It was common in the early settler days to have a separate kitchen to keep the main house cooler in the summer.

I'm guessing that city folk would not be aware of that and something lost in time. I still love that broken down wood oven / stove (or so it appears)

There is a lot of history out there for a country like ours that is so young and each generation did things and lived their lives slightly different - I need to make it clear that I don't force entry, make my presence known wherever I go and always park my mode of transport in an obvious place for anyone passing to see it. I can't reiterate enough that I don't condone graffiti, theft or vandalism at these locations I visit and if I come across someone committing such an act in my presence, they will be identified for police to action.

Nice video. Country families were usually massive by todays standards. A house like this one could've very well supported a family of 10. This arrangement existed well into the 60s. As for the wars it was expected that a family would contribute their unmarried sons for the war. Normally one or two of them would be kept at home to help their old man on the farm and the rest would be sent away to war. In the Second World War, families would be visited by what were essentially press gangs which would round up any 'surplus' sons. Pretty horrific.

The next video will be of Cape Clear - The township (next Friday at 6:00am) and I visit the cemetery and find a number of individuals that served and died during WW1 and WW2 - very moving for me as my grandfather died during WW2 and whom I was named after.

I love this channel. Not every abandoned home is haunted right? People are making alot of money for all the added drama of these old homes as being haunted. When simply they are just families memories left behind. Makes me sooo sad. New Subscriber here. TFS

I've never seen a ghost yet, except on tv ! It is sad to see how some homes come to an end - I've seen homes less then 20 years old abandoned by developers that just want the land or when you see 100 year old homes weather away for a number of reason; no children to take over, issues with construction that includes lead paint, electrics etc and just too expensive to justify their updating or simply the town they are in slowly die.

Why is it so many people have no respect for private property??? I have an old house on my property and wouldn't appreciate you wandering around uninvited.

I understand your anguish and concern, however anyone has the right to walk up to a front door and knock on the door of any property; including mine (that's legislated). Obviously these properties are not occupied, are unsecure, vacant, often dilapidated and I do go through the motions of calling out to make my presence known. I have on times discovered the homeless, squatters, individuals of mental health issues or substance abuse in them and notify the appropriate authorities for welfare checks. Not wanting to upset, but there are websites better then Google Maps that update your property and mine, at least 2-3 times a months with much better clarity; so privacy is only truly guaranteed under one's roof and behind closed doors ! It is important that NO-ONE forces entry, causes damage via graffiti or vandalism, commits theft and your should immediately contact police if that occurs. You also have the right to contact police if you witness suspicious activities on your property and if you find a person on your property that refuse to leave IMMEDIATELY, then police can enforce the trespass laws for their eviction.

there's stuff in that house worth stealing. the fireplace surrounds and that charming wardrobe. i'm surprised the copper liner is still in the 'copper' in the back building. the back building may have been built before the front one to provide a roof until they could afford to build the main house. in fact there may have been a far more primitive building that predates both of the existing buildings.

I always place my vehicle (car or bike) in an obvious place when exploring for the passing traffic to see it and me; being in the country, locals do have a very good memory of strange vehicles they've never seen and in my case, often do stop and have a chat (which I think is great neighbourhood watch). As for items worth stealing, hopefully not, as you're likely to get caught with many nearby properties having CCTV covering the roads alongside their property and any flashlight at night, will standout like a beacon from some distance !
