Have stayed at the Norbreck Castle many times and always found the staff to be great. The building around the back on it's own is were the hotel does it's laundry :-)

Interesting, thanks. My dad was a jazz muso and regularly played at the Norbreck... probably late 80s and 90s... a very popular weekend! Happy days! Jx

Stayed at Norbreck three weeks ago. Not too bad, given the price (£45 for double room), but very basic. New carpets and cheap sofas and tables in public areas. Minimal contents in bedroom, including thin mattress, I suppose to discourage theft. No bog roll holder or towel rail in bathroom - looked like both had been ripped away from wall. Breakfast in cavernous dining room was edible but industrial-standard. Biggest failing - the hotel bar shut at 9pm, yes 9pm - so we had to go back out shortly after 9pm and get tram to Fleetwood, where we enjoyed some late-night (I mean, after 9pm) beers at the ‘Spoons.

Originally Norbreck castle had hosts Mr and Mrs Braithwaite. They lived at Blowing Sands, an area of Common Edge Road, Marton Moss, at the bottom of Squires Gate Lane. They lived in a 16th century cottage at the end of a row of cottages. Their son, Billy , made the first swimming pool at the hotel. Their relatives still live on Marton Moss. I enjoy the videos. Left Blackpool in 1991 and now live in Pahrump, in the Mohave Desert, west of Las Vegas.

Thanks for another different view of Blackpool and some of the houses further down do look like they are a bit better and dearer. It's just a shame so many houses are rundown but it's the same everywhere. Be safe Stephen.

Stayed at the Norbreck as a kid in the 1980s. It was rather basic, as I recall (some of the more candid in the family group used the words "bit of a dump..."), with the size of the place it was a great place to explore as a kid. It also had a snooker room full of photos of the snooker tournament they hosted at the time.

Hi Stephen. Great video as ever. I gave some info relevant to the video you may find interesting. In the late 80s and into the 90s I worked for Boddingtons Brewery and a pub manager. In 1988 I was at the Thornton Lodge in Little Thornton . The pub had previously bern known as the Buccaneer. The pub was owned by a msn who owned about 8 pubs on the Fylde Coast . All the pubs had a sea going theme. The Buccaneer, the Volunteer The Mutineer The Bounty Aand the County at Lytham and the Mariners as featured in this video. In about 1985, the owner sold out to Boddingtons Brewery. He also had a business near the airport. He also had a couple of other pubs maybe the Traveller's at Cleveleys. They were all hugely busy pubs back in the day. Hope this is interesting to you. Cheers Mike. The same guy also owned the Illawalla next door the Thornton Lodge aka The Buccaneer.

What a fantastic history and information packed video Stephen. You’re a natural. Love your humour, the lady whistling and mattresses outside a hotel maybe ? Lmfao. A natural. Perfecto ! I’ve learned so many things about places previous on sites and lots roads and sides roads never. Been down or knew existed. Don’t know lot Blackpool roads let alone further afield and other areas nearby ish ! So it’s so good for you to highlight so many things, you’re an encyclopaedia of knowledge Stephen, you know so so much and facts. Absolutely amazing. No wonder you e thousands followers and avid fans. I consider myself a top fan and always try watch well do watch them and put my comments. The norbreck castle, clueless, heard of it, see it when passing on a train, but never stayed in it, seems be many bad review !! It’s a big place, guess with much smaller hotels etc there’s more of a personal touch, and time to manage it and smooth running, but a place that big, Who may have cut corners ! I’ve no idea whatsoever. Oh yeah ! You mentioned a. “Haunted house” or supposedly ? Could you let us know the full name or road or number. I like researching on that type stuff. Thanks. Again a fabulous video Stephen. Keep up your great work, time and decication. Takecare. Have a relaxing Thursday and Friday and weekend too. Di. Xxxx

The original hotel was the block on the right as you face the building. I have always thought it looks rather sinister - evil, in fact - but the recent rather bold repaint has worked in its favour. I remember the BP petrol station at the front . Occasionally I used to walk to work along Norbreck Road next to the hotel and the view of the rear of the building (not seeen by residents) was truly appalling.....this was nearly 30 years before I first saw the shocking reviews of the place. Nothing on this earth would get me inside there......100 years ago there were large potted palms in the Dining Room. The hotel had style! The back looks a lot more presentable now.

Hi Stephen - I stayed at the Norbreck back in February / March 2023. It was basic but for the price I could not complain. Everything in the room worked, the radiator too. I actually ate most breakfasts and evening meals there and whilst they didn't vary that much over the course of two weeks, there was certainly plenty to eat. The bed was comfortable and I slept like a log. Would I consider staying there again? I would say yes. My room actually looked back on to the Morrisons Daily; not a great view but I wasn't staying there for the views. I also remember attending the pool when I was very young and at school (cannot remember which school - it was either Baines Endowed primary or Belvedere [now Milford]). The pool was on the Norbreck Rd side. I saw in Feb that they now have a pool near the dining area so not sure if the original pool has been closed.

Stayed there a few times, never had any problems. You get what you pay for; they’re a value hotel for coach trips and cheapskates. If you want somewhere more swanky, pay a bit more. You can hardly pay some of the cheapest rates and expect the ritz.

In 1991 anyone could become a snooker professional if they had the money to pay for entry to tournaments and around 700 people did so ' including a 16 year old ronnie o Sullivan 'John Higgins and mark Williams ' i spent most of that summer watching them in there first season ronnie won around 72 of 74 qualifying matches there' including the quickest ever best of 9 match which he won in around 42 minutes and yes i was there' also the Mariners pub was the pub Alex Higgins would go in when he was playing in the qualifiers and was often seen worse for wear' also the bend you walked to at the side of the norbreck if it was daylight you would have seen a massive tap and watering can feature in one of the gardens approximately opposite the vets
