Shabanis going to have to put all three of them in check at the same time and remind them of who’s in charge. The disrespect is getting worse by the day and it’s sad to see because they’ve always been close and a laidback group. Kilo wouldn’t be behaving that way if he didn’t have his two bodyguards protecting him everywhere he gos. It seems like it really hurts Annie to see the two family members she loves the most fighting, she wants no part of it.

I just felt the whole group was waiting for something to happen. It’s sad when the troop opposes its silverback, who is trying to protect his territory. I used to take a decidedly non-interference stance, but now I would like to see Kiyomasa moved for his own safety, and Shabani to get a young wife who would appreciate him, as Ai and Nene do not.

Kiyomasa is already getting silver. Shabani and Momotaro did this early as well. He needs to find girls of his own now. Shabani will have to firmly discipline his son otherwise and I guarantee Shabani will win. I love Kiyomasa but this is too much stress for the whole family. The same thing is starting to happen with Momotaro son Gentaro. It’s hard to watch.

That's what I'm hoping for at this point. I mean, I don't want to see any one of them to get harmed but Shabani has to REALLY put his foot down. Shabani's softness is what has made him my favorite but I do wish he had some of his brothers skills to situations like this. Haoko wouldn't have accepted this for more than one second. All three of them would be disciplined greatly.

Maybe it's just a phase like 4 months ago. Eventually it'll be time for him to move but he's only been acting odd for a few days. Maybe it'll pass. Gentaro is years older but is still functional in the family unit. It's not uncommon for gorillas not to leave families in the wild till they are basically silverbacks.

I agree Shabani needs two new sisters to be wives. Nene, Ai and Kiyomasa are so tight, bound by familial ties that it is more challenging for Shabani. Kiyomasa will be an absolutely fabulous silverback. Too bad the zoo can't take him to another off shore zoo in exchange for two females. The problem with one female is they will gang up on her, I think.

This time I think he took serious action with Kiyo. The fight was big and Kiyo's injury is no nonsense. Annie did not follow the group that was chasing her father even though she was worried about her brother. This was not a fight like the previous one a few months ago.

Great video. The zoo is creating a crazy situation all because they are run a “for profit” operation, not for the protection of an endangered species. Shabani may be kind but he is still the silverback. He can smell when the females go into estrus and he is aware of what Kiyomasa is doing. The zoo knows this very well. They have 24hr access. Kiyomasa should be removed and because of their ages Nene and Annie for different reasons could be moved together until Annie gets a silverback. Shabani is a good Silverback and has earned another fertile female. Ai might do better without the influence of her mother and brother. The international community involved in the protection of gorillas would help these Japanese zoos relocate gorillas in a heartbeat. It’s only greed that is stopping it.

I feel like people need to calm down. All Silverbacks in the wild WILL get into some type of dominance altercations, then they move on and hopefully learn from it. Shielding Kiyo from such an altercation may be ultimately bad for him. He needs to learn to control these impulses. And do you really think Shabani will hurt his son to the point of mortally wounding him? I mean look at how well Shabani is handling it now. Dude hasn't moved to even touch Kiyo. Just warned him, and Kiyo is really overstepping. And may learn the wrong lesson from this if he is just shielded. I don't think a few nicks and scratches will hurt either of them.

Perhaps it should be reported to the public authorities in other countries that the gorillas are being mishandled. They are interbreeding and abusing each other without a chance for a better outcome that they will get appropriate mates. Nene had a plan to usurp Shabani from his leadership role for her son Kiyo. Ai is siding with her mother and brother and not her husband she has dishonoured him as a mate. If all three of them must separate because they want Kiyo to be their leader. Shabani deserves a couple of females so he can have a loyal troop.

This is gorilla behaviour. These zoo animals are not being abused. They are well looked after. However many are being abused in all kinds of developed countries, the US, Canada, including in Japan, a private zoo next to a car racing track where they are being kept in small cages and can never get away from the noise. Places like that are where to put energy. Not in a good zoo like this.

I totally agree! I wondered too if he has taken over the group albeit tenuously? It stuck me as odd that they they are refusing to let him in the room. Very territorial? At first I thought they thought he was on the attack, but it happened after that too. I love Kiyomasa. He is going to be a wonderful silverback and leader, but hopefully in the right time and place.

В дикой природе Кийо мог сам покинуть группу в поисках своей семьи или альфа- самец изгнал его из группы за плохое поведение, а самки при желании последовали за ним. Но в зоопарках у них нет выбора. Эта ситуация может плохо закончиться. У Шабани огромная сила и он может при желании или в порыве необузданной ярости убить самок или сына. Такие случаи в зоопарках были и что тогда?

