This felt like a chilled reprisal of your Backburner series, which are some of my favourite videos on the internet, so this was VERY pleasing

(light ED discussion) I just realized that my anxiety around food has not reared its ugly head this December, and I'm feeling incredibly relieved. I hope you all have a month of relaxation, rest, and peace regardless of your religious celebrations, etc.

Okay so I've started watching this, I'm gonna stop for the moment just to get ready for bed then have this on fully so I can pay attention/probably end up falling asleep to it! Which is 100% a compliment by the way, I love how it genuinely just feels like having a nice warm chat about life and real talk and feels in your kitchen, while you put the dinner on xD and the end result looked LUSH!

I used to watch your videos back in like 2009 and I'm so happy they started showing up in my subscription notifications again. It feels like talking to an old friend I haven't seen in years. Hope you are well Rosianna ❤

Having Latino and European traditions was Christmas for me, we tried our best to maintain what we could. And yes, villancicos and food were of course part of it! This year I am not able to be in Peru so I am the one to decide which traditions I want to recreate here with my friends. I hope all ends soon, but it’s interesting to be the one this year cooking and organizing the holidays. I feel like a new kind of adult 😊

hot tip for brussels: after removing the longer stem and outer leaves, make like two more orthogonal cuts in the bottom, they cook/roast more evenly. i love doing brussel roast with olive oil, garlic and lemon juice (or aceto vinegar), easily best winter vegetable

Ooh yes when I do that I say “x marks the spot” like Indiana Jones in Last Crusade. And thanks for the lemon juice top!

Figuring out meal planning this year has been weird. I was so used to just going out to eat while at work - a few $3 tacos never hurt anyone, but trying to figure out how to make all of my meals at home and make enough meals that I'm not constantly bored of food has been hard.

I rarely have roast dinners, partially because I have carers prepare my meal (and you can't prep and cook a roast in 30 mins), but also because I live alone and even if I was able to cook I feel it's a lot of work for one person, but this video makes me really want a proper roast dinner (thankfully I won't have to wait long as I am lucky enough to be able to visit my parents this year for Christmas dinner). And I totally understand your issues with the food abundance issue, especially this time of year. I love food and I love gifting food, but at this time of year it's far too easy to buy far more than you need and then either force yourself to eat it all, or have to throw it away (when it comes to things like chocolates I try to put a few in a easy place to eat from, but put the rest elsewhere as otherwise I will snack on them all day). I'm slowly getting better at knowing what and how much to get (this year has been especially interesting as I have to write a list for the carer as I can't go to the supermarket myself, so it's been easier to not buy random stuff I see as I usually do, because it's not right in front of me).

Hey Rosianna! I really relate to how your feeling about food lately. I get so tired of it, prepping it, eating it, cleaning up, repeat. I feel like I need recipes in rotation but then I'm also torn by the desire to try new recipes. It's confusing, what do you want Carly?? haha. ALSO, the other day on Instagram you posted a picture of a tomato black bean tortilla bowl from Anna Jones which I have not made yet (planning to make it this week) but I did try another recipe of hers and I really liked it! So I hope maybe Anna can guide me out of my food slump and thank you for introducing me to her :)

The calling sprouts "mini cabbages" (which they both look like and are - as well as broccoli, cauliflower, kale, and a handful of other variants of the same species) and cutting board escapees was a relatable start. Veggies seem to love jumping off of my cutting board. And yeah, food is a lot of work - mentally and physically. I'm disabled in a way that makes food prep difficult/painful, but most low-to-no prep foods are either too expensive or terrible for me...or both! Fun! As for the emotional work of food, x-mas isn't troublesome for me, but (US) thanksgiving is because it's so close to my mom's birthday.

Love some Anna Jones! I got my first Anna Jones book after your backburner on it. Few years later, still happily cooking (I made a new recipe from it last night!). She's changed how I cook in lot's of ways: toppings are key, texture is important, using more ingredients isn't necessarily more work etc. Sometimes I do find the spice level needs increasing, but I am a huge fan. Looking forward to the new book!
