@@winycityfightfan Zeke’s brother Larry used to visit our high school quite often back in the early 1990s and was really cool with our basketball coach and some of the other staff members. Now Zeke has talked about embracing the love so much in Detroit that he has visited the homes of random fans in and around the city, taking them up on their dinner invitations when they see him arriving at the airport. He’s also said on different occasions that the Westside of Chicago and The City of Detroit is forever embedded in him. Zeke is our guy.

Alfre Woodard has never received the recognition that she deserves. She is such a wonderful actress. Ms. Woodard has been acting for many years. Mary Thomas is a single mother with nine children in a rough Chicago neighborhood. She struggles through poverty, resisting gangsters, violence and drugs while battling an indifferent city bureaucracy. Her children thrive under her protection, despite the dangers and temptations of their neighborhood. Mary's youngest son, Isiah Thomas, grows up to be one of the greatest players in the history of the NBA, leading the Detroit Pistons to two championships. - from IMDB 7.8

He tells his baby brother not to make the same mistake that he did by pinning all of his hopes in life on hoop dreams, but to go to school and seek things that are better and have more longevity. This was a powerful and emotional story. I think she is a very courageous woman and Mother that fought to keep her children OUT of the projects. That is truly commendable. The one thing I disagree with and think she should have done better is that she should have supported Michael in HIS dream of playing basketball. She was told by several faculty members how TALENTED MICHAEL WAS IN THAT SPORT, ect. He wasn't great academically and that's ALL she looked at. NOT EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE ABOUT SCHOOL. Micael lost all his self-esteem and ended up wandering the streets fulfilling nothing in his lif;e. She should have supported him in HIS dream and HIS achievements but maintained those standards for the other children because they thrived in education. Michael too could have and probably would have been successful in HIS OWN WAY, had his Mother supported him in that. It broke my heart to see him wandering aimlessly, feeling no-self worth and even when she saw him from the bus, she still didn.t reach out to him.

Michael didn't have the will power to go thru college basketball and further. All Michael wanted was to fly, didn't want to comply- and work hard. He inherited his mother's stubbornness. There can be many forms of stubbornness: righteous or selfishness; even pridefulness. Mrs. Thomas truly earned a crown for her righteous Motherhood. Loved the acting in this story, everyone was amazing. Alfie Woodard, DEAR, you are my favorite Actress! XO

A woman born in the projects has no fault. Did someone stick you in there and forget you? This woman lives among the men who took her people captive. Basketball is not better then accepting God given roles, loving your family and admitting that there is such a thing as enemies, and that enslavers don't become country host of any kind. You see the environment we built all over this planet, we don't build projects( noone builds projects to live in, if you can't afford to build the city you want, you live ofg the land, projects were built to out someone else in!) this false governance that took us captive put us there. Otherwise ( ours) we live in natural environments, rural or built cities of our desires. You climb out of a country that took people captive and built an economic system on them not being able to figure out how to separate and build off their own revelation, will power, divinity, morals...

God is my guide, His word and the men of my lineage. I stayed my behind on welfare and homeschooled my children as a single mother. I should of had several more husbands in line if I needed. Our subjection to your nation is temporal, but the things of God, eternal. Luke 21:24 New King James Version 24 And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. Psalm 83:3-5 King James Version 3 They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. 4 They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. 5 For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:

What a beautiful (true) story. Mrs. Thomas was intelligent enough for 10 people. Truly excellent lady, mother, and friend. She "lost" one child, Michael to the streets, but the other 8 children remained true to their mom. See what God will do with those who love him? We go through stuff, but hey. It's like a test we took in school. They have to know if we learned anything about whatever subject. It is the same when our faith is tested. We HAVE to know - do we have any? Praise you father God.
