I am sorry for your loss.💔 She takes her job VERY seriously, as she should, understanding these are our loved ones after all. I have been to funerals where my loved ones looked NOTHING like themselves because of the prep process and makeup and I felt like I was more traumatized by that, than their passing because you imagine a loved one at peace and when a mortician drops the ball or creates a whole wrong personality for our loved ones through makeup, it can be really really unsettling to see, not to mention you know you are putting them to rest looking like something they would NEVER approve of. I am glad to know there are people out here like her to make this very sad time a little easier through her talent.

Monica Torres is a breath of fresh air for this industry. I absolutely love her honesty (especially about her own self care), and her apparent passion for the death care industry. I’m also a funeral director / embalmer, and I totally agree on the dating aspect she talks about at the end. Morticians are important, more important than one could think. My husband passed, 33, and let’s just say he did not look like himself when he passed. I was so scared for our daughter to see him that way. When we got to his wake he was perfect, he was himself and I was so grateful. My daughter saw her dad one last time and it was her dad and I saw my husband.

I’m so sorry for your loss and I relate deeply to your story. My childhood best friend passed away of a drug overdose two years ago at 26. Needless to say, she had been at the worst point in her addiction and did not look great leading up to her death. Years of heroin use had taken an obvious toll on her body. But the person who embalmed her made her look exactly as I remembered her. It was really moving to see how much good care had gone into embalming her.

I find it weird that the bodies are embalmed in the US. In Europe we don't do that in 95% of cases. Why is that?
@2yeon2 жыл бұрын
1. Though embalming has no roots in Christian religion, it is neither discouraged nor encouraged. Muslim, Bahá'í and orthodox Jewish faiths consider embalming to be a desecration of the body, and pro- hibit it. Hindus and Buddhists choosing cremation have no need for embalming. 2.Because the fluid contains formaldehyde, which is poisonous, European Union regulators are considering banning the chemical as a potential threat to human health and the environment. Among the worries, environmentalists say: decaying bodies leaching toxic chemicals into the ground.
