Hi Sandy. I am really enjoying these cycling videos, not that I don't enjoy the motorcycle videos as well being a biker. You tend to see so much more of the countryside and nature on a bicycle. You are very lucky to have several cycle routes in your area, all we have in North Devon is the Tarka Trail. I must admit as I am now 71 my Giant Rock mountain bike tends to stay in the garage. I have given in this year and followed your mate Dave and bought a KTM Macina 291 E-mountain bike. 60 mile range in tour mode and the country lanes/hills around here are now a doddle. Good luck with the big ride.

Nice historic ride with your mates Sandy . Good to see you wearing a helmet this time although Tony must have got hot and took his off at one stage . Good video, as are all of yours. I have an old mountain bike which I rescued from the bin. It stood for 2 years in all weathers in a neighbour’s garden until he put it out as rubbish. New bearings, new chain and sprocket block and new brake blocks and cables and it’s like new, runs a treat and it’s light (alloy frame). I need to get out on it more. But this weekend (in the heatwave!) I’m at the Lightweight Adventurers motorcycle festival. Thinking of you Sandy! 73, Les g0nmd

Nothing wrong with using your old bike and servicing in fact it's VERY fashionable and hipster to do so now. I've just rebuilt a touring bike using an old Felt QX75 hybrid bike that I got off Marketplace for £90, runs like a dream now. I'm currently eyeing up a classic Dawes Super Galaxy touring bike for £110 (Needs work.) They were THE touring bike to have when I was in my late teens (Late 80's). Just call whatever old bike you have "Classic", "Retro", "Restored", "Custom" or "Vintage"... it adds to the value. ;)
@WiltshireMan2 жыл бұрын
I'm also rebuilding my old Revel Romany which dates from the early 80's, Reynolds 531 frame and forks and it has a Freewheel. Just ordered a new Freewheel and chain, then will regrease all the bearings, fit new handle bar tape and it should be good to go. I rode that bike from Lands end to John O Groats many years ago!
@createdezign18402 жыл бұрын
@@WiltshireMan A lot of those old bikes with TLC a few upgrade and a bit of tweaking work better than new. I'd kill for a mint Escort Mkii it's no different with bikes, at least they are reasonably affordable at the moment. I also collect vintage HiFi but that's VERY fashionable now so much so that collectable stuff has become WAY overpriced. You want to see the price used cassette tapes go for now...lol

Good on ya, Sandy for keeping the bike simple. When I was younger I worked as a mechanic in a bike shop for many years. I got caught up in always wanting the newest and shiniest gizmos. Now in my late forties, I got rid of all of that and now ride a rigid steel frame mountain bike, with longevity and durability the main goal. Slow and steady riding to enjoy the countryside instead of trying to go faster than everyone else is the goal now. I have been acquiring gear to do a multi day bike adventure soon, and your video is inspiring. I just wish I could do it in your area, I’d love to explore such a wonderful area!

What a fine adventure - Fyfield Downs? I’ve long intended to visit there, but it’s a bit more of a trek for me… and once I’ve made it to Avebury I’m generally just happy to settle down and chill on the banks of the Avebury circle, and stare up at those enigmatic Beech plantations on the skyline. They always seem to me, looking from afar, like they might be quite spooky places.

Great Weather for bikes Sandy.... did you find out more about those settlements you found with the drone?
@WiltshireMan2 жыл бұрын
Hi John, Yes it's been fantastic weather if a bit too hot. Some of the settlements in the previous video where already recorded on the Wiltshire archive but I could have found two that aren't. Certainly they have no record of the rectagular parch mark which one knowledgeable person says could be a Viking longhouse from the 8th Century
@faz58242 жыл бұрын
I have an ebike. The only reason I have it is because I am 60 yrs old and about 8 years ago had a total left hip replacement. I would be ok on a normal bike except for going up steep hills. it's not that I'm not fit enough to do so. It's if I get to a hill and have to get out of the saddle. there's a good chance of my hip popping out of it's socket! Wouldn't be nice. lol.

Interesting, I watched that video Mark and I noticed he flew the craft mostly in "Ground effect" (close to the ground where you get a bit more lift) so maybe that was incase there was a failure, or the machine is incapable of flying higher. I'd say probably kept it low incase of a failure. When a quad copter loses even one quadrant of lift the result is a fast catastrophic and spiralling loss of altitude, but I did notice he had two motors and props on each arm so may have build in redundancy....Better off on a bike Mark, everyone is a cyclist:)
