible to you or I was scrapped. It's absolutely amazing that we have outtakes and false starts from this era. The cost of tape back then was very expensive and they very often taped over mistakes until the tapes were no longer usable and then disposed of them. Most of what we have now is stuff that was tossed in a vault and basically forgotten. I'm still waiting for Hound Dog outtakes to surface, but I am not very hopeful.

30 takes happened when he recorded Hound Dog before he was satisfied. On some difficult songs part of one take would be spliced onto another to get the desired result. Finding out how Elvis and co.produced his music is educational.
