I had a brief window of time to kill, and spent it seeing what I could find in this old farming community dumpsite in the woods. This is not the best video, it's more a collection of odd little shots without much cohesion... I didn't really set out to make a video, but I filmed an intro just in case, and then had a few pretty good finds, so I thought why not!? It's a one off... and the next video is still scheduled, (fingers crossed) for next week.
I hope you enjoy this video, if you do, then please give it a like, a subscribe, a comment, a share... whatever you feel comfortable with. Suggestions, comments and criticisms are all welcome.

Thanks Melody, I think she enjoyed seeing her friend, there's not been anywhere near as much social in her life over the last few years as she'd like; we're only just starting to get back to it now. Hopefully a more usual length video will be out next week; I'm experimenting a bit with format, even going so far as Shorts... but I'm not counting them as my usual scheduled video. 🙂

Wow, somebody's kindly identified the Ambulance (Thanks so much Dave), and it's a rare, pre-war, Charbens Military Ambulance, made of slush moulded lead... and currently selling on eBay for between £75 and £265 depending on condition. Obviously, this one is very damaged, but it does still have the man on the back, missing from the £75 example. Attempting to restore it myself might be the wrong choice, inexperienced as I am... but it's the choice I'm going with, if for no other reason than I really want to give it a go. 🙂

It is a pretty nice place to live... quiet most of the time, and close enough to town or the woods, or the hills. Except when it gets really cold, and the road ices over, and the water supply freezes. 🙂

Any video by you Tom, is a joy. I love the Ambulance. When I was in the National Guard here in USA, I drove one that looked like that. It was a surplus from WW2 and had a straight 6 standard transmission. I was able to drive a stick shift auto, so I was the driver. Fond memories.

For so many of us that don't have the opportunity to get out and lark around, almost any video is a good one. The part you mentioned terrible footage gave me a sense of how steep and precarious you were while investigating a bottle. May I suggest making wind chimes out of the utensils dangling from a plate or teapot? I’ve got one and I love it. I don’t think they were larked, but they are nicely aged and sound amazing. The height you hang them, and the ‘paddle’ or item you hang the around to bang into can be tuned. My mother who just passed away always gave wind chimes in memory of people passing. The intention was to think of the person when you heard the chime. I loved the ambulance!!!!!!! What a magical find! The cup is quite a piece too! I like this short video. I enjoy any outing you make!

Tom, Short but sweet. THis morning I met a woman at a local thrift store who lived in Yorkshire with her family, moved to South Africa(her Father was an engineer for De Beers, the Diamond mining firm), Then back to England where she graduated from High School, before coming here to the Northwest area of America. She had an American accent, Her early one lost over time , and I told Her about your website and the farmhouse and sheep below you. She said her house had been one of those old, old country ones, as well. She remembered her life there, but said her fondest memories were from South Africa. I asked her why and she said the climate, because although quite hot at times ,it was generally more consistently warm than Yorkshire. To each their own. I love your change of seasons and though harsh during the winter months, has the variety that I grew up with and demonstrates Nature in all Her glory. Cheers, Rik

@@tomburleigh9261 But it doesn't always have to be perfect, right? Even if the restoration doesn't work well, sometimes the path is the goal. Another KZbinr, whose videos I really enjoy watching (Atomic Shrimp, if I may use the name here - otherwise please just delete the comment) has started a series at the moment. He tries to make clay pots himself. Unfortunately, a lot of things break when the clay objects are burned. But he communicates very well that sometimes the learning process and the work are almost more important than the end result. A very good inner attitude, I think. You never disappoint Tom. Although you were concerned about climbing the steep slope while filming it was good to show the lengths a mudlarker will go to find something special or be disappointed. Thank you & glad you had time with your girlfriend.

Good evening and thank you very much for the video! Considering that it was only a short detour, you found some really nice things! I think it doesn't always have to be long videos - I thought it was great that you let us participate in your spontaneous venture! For me it's like meeting a dear neighbor in front of the house and having a short chat - you don't always have to sit down and chat for hours. And I think shorts (on some channels) are great too. In addition, you sometimes spontaneously become aware of something new.

Hi Tom. It's late afternoon here in Ontario, Canada, on a gorgeous summer-like day. I loved this video, as I love all your releases. I never consider the length, as I know I'm going to watch as soon as I see the thumbnail. 😁😉 Socialising is gradually making its way back into peoples lives, mine included. But I still prescribe to the concept of "Less is more". 😂 I hope you are feeling better every day, and looking forward to many possible activities to come. See you next time. Bye for now. 😊💛👍

Hi Noralee, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I shall probably do more shorter videos in future as the response has been quite positive to this one. Socialising is coming back to me too, slowly... have been to two music performances in the last week and, talked to people. I am feeling a lot less fatigued now, and slowly recovering my lost fitness... looking forward to doing a bit of magnet fishing soon, and mudlarking when the river level drops a bit after a lot of rain here. I hope you have a lovely evening. 🙂

I haven't had much success with posting vintage bottles. I wasn't selling them, just sending them to people as gifts, and though I'm pretty good at packaging things up (I used to sell a lot of different things on eBay and Amazon), about 10% of the bottles didn't survive the journeys. That makes me reticent to try selling them.

Such a wordsmith! It looks great to have that dump nearby, bit I'd have to do a dig 😉 Quite a few bottles I'd take from there. That ambulance could be Mazak (a zinc alloy) like other toy cars. Early ones were susceptible to mazak rot due to impurities.
@tomburleigh9261
@tomburleigh9261 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Richard. I guess it could be an alloy, but I'm pretty sure part of the alloy is lead... it's very heavy for its size, is quite soft, and the remaining wheel is exactly the same as many of the lead wheels I've found at the base of the cliff site. If you visit this area, I'll be happy to share this location with you for a little, surreptitious dig. 🙂
