A Microsoft Certification for Server Admins?

As much as it pains me to say it, the days of the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) are gone. What do we have now?

Personally, i think MS were over ambitious about Cloud taken over completely, hence ending the MCSE CERTS . Like John .C rightly mentioned, there are still a large percentage of On-premise Server management-ORGs out there. One example is the National health service here in the UK which still manages their Infra on Prem cos of a plethora State LAWS. I can see MS coming out with a new similar (MCSE) CERT with some what 'Catchy' name.

if you just do everything in the "cloud" or renting computer time on other people's servers it can be very expensive for the compute or storage.....so high density on-prem virtualization can give you long lasting value for things that get expensive in the "cloud"

When you look at AZ-800 and realise it covers Storage, Compute, Networking, Identity… it makes you question why they didn’t just call it MCSA Windows hybrid server Admin Associate as that’s exactly what 70-740,741,742 covered but with a hybrid twist included. AZ-801 would you believe covers securing windows servers… kinda like how the 70-744 to get your MCSE did but again, with a Hybrid twist. I feel they should rename these two exams to MCSA and MCSE Windows Hybrid Server as a lot of recruiters still ask for these ‘titles’ despite nobody in the world holding them anymore as anyone who did would have expired by now and no new way to achieve it 💁🏻

Do we really need office/microsoft 365 E5 to study for the exam? Where they would be used if I bought/started a free trial?

If you want to practice all the hands on, yes you would want to setup Microsoft 365 e5
