Lincoln has such a long and fascinating history! I wish I could make an hour long episode diving into it!! Haha honestly, Steep Hill lives up to its name. Lovely video. I lived just outside Lincoln for many years and still have family there. I now live in Australia but make a point of visiting each time I go back. So much history, including the Romans and the Dambusters Squadron at RAF Scampton (the Roman road is the A15 which runs past Scampton). The “man and his dog” statue in the grounds of Lincoln Cathedral is Alfred, Lord Tennyson who was Queen Victoria’s Poet Laureate in the last 1800s. He was born in Somersby in Lincolnshire and his resting place is Westminster Abbey.

As no one else seems to have mentioned it, Eleanor is the reason for the 12 Eleanor Crosses built wherever the body rested on it's way down to London for burial. It's how Waltham Cross and Charring Cross - as in the railway station - got their names, Three of the originals survive.

SUCH A BEAUTIFUL CITY AND IT REMINDED ME SO MUCH OF FRANCE WITH ITS CATHEDRAL AND CASTLE SINCE WE ALSO DO HAVE THE SAME IN NORMANDY! I LOVE THAT HSORT VISIT AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR GUIDANCE!

I’m so happy you enjoyed this trip to Lincoln! It’s a beautiful city. Funny you mention Normandy! I am actually planning a trip there this year. I’ve been before and visited some wonderful places but I’m researching quaint, picturesque villages for this trip and gardens. If you have any recommendations as a local to the region I’d love to know 🥰🙏
@francisjacquart96189 ай бұрын
@@theslowtravelsfamily WELL DEAR, I AM NOT EXACTLY A LOCAL TO THE REGION, EVEN THOUGH WHEN I WAS VERY YOUNG WE LIVED IN NORMANDY, BUT I CAN FIND INFORMATION FOR YOU! NOW, I CAN IMMEDIATELY TELL YOU, THAT NO VISIT OF NORMANDY IS COMPLETE WITHOUT MONT ST-MICHEL. IT DATES BACK THOUSANDS OF YEARS AND THE VILLAGE IS BUILT WITHIN THE ISLAND AND ALSO THE CLOISTER AND THE CHURCH! IT IS UNIQUE IN THE WORLD : kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKu4YptsZt6kh8ksi=_WFm3VhBZ9eN1s8O
Really lovely! Always enjoy your tours. There is something different about Lincoln Cathedral. Maybe it's the octagonal corner towers and the wide front facade. It also appears to be massive! I adore the rows of flower and animal carvings. I'm also intrigued about that Wren Library. I'll have to look it up. History tidbits are always fun. Sausage rolls are not easy to find in Southern California, but there are a few English folk who ventured across the Pond to set up tea shops and pubs here. There is one place, called Shakespeare's (yes, really), that serves High Tea on one side of the building, and pints with meat pies, fish and chips, etc. on the other. The place goes nuts during the World Cup. :0

I so love your videos!! You always seek out and give time to the very same architectual and garden views which i would stand at stare at, as well !! Thank you for the wonderful tour!!! Beautifully done!! Although I've been to the cathedral, uncle was at the helm, and we had to race on to the next cathedral on his list... I recall the yard around..(funny..i get more interested in the exteriors than the interiors, usually!) However, this is my first sighting of anything beyond !! Thank you again! ❤❤❤❤❤

@theslowtravelsfamily Hi again, I truly, truly did!! Can't wait for that next Lincoln video, come springtime or summer!! Being in the states, it's taking me much longer to get back than I'd like, lol, but i will !!!
