I think it might depend on the state. Because I was raped at 12 and I'm almost 64 but about 20 years ago when I moved back home I found out my 1 rapist had his grandbabies living with him and heard he was still doing this stuff even to them and I called the state police to report him, they knew him well. But I was told I could come and still press charges against them.

Knowing what I know NOW, I might’ve saved her a lot of heartache if I hadn’t stepped in. When she was about 16, she came to me and said, “I hate her!” and I said, “No, you don’t! I was adopted out as a baby. I've since reunited with both my biological parents. Honestly... I dont recommend it. My bio mom especially was traumatic. She didn't seem to grow or mature the entire lifetime I was gone. Forever stuck in a "teenage mom" pity party (she's in her 40s now). I luckily got adopted out and lived a normal life. Meanwhile, all my siblings she kept are either addicted to drugs or have been in trouble with the law since middle school. All the warning flags were there, but I ignored them. I believed by default that she loved me and would protect me because she was my "mother." How very wrong I was. I cut contact after a specific incident and don't regret it. If you're also adopted and reading this, it's okay to want to seek out your biological family for the sake of answers. Just keep your expectations low, and DON'T feel obligated to keep them in your life afterward if they wrong you.