Шабани меня разочаровывает все больше и больше. Раньше в этой группе мне всегда нравились - Шабани и Энни, а остальных членов семьи я с трудом переносила. Кийо с детства был избалованным и очень похож на свою мать, которая способна на любые подлые поступки. Ай - это вообще неполноценная самка. Но Шабани своим мягким отношением к семье показал свою слабость и они не хотят его видеть своим лидером. Его брат - Хаоко правильно себя ведет, как и положено альфе и быстро всех ставит на свое место. Не думаю, когда подрастает Рики, самки могут поднять бунт против Хаоко. В семье Уинстона, когда Фрэнк стал бунтовать за право лидерства, все самки стали на сторону своего лидера, хотя он очень старый. Тем более, Фрэнк приемный ребенок и вполне мог стать новым альфа-самцом для продолжения их рода, но тем не менее, вся стая оказала уважение старому лидеру. Гориллы - удивительный мир, они, как и люди, имеют свой характер и очень интересно за ними наблюдать.

I really think Shabani needs to ante up a little. At this point, it seems as if the females are allowing Kiyomasa to provoke Shabani. I mean of course, I could be interpreting this completely wrong and it is not his fault. I'm pretty sure it's natural for gorilla troupes to side with the weak (in this case Kiyo), but Shabani needs to show the troup he's the dominant figure here. Also, I think Higashiyama zoo (or whichever zoo owns Kiyomasa) SHOULD be considering relocating Kiyo by now, otherwise he could injure another member, especially Nene. 🥶🥶

I wish I knew more about gorilla behavior. It’s frustrating because I don’t really understand the dynamics of what all is going on in the troop. It would be great if one of the zookeepers could explain why this is happening. I know Kiyo is growing up and it’s only natural to try to take over the group. Of course, their behavior must be a lot different than if they were out in the wild. Things are not ideal. Maybe Kiyo would have already been kicked out of the group. But, I think Shabani is a bit too passive. I couldn’t believe it when I saw how brazen Kiyomasa was getting. I’m afraid this may end up in a really bad fight with some of the gorillas getting hurt. Annie has the right idea, stay low and keep your head down.

This has no relation to a normal wild troop, A mother would not have her adult daughter in a troop, much less her adult grand daughter. The daughter will not over throw her mother, so the old lady stays dominant. And with no competition from other females she had neutered her daughter, mated her son and Nene herself has taken over the troop. All the zoo cares about is their science experiment of keeping nene alive for ever. So congrats zoo. You are very clever. Japanese zoos are terrible to their gorillas.

Everything that is happening is solely the zoo's fault, when they started watching Kiyo mating with Annie and her mother they said "it's okay, it's okay, it's the hormones" and the only thing they encouraged is for Kiyo to think that he was the new boss. @@leticiacirio2743 I feel like Ai will be better once Nene is gone, she won’t have to worry about being loyal to her anymore. Ai is a calm and peaceful gorilla, she seems to go out of her way to be around Shabani but never goes all the way.

Kiyo is great guy yet, blackback, almost - young - silverback. Ready to move to another zoo, to create own family in the future. Hope, he will arrive to female(s), not to a bachelor group! Take action the species coordinator in case of Kiyo (and Gentaro from Kyoto Zoo too).

Their enclosure looks like shit, literally. All over the place. How much money does it take to give them some grassy acres and a nice house instead of a concrete warehouse? These zoos are supposed to be world class? Could have fooled me.

Kyomassa precisa ir embora imediatamente para um alojamento de solteiros aprender como se vive, ele não vai ser abusado no alojamento se não apanha, Nenê precisa ser separada, não é mais nafa do Shabani, AI tambem não vai ser, coloca as duas para outro macho, e coloca duas fêmeas para o Shabani, Kyomassa e o valentão se escorando na mãe e irmã, Kyomassa já deveria ter sido removida a muito tempo, ele é muito abusado, acasalou com todas as fêmeas, para Shabani acabar com esse motim ele precisa bater e machucar bastante Kyomassa e Nenê, o Zoo quer isso? Shabani é bom, o povo confunde com fraqueza, ele não precisava passar por isso, culpa do Zoo que não teve planejamento.

So everybody needs to go and Shabani needs new females? Wouldn't it be easier to just move Shabani? It seems like the other gorillas in the troop have made their choices. Why break up a happy family?
