What a difference! The gracious departure of Sunak and the polite acknowledgement of his ptedecessor's efforts by incoming Sir Kier, stand in stark contrast to Washington DC in Jan 2021. A six-week national campaign, voting yesterday, results overnight, new guy takes over just 12 hours after polls closed. Done and dusted. Perhaps America might learn some lessons here.

The issue is the people who voted themselves into this mess with the likes of Nigel, Boris, and the gang will somehow perform the most insane mental gymnastics to transfer all the blame to Labour if there is no immediate turn around. We nearly got rid of him - he was supposedly going to take up a post in the Trump campaign - says it all really. There may be a glimmer of hope in that he will be a terrible MP, it's too much like hard work.

I’m so confused. They have elections? I thought a PM was appointed by the King or Queen of England.

Yes we have Elections and the one who wins the most seats is Elected Prime minister, as a Protocol he/she then has to go to the King or Queen and get appointed (ERGO accepted by the Monarch).

@@OneTrueScotsmanLabour has just seen a massive recovery in Scotland at the expense of the SNP, so that SNP spin is not gonna wash. If you think Labour feels like an English party that'd be because England has 84% of the UK's population. No shortage of Scots and Welsh in Labour (NI is different of course).

Delighted to see the Tories gone, and to give my vote to “no drama” Starmer. I hope he surrounds himself with the best advisors, as he’s relatively new to politics, and delivers on his promises. I’m not naïve enough to think he’ll deliver on all, but hopefully on the some of the most important (funding, not neglecting the NHS, Great British energy, and a decent living wage, even though it’s pretty good relative to the US wage). It’s equivalent to $15 per hour progressives are championing.

Why are we still being subjected to Joe Scarborough? Mika can do everything he can do "backwards and in high heels," as Ginger Rogers said. And she can do it without cutting off his co-anchor or eating up the commentary we really want to hear, from guests, with his his self-absorbed drivel. Dump him. Or give him his only show, MSNBC, where viewers who like his backwoods delivery can wallow in it.

Brit here... imagine previous democrat voters not wanting another presidency with biden/democrats soo badly they vote for republican by means of protest rather than wanting republicans, that's what happened here. Kier Starmer, staunch supporter of Proportional Representation when he wasn't leader, then, once he was leader and Labour were pretty much guaranteed the victory decided "nope, this undemocratic and outdated FPP system works just fine" funny that... he has shifted labour so far to the right that he is ditching MP's that have served the party for decades and instead embrace hardline right wing tories into the party.. so no... it is NOT a monumental victory... Labour got 34% of the vote... let that sink in... 34% of the vote during an election that had the lowest turn out since the 1940's yet they get 64% of the seats.... this is NOT democracy
