I hade to share my hostel with a group of "doctors" from Yale who were on a volunteer trip in Panama. Turns out they were first year pre-med, most of them only 18 years old. They took themselves *way* too seriously. I will never forget when one of them felt a bit ill and was laying on the couch surrounded by "doctors" trying to diagnose her. Their "medical" volunteering mostly consisted of them wheeling the old ladies from the senior home around town. (Also, the hostel never got paid for them staying there because the money Yale paid for the trip went straight up the nose of their coordinator.)

Not only was the patient not obese (only overweight), but their arches were so high I could have fitted my whole fist under them and the voiceover from the video clearly stated the patient had a neuropathy (charcot tooth Marie syndrome) that made its arches so high they were walking only on the outer side of the foot and had completely destroyed the natural cushioning of their foot in that area.

It always fascinates me when a med student goes viral for giving “advice.” Even if their school doesn’t have a social media policy, they’ve definitely had *several* discussions about this kind of improper conduct 😬
@JustAFace_InTheCrowd7 ай бұрын
As someone who went to didn’t finish their degree (for psych, not med school), whenever I share anything I learned from my studies, I always give a disclaimer. It’s possible to be well educated in something, but it’s important to let people know that so they at least have the opportunity to realize they should check to see what you’re saying is concrete. Second opinions are important, with anything. Especially anything involving health advice. I’m literally at the halfway point from a masters degree (I really just don’t want it anymore… not after what happened, long story), and I will always admit I don’t know everything. I personally don’t find anything wrong with sharing an educated opinion, however it’s just important to say you’re not currently in the field, where you actually witness things changing in real time. Because you’re not a professional with a license, you’re not there to learn the new things that happen- and that’s why it’s important to say you’re not, cause you might’ve not been taught something or missed something. I don’t understand why people want to pretend to be something they’re not so badly nowadays. I personally struggle to simply be myself, so I find it incredibly…. Odd. Like… these people would be so much better off trying to get into acting, the way they’re already pretending to be other people. Plus, having the title DOCTOR is actually a whole heck of a lot to live up to…. Like… why not pick something easier? Lmfao 😬

there's a reason things are called "theories" in science, and its exactly because of this, scientists are always open to their findings being debunked, so they will never call something a fact, its a theory and always will be, and what we colloquially call "theories" are what scientists call "hypothesis"

When you flush a toilet it sprays tons of miniscule droplets of water out into the air at some pretty high speeds depending on what kind of toilet you have of course. So a toilet being open while showering isn't an issue, flushing it while leaving it open can spread stuff across your bathroom though. Which of course all comes back to touching your skin. In Spain we have 2 different words: "Médico" all the students that finished the University plus all the practice and passed all exams are Médicos. Doctor is only a person that makes his/her PHD and is the highest academic level. And you have Doctors in Language, in Laws, etc. So if she finished her University and passed all her exams she's a Médico, what ypu usually call Doctor. And can be doing a residency or be intern to specialise on one specific field. In my country all the interns and residents are already doctors and finished their basic studies. Then they can stay like that and be a family doctor or go for an specific specialising such Dermatologist (3 years) Psychiatrist (5 years) and so on so forth.

So, in the US, a doctorate is one of the highest degrees someone can earn in many different fields. For example, I am a political science study, I will be going to Law school and I will earn a JD (Juris Doctorate), so I will technically be a "doctor" because I will have a Doctorate degree. However, I can not call myself a medical doctor because I don't have a medical degree or a medical license; I also will not be able to call myself a lawyer because I will not be a practicing lawyer (meaning I have not take or passed the bar exam, and I have not be approved by the American Bar Association). It is actually illegal and punishable by jail time; lawsuit; or a fine to claim that you are a practicing medical doctor or a practicing lawyer, and provide someone with advice in either of those fields when it is not a factual statement. So the messy doctor was, in fact, committing a crime in the US (granted, I don't know where she is in the world, and it would have to be brought to the attention of law enforcement/government officials to be properly handled).

I have a suggestion: why not have influencer raffle off PR gifts they can never use up to their fans. So many of us cannot afford so many of these. I love this one influencer is doing this. We need more of this. As fans like influencer, if we like it, we will buy. You just said what I wrote. Thank you!!!
@JamesWelsh7 ай бұрын
So there is a strict law surrounding holding a raffle because it’s classed as gambling! So most of us just use random name picking websites!

That PR is insane 😂. But like you I get mortified by the amount of skincare I accumulate in PR, and I just refuse to keep it all. Even items I love I pass along to people that can use it. I just call it direct influencing 😂 I’ve reviewed it, I don’t need 30 toners open at once

Gosh the "doctor" lady is so frustrating. I genuinely appreciate you talking about medical professionals having the capacity to be wrong af and people fully being ready and willing to lie about their credentials. Yes, we should be able to trust people as an authority on their subject but people are still people at the end of the day.

The rose inc thing happened to REN beauty, Huda inadvertently exposed them in several clips that I pieced together. She was always obsessed with RENs rose oil and one day the company was secretly sold and an executive reached out to her and asked if she wanted to purchase a percentage of the company. She flew out to their headquarters because the rose oil completely changed her skin and she appreciated how they offered the most exquisite ingredients. Well, at the meeting they started talking and she mentioned how absolutely phenomenal this rose oil was and how she had never used anything like it - the exec cut her off and was like “well, effective immediately we will be reformulating the rose oil with MUCH much cheaper ingredients so that we can increase profit margins, isn’t that great?!!”. Needless to say, she changed her mind and ended the meeting. Before flying back she stopped at RENs store and purchased every single rose oil they had in stock with the original formulation. She flew it back to Dubai and had her team recreate it so that it could live on - today the closest renditions to RENs original rose oil is sold under her brand WISHFUL called Get Even Rose Oil and it’s amazing..

I hadn't heard of Rose, Inc but was this the same brand sold through M&S? I have her original rose perfume which is one of my fav's (rose has always been my fav scent), and some of her silk bras. Nice quality. I hadn't realised she was so involved with her companies - I wonder if that applies to all her companies.

Basically my skin negatively reacts to the sun and I live on Benadryl at times. When my inflammatory bowel disease acts up so does my skin inflammation. I just tried a new make up brand product and my eye lines/waterlines were so inflamed/swollen I had to use an ice pack for relief

The natural product company had a really interesting story, and i think illustrates why some people use natural remedies. I see no issue with trying out alternative products and methods when you're frustrated by the medical industry, especially when you're buying from a company that can produce sterile products that won't go bad within a week. I'm also relieved to see a holistic company with a professional and measured response to valid criticism.

There are plenty of reasons to keep the toilet lid closed when it's not in use, like trying not to have Skibidi Toilet: Live Action Kitty Edition. And waaay back in the day, Penn and Teller did a show called Bullsh*t, which had a segment all about whether toilet seats were as nasty as people presumed. Their conclusions? Nope! As long as you don't have broken skin or do something stupid like lick the seat, it's perfectly safe. You don't even need those paper seat covers. The millisecond I saw she was promoting a cure-all 'salve' , I had flashbacks to black salve (DO NOT looking up.). And, while this won't likely work for the products, there's nothing stopping the people who got that promo fridge from chopping up and freezing those fruits. Free smoothie fodder. I just hope they clean that bottom drawer super well.

I can totally believe a propolis based salve could treat infected skin since propolis definitely is antibacterial. In my country we have wound salves based on things like honey or spruce resin, some of which have a ”medical device” registration meaning they fill requirements set by the EU for medical devices and do actually have an effect, even though they’re not registered as d rugs, so natural is sometimes effective!
