Judge sentences couple in fatal dog attack

I've been waiting for this verdict. This poor woman watched her husband being killed by these vicious animals and survived the attack herself. The owners knew the dogs were dangerous and even paid hefty fines to get them released from previous attacks. These appear to be fight dogs and the couple was breeding more. They not only showed no remorse they laughed during the trial. San Antonio is about to pay big for their negligence.

I thought the case from a NYC apartment building years ago would have been ground breaking. They were breeding Cane Corso's and 2 got loose from their owner and charged after a very small, slim woman and killed her. But here we are with this case now. The animal was after the family pet , a small puppy. The woman picked up the puppy to protect it and the dog then went after her, biting and tearing her shoulder . Luckily her husband was home and heard her screams and was able to open the door and get her inside the house. She has suffered through two surgeries that I know about. She can no longer play the piano, she can no longer do her art , she can no longer even listen to the music she likes because of nerve damage which causes terrible headaches when she listens to loud music. Her entire life has been thrown into turmoil. As far as I know, nothing has been done about this dangerous dog by the municipal government. That’s a travesty.

I've owned 3 great danes in my adult life, huge dogs and they can be very territorial and defensive of the family. We fenced, we used leashes, we went to behavioral classes for large dogs, we socialized them. Its a huge responsibility to accept responsibility for a living being. @@laurafratoni7931for the pit that causes issues, there are likely 10-20 that are not aggressive. It has to do with a combination of breeding/ genetics and how the pup is raised. In fact, if memory serves me correctly, only 2 or 3 dogs from Michael Vick’s fighting group were euthanized due to aggression. Some even went on to become therapy dogs and worked with children.

If I had been the dog owner - if my dog had attacked like that, itwould have ruined my life as well as the lives of the victims. Lack of empathy, lack of conscience, lack of responsibility is the cause of so many horrors and problems in this world. The family will never get over it, but I hope with time they are able to find some peace in their lives again. A few months ago, our half SharPei/Pit bull got out of our backyard. We have a privacy fence and some how he got out. I was at work and my wife called that our dog was not there. I immediately told my Boss I have to go. My dog is out. Mann, I did not want anyone getting attacked by my dog. He really is the kindest and calmest dog you’ll ever meet. But, forget that, I can’t take any chance of not being responsible and something happening. Our pets are our responsibility and it’s sad when people don’t understand that.

I report every incident. My city has an animal control officer that will document the incident and advise the owners of the local dangerous animal ordinance, and the state's animal control laws. I have had to defend myself and my dog from snarling dogs who jumped over fences to get at my dog. Call your city office and ask if they have an animal control ordinance, and ask what they can do about the menacing dog next door. My state and city will not tolerate dangerous animals, and since the mid 2000's, every neighbor who had a snarling animal who lunged at people smartly decided it was not worth it to face potential liability. In my state, owners of dangerous pets are liable for whatever harm their animal causes. Don't put up with it, you have a right to keep yourself, your children and your pets safe.
