I love his honesty. As Pema Chodrun said: You look at a room full of Buddhists meditating and you think they're all blissfully peaceful. But you're not seeing inside their minds! It's a madhouse in there!

Yes, very sensible. As an aside. Perfect. For the last five days I have been meditating near the spot where Buddha's foster mother attained Parinirvana. What better place. Imagine it. All the greats sat around where I sat looking on and helping Prajapati Gautami attaining Parinirvana. The spot is lovely and serene on the banks of the Ganges. Wow. The Buddha watched on, Sariputra and Mogallana watched on, Kassapa, Bhaddaji and the other disciples watched on, Visakha and Amrapali watched on, Theri Uppalavana watched on and helped Prajapati Gautami to have her last bath. The five hundred nuns were sitting around meditating. It took time. I was on that spot imagining that scene through my monkey mind as I tried to meditate. Amazing experience.

I love this beautiful monk..he speaks with honesty, humility. Ive been reading and practising Buddhism for 25 years. Ive survived cancer, my husbands illness, his recent passing. Three years of deep personal anguish! Buddhism has helped me to learn Acceptance. To have Compassion for suffering of others....this lessens my own sorrow. .....

Thank you so much! My Buddhist reading and meditation allowed me to get out of a deep depression and crippling social anxiety when I was in my twenties two decades ago. Until I started reading about mindfulness and meditation I'd had no idea that it was possible to observe and transform my own reactions and emotions. But recently I'd been feeling stuck, feeling like my meditation and mindfulness were no longer "working." After listening to your talk, I realized that it was because I'd started expecting my meditation to immediately make me feel better when I was in a difficult situation or a depressed mood. It was like I was trying to force myself to feel grateful, happy, and calm immediately when I started meditating. Now I feel "unstuck" because I am simply observing my feelings, sensations, etc.--not expecting anything to change. Now I am experiencing things with so much more awareness. I realize that before I wasn't actually even feeling the water running over my hands or the carpet under my feet. I was only thinking about how much I wanted to be aware of them and appreciate them! It's been incredibly helpful to realize that I was using my meditation practice like a drug to help me get high and that's why I was becoming less and less happy despite having a really good life.

Buddhism is only a religion when you are devoted to Buddha. But Buddhism is also a more practical way to liberation then what is recounted for instance in Christianity. Although the same ideas, Buddhism - or rather Zen Buddhism- is much more straightforward way to discovery of the Self. But the ideas were already there before the Buddha.

Your suggestion cannot be deleted, like YT, Tweeter, Story corps,FB etc. If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. I'm about 1 month into meditating daily (I've had bad anxiety all of my life) and in the beginning I kept thinking I'm doing this everyday why don't I feel different. I was doing exactly what he talked about "The more I want to feel happy, the more I'm telling myself I lack that feeling".

I have a good meditation that I use. Focus on breathing and then notice "this is the body" "this is thought" "this is emotion" and then look for what else is here. What is here that is not those things? I think the reason I find this really good is because youre not focussing or struggling with all those other things.

Ask yourself am I a god, or goddess. Have I got the ultimate power of producing life ? If yes or no look into these simple questions and decide my responsibilities lye with either your happiness,or the happiness of your creations. Be selfish if no offspring, find happiness in your creations if you have offspring. Then slap your face hard and get a grip of selfishness.

My English is not good enough to understand completely 100% of what you've said yet and I'm a cripple. My right leg was broken when I was a small boy making it shorter than the lelf. I can't sit cross-leged. Being born in Asian culture, there are situations and times that require to sit on the floor, so I've to sit one-side leged and will be like that for the rest of my life which makes me feel frustrated about myself quite often. But while listening to your talk and I try to do as what you're saying especially compassiong towards oneself and about those seven steps and I found that I've completey taken out all those frastated feelings off my mind. Now I don't have trouble concerning being what I am any more and I can sit more than one hour at a stretch without feeling a bit of frastrating and pain. Thank you so much for enlightening talk.

I appreciate this amazing discourse because I am listening to this when I am ready! Some questions by a few doubters in the end are from a place that they are extremely busy with the logical workings of a busy 'i need to have this now' frame of mind. I have been there and understand this even more. Brave of the speaker to pour his heart out from scratch and still face the doubters with grace. That is what Compassion is all about!!!

The main problem I have found while meditating was that I was not controlling my emotions (accessing my real deep emotions) I could go and do my meditation every day like a robot without moving and not feel any real changes in my behavior, I did Ayahuasca which really helped my go inside my emotions, Ayahuasca ceremonies can be quite difficult sometimes but it will only reveal the darkness inside you. Meditation helps A LOT during an Ayahuasca ceremony because you understand better your mind. Thanks for sharing I really agree with you about meditation how you should practice. I have only done 10 day retreat courses, I think if we can aid ourselves with psychedelics we can achieve better results if we do it in the correct context, so learning meditation first is huge to improve any experience.

