@@emmanuelenyinwa1443 you can clearly see there was none of what you describe. Especially when you watch the camera angle from behind, you can clearly see that VanFleet is guarding up against Lebron and both are pushing into the other player, Lebron stops to call for timeout, which he cannot do at this point in time, as the ball is already in the air, then realizes he made a mistake, and flails himself forward, but standing still for the timeout gesture simply made him loose the milliseconds to get to the ball first. No bearhug anywhere, VanFleet simply played aggressive defense without fouling. Not even Lebron was complaining about it, as he was only arguing about him calling timeout, not that he had been fouled. But lets keep telling us these stories...

So on reddit, all the Lakers fans were blaming Christie for the stupid pass. If you watch the replay from the angle at 5:20, Christie throws it EXACTLY where LeBron's hands were - it just so happens LeBron wasn't asking for the ball there, but for a timeout. But when it's already 5 seconds, no one has called a timeout yet and you see the guy who's supposed to get the ball put his hands up, THAT'S WHERE YOU THROW IT. This was completely on 1) JJ for not calling a timeout, 2) LeBron for waiting so long to call a timeout and confusing his young teammate, and 3) JJ AND LEBRON BOTH for making it clear the ball was *only allowed to go to LeBron*

Lebron trying to call timeout was clearly the wrong move in this situation, and he was not able to call timeout because you can only do that if you got possession of the ball, which the Lakers did not have anymore when the ball was in the air. If Lebron does not stop to call timeout, he will get to the ball first against the smaller player and most likely get the foul call as VanFleet most likely would have crashed into him and Ref would have seen it as him being too late, but since Lebron was the guy late tot he party, they called it on Lebron, which was the right call.

@MrSheduur You mumbled a whole lot of nothing. LeBron was coming to the ball from the opposite sideline. The play was designed for him to get quickly to the ball, catch it and see how the defense lines up. Problem was Van Fleet CLEARLY grabbed him and held him as soon as he tried to come across the court. He held him the entire time, and did not care if the refs called it, as the Lakers needed a three. Had the refs made the correct call, the pre inbound foul is two shots and the ball. The Lakers get two free throws, then the last shot. The ref refused to call the foul, and by the time LeBron drags Van Fleet to the ball, 5 seconds had gone by and LeBron starts calling timeout right as the ball leaves Chritie's hands.

That was pretty much the first rule I remember from my soccer coach. At age 5. If you demand the ball or the player in possession of the ball needs to pass (urgently) because being pressed, you gotta come towards the passed ball, not standing on the spot and definitely not stopping your motion. "Play without ball" it is called. As a kid playing for a small local team of course there were many, many instances when the pass played was just horrible, but in a pro league, the best of the best in their sports, it's at least 80 % (probably more) because of lacking movement from the team members if the opponent reaches the ball first. Lebron acted like a player going down in the penalty box after the slightest touch from the keeper, even though passing him with the ball. He would still have had a chance to score in an empty net from a 25° angle, but he had to have worked for it a little more, which is exactly the problem. with many sports/players. His mind was already in "expecting the ref to call it my way and hand me out a more comfortable possession"-mode instead of fighting for the ball and let the referees and the VAR system decide for themselves. He knew damn well VanFleet would get the ball first in those 2 seconds.

Where it usually is. Non existant. How does someone expect to get open for an inbound pass with 7 seconds left in the game without running full speed? This is 100% coaching. The player throwing the ball in should have the green light to pass it away to someone else or call timeout if the plan isn't there. That should've been the last thing J.J. said to him before breaking from the timeout. "If it's not there, what do you want me to do?" I mean wow. Coaches in movies do that.
@nemac98262 күн бұрын
1. In his "genius level basketball IQ", at 6:24 LeBron doesn't see an opportunity to cut into the open paint and yell for a lob, which would've resulted in a fast layup/dunk and still gave them a 6 or so second game where anything could happen. Instead he gives about 30% effort on that inbound play, and prematurely gives up on it because the play wasn't going to be executed exactly how it was envisioned. 2. Inbounder dogmatically follows the "LeBron must be the ONE" play instead of adjusting to the circumstance and passing to the already open Laker at the 3pt line. (Reason for this also could be that he would've been bullied by LeBron in the locker room later for not passing to him). 3. Inbounder additionally could've realized that there was no play and just try to bounce the ball of the player that was infront of him to try and reset the timer and the play. All in all, LeBron isn't even worth mentioning, I never really understood people's fascination with him even when I was still actively engaged in this sport professionally. He was in my eyes just a rhino that charges down to the rim, ungraceful and non-technically sound player.

So the time out wouldn't have gone through either way. What's funny is, a lot of Laker fans would be mad at Ham for not calling a time out where James has clearly shown here that he knew a time out was needed and tried to call it. So it's odd that Ham was thrown under the bus for not using his time out in "crucial" moments of a game. Interesting that Redick hasn't caught flack for this yet.

Something is going on behind the scenes. The NBA has got to be interfering in coaching around Lebron and forcing them to write plays for him or something. JJ showed early in the year that he knows how to coach a team, and since then the offense has stagnated and returned to Leballhog. It makes no sense.

On this play: 1) Larry Bird inbounds the ball and then gets open easily. 2) Larry Bird makes the shot to tie the game. 3) Larry Bird takes over in OT to win the game.

LeBron is actually the smartest on the team. He knows how to set up a play so that whatever good happens its his credit, but when it's bad he can blame someone else😂

Is Finney Smith actually open? Or is the defender close enough to close out by the time the ball gets there..

Kobe would not have even thought about getting a timeout on that play.

There’s that “high basketball I.Q.” that LeBalco has. 😂

AD should have been making the inbounds pass. GM should have been coming directly to Max, instead he's on an angle which gave Van fleet the opportunity

The "King" surrendered his hands for the time out because in his heart he wanted nothing to do with the last second shot.

JJ was one of those part time players who were scrubs, plumbers etc. No wonder it is all he knows.

Leflop missing is totally OK with him. It still gives him what he wants most, to be the center of attention.

This BUM was scared of the moment as usual. JJ Reddick is a nepo-baby and is getting exposed for his trash coaching. JJ should be fired ASAP if the Lakers GM had half a brain. Sam Cassell would at least know not to run a play for LeChoke in the clutch.

Sam Cassell is too busy trying to get the Cs the first back2back championship since GSW... sorry.

Finney-Smith better get used to being ignored in those situations. Only LeBron is allowed to be the hero!!! 😂 It’s so predictable! Everyone knows the ball is only going to LeBron in buzzer beater situations. It doesn’t matter how bad of a play it is, or little chance of success it has, or there’s someone else with a better chance during the play. It has to go to LeBron!! 😂 This is why LeBron wanted JJ as the head coach. Because he knew JJ would sign off on this stuff every time. Darvin Ham doesn’t have to stand around with his hands in his pockets while LeBron tells him what plays he wants to run. 🤣🤣🤣 Now JJ has to deal with that in the postgame pressers. Sitting there with “bitter beer face” and blaming it on his team being “shocked and blitzed”. 😂😂

to be fair, Lebron has already his hands in a T before Christie releases the ball. But still disastrous execution.

I mean the ball was in the air when he called the time out so would it have even been counted?; like with the ball in the air it's not in any team's proper possession..

weird seeing bron being hugged by such a small human @1:24. That boy got his life on the line for that play lol.