Being kind to myself is the point that shouted out to me when I first listened to this talk. So, it must be that I need to be kind to my mind, rather than being angry and impatient with it, because underneath this is really my anger at myself.

Thank you Gelong Thubten. Very clear lesson. Buddha came to earth to show us the way to build our consciousness, in this manner we train our spirit to have the strength to resist temptations. Therefore purity as a human and our spirit. Through purifying to the highest level only then we can sit with all Buddhas in Nirvana. That's my understanding of the love n efforts of Buddha came to save the world. Buddhism is not only a philosophy side, there is also a spiritual dimension. I was ever literally been saved from a deadly fall by Buddha Averlokitisvara.

I am 100% Non Violent......., I often wonder why violence was used when Heaven Smart was the true Art of defeating Medi-evil. Most of us in this World are good people, and all to often the Minority are the problem, Hey IGNORE THEM, and no more problem.BUT! first you have to learn the Art of Heaven Smart, though..be assured if enough of you did Heaven would rule this World and not Hell.... 1st lesson, You are herded and very easy to control because your divided, the Minority divide and conquer, only united can you stand, divided you fall, one and all. 2nd lesson. When you call someone a mug for taking a drug, I ask you, is it the one on drugs, who know,s he,s taking them, or the one who thinks he isnt but is, hey! who,s the mug. [flouride, Aspartame, aluminium, chem-trails, in your food water and air], and these chemicals change personality, character etc, they change your conscious state and lower your IQ levels. It will be hard today to find a human being not effected by a chemical. Everyone is a druggy. 3rd lesson. Once you get to grips with lesson 2 you can move to lesson 3. You use the known tried and proved methods of contacting your higher spiritual self, Soul and source God of course, Allah, different names same Being, [remember the divide and rule lesson, different "faiths" killing each other, everyone killing for God, and I ask you, is Lucifer/satan behind that?.] Once you grasp lesson 3, using the correct drug,s, yoga, all the various systems, the path,s are many, Japa Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Raja Yoga, Kundalini Yoga[but do not try to awaken it, much spiritual, physical preparation is needed over life times to prepare for its awakening]. Karma Yoga. This is obviously internal inner being "work", there,s also the external, we have a deep connection with this planet on a physical level, NURTURE IT, it is DYING. When it Dies you Die. Before moving to lesson 4 let me mention this, All the talk of disaster, end time days, Armageddon etc..What ever lies ahead for this World will hit one and all, face it as one or all will fall. 4th lesson, Get rid of your Golden Rule!, Gold should not Rule your World. Take gold off your alter, stop worshipping materialism and valueing it above and beyond life, each other, Mother Earth. Replace it with the gifting system, everyone work,s say, 20hrs a week to sustain society, with high technology and a sane approach to materialism it could be reduced to 16hrs a week[2 days]. Add the H.I.P.P.I.E. Ideal, Help In Producing Peaceful Individual Existence. Your free to do whatever you want. Unfortunately the "Babylonian Wage Slave System", has been in place for 5000yrs, though everything ends. Everything/. The Babylonian system has failed mankind, your World is dying, utter failure. 5th lesson, Having achieved the first 4 lesson,s you should now be starting to realise your deeper connection,s with each other and will be developing a spiritual strength and bond with one another, once you do this and reach "The critical point of no return", it will spread to the rest of Mankind. "6".....NOW!..Heaven Rules planet earth and not Hell.... 7th. "The Holy War". Her true and treacherous people, what answer from there land, will Mansoul Fall or will it Stand

As I listen to this beautiful monk putting his words and gestures together so effortlessly without even trying to convince the audience - he naturally connects and speaks to each individual in that room with sincerity and compassion to the degree that he conveys the message in such simple but deep enough - even for me who's watching at home. I could immerse just by listening to him. I feel empowered, nurtured, and inspired. 💖 Thank you, monk, Gelong. Namaste!🙏

A very interesting account of his background, I can definitely relate to many of the issue’s he’s discussed and especially panic and anxiety, I’ve meditated for over 16 years and it obviously doesn’t take the fear and anxiety away as I realized that once I was clinging then it was creating more of a problem. I really appreciate this authentic, genuine and honest talk from the heart.

I am a child of the 60ties, grew up in the 70/80ties...no Internet, no mobiles...I already was spiritually interested with about 18...ey, I had to search (dig deep woud fit better...^^) the libraries etc for books...that was pretty much the only way to find knowledge in these times(without travelling to India, Thailand etc...xd). And now, I sit down in a comfortable chair at home....few mousclicks....bammm...here it is......many thanks for uploading that gem of wisdom
