Fleece & Harmony

Күн бұрын

In Episode 151 we have been invaded by a marauding murder of crows. Our cherry tree was the target and now that have moved on to the red currant bush!
In this episode, we have a lot of projects to talk about. There are 2 new blocks for the Fleece and Harmony Blanket Project. There is crochet, knitting, spinning and quilting. Simone has a new project. Betsy and Kim have both brought WIP back into to circulation. We give an update on our DIY sweaters and we have one of the most beautiful Harmony Parts ever!

I've been watching the few last episodes as Betsy slowly started down the rabbit hole of spinning. Now, she's in the "hole", and I'm sure you will do very well Betsy. Love this pod cast so much, but I can't knit during the show as there is so much to look at. The three of you really brighten a day. Barbara

I look forward to each of your podcasts. Because the three of you have so much fun together, it feels like I’m sitting with a group of wonderful friends. Each of you brings a special talent that enriches all of us. Love your projects and how you support oneanother through them. Kim, if you haven’t yet started knitting the sleeves for your pink sweater, you could knit them both at the same time on the same needle and then they will be exactly the same length. I’ve done this for years and it’s a game-changer. The only tip I have is to pin them with a removable marker or light bulb pin close to the top, about an inch below your live stitches, so that you don’t turn your work until you’ve knit both sleeves…….speaking from experience😅 Take care and thanks for all the fun!

Delighted to see the story of my grandmother in your newsletter Kim. She was an intriguing personality. A little more information about the rubber boots. She wore rubber boots because she had a bunion and a hammertoe and wearing shoes was painful so she cut a hole in the rubber boot so her toe could have room.

Magnificent sunsets!!! I immediately saw a range of sunset colorways. After today's Tour de Fleece presentation, I swear those sunsets were bats hung from the galaxy!!! I love hearing and seeing the spinning. Though I won't be adding it to my skillet (as it is, I'll be buried cushioned by my knitting stash...), I will be savoring Betsy's maiden voyage, Kim's evolution into speed spinning, and Simone's happily wheeling away. A perfect trifecta. (Hmmm...I think there is a poem hidden there.) I mapped out PEI Fiber Festival and it is definitely doable for me. A mere 9 hours! I'll be saving for next year. WOOHOO Thank you for all your off-the-cuffness, creativity, inspiration, and tenaciosness. You are jewels in my life!!!

I've always refrain from spinning because I'm scared of falling in the rabbit hole, but if Betsy is learning, it becomes an incentive, let's see how she likes it. I love the way you help each other, sharing skills, Kim for the sewing, Simone for the spinning and charts, Betsy for the production line ... Wow ! Lovely sunsets, these colors just fill my heart, the music is also quite touching and soothing.

Those sunsets were spectacular! I love sunrises and sunsets! Becky, the 12 Days of Knitmas had a shawl that had the incorporated i-cord on the sides to hide carrying the yarn over multiple rows. I THINK it was 2022/2023. The shawl had 4 colors, I'm sure, because I used magenta, purple, blue and orange - all fingering. It was just 3 stitches at each side making the i-cord. Simone, that sweater looks wonderful on you. That's a very good color for you.

I’ve been wanting to comment why I love the Fiddlehead mittens. The reason why is because I have short hands and with the patterned mittens, the full pattern is longer than my hand. By adding a nice liner, knit to the length of my hand, this suggestion keeps my fingertips warm and cozy🙌

I forgot a note to Simone! Harkening back, Comfrey needs to be planted where it will stay forever. If the root is ever disturbed, it will become a field of Comfrey!! It is excellent in permaculture. Planting one next to an apple tree, it will aerate the soil with its massively long taproot. Also, the leaves can be cut for mulch...a free, living supply. Also, it is astonishing to see you on pink!! It gives you a rosy complection. Beautiful!!!

Knit the sleeves first with stripes and then match the body. Will make it easier to line up the striping of the sleeves with the body. If your fruit trees dont flower, give a 2 weekly and of course as a regular chore, dose late winter with Yates "Fruit & Flower". Not the general brand. My pear hadn't flowered for 10 years from the time of planting. After regular dosing, now have an abundance of fruit every year. The sunsets in the southern hemisphere for winter have been amazing. But still not enough rain.

For the fiber festival, I would love to have a crochet workshop on colorwork, not color theory or granny squares or flowers which are relatively simple to do but doing crochet colorwork patterns and intarsia-like techniques in crochet. I’m a knitter but I’m going to tackle the Nauris Tote Bag by Molla Mills, a Finnish designer - Molla has fantastic modern colorwork crochet, many captured in her book Crochet Crush. Or Betsy, how about your crochet flower designer? That would be great too! I did get into Simone’s drop spindle class so super excited for that! Also, just a thought, I wouldn’t mind virtual instruction in a group doing the same so I could learn from others, especially if there were live helpers in the room. (Maybe with a bit of a price adjustment due to the instructor not being there live?) looking forward to October !

Always love watching to see all your lovely knitting & crocheting. Betsy your bouquet is looking beautiful, need to make some too. Kim, I'm wondering about something you mentioned on a few podcasts ago regarding being able to download all the months of the blanket, and saves you from having to send individually per month to all the folks wanting the PDF. I'm not sure how you go about doing that? I looked on Ravelry to see if I could just put it in my library and then each month the new patterns would then be added, but there is no option to do that. Thank you ladies for all your talent you share, it is so inspiring. 🤗

I was referring to folks that are joining in now and are ordering all of the squares that have been launched so far. Many are ordering each month's squares on separate orders: an order for January, a new order for February, etc. There isn't a way to get August - December. The blocks are only revealed one month at a time. You did exactly the right thing!

Hi Starr! I’m so excited that you’re starting on Rioux! I used dpns to start mine and tiny stitch markers to help keep things separated and in order in my head. I’m a little bit fiddley with the dpns but it was the option that worked best for me. The stitch markers were the game changer. They definitely helped me keep proper count. Best of luck with your project and I hope I get to see it!

@@sandandskycreations6263 I finally managed it after umpteen dozen tries. Magic loop ended up working in the end for me, I got a little farther each time, lol! I posted a picture of my progress so far on Instagram yesterday. Loving it so far!

Contact the Woolery in Lexington Kentucky for parts for old spinning wheels. Also is it less expensive to ship from Toronto to PEI than shipping from the US?

Put bird netting over your cherry tree, that's what orchards in my area of nh do.

Yes we discussed that but they ate them while they were still green. We were too late!

Yes - we found out that discussing covering it with bird net doesn't help - which we did for three days before they stripped the tree!

@@FleeceHarmonyPodcast yep, unless you secure it tightly around it trunk they fly right up under and feast away. Dang birds. But they are a necessity in most cases.

Great episode. Which colour in the fiddlehead mitts is being retired? I couldn't catch the name

They were made with Roseberry Rambouillet yarn. We won't be making anymore. We have colours left but not the Crocus or Amethyst Brooch. You could make mittens in the rambouillet in other colours. Or make them with Selkirk Worsted in Crocus and Amethyst Brooch.

Great podcast ladies. I did want to pass on a tidbit of info I heard about from my spinning group as a few members heard about this from our local guild…. they tried it and it works like a hot you know what. For fibre that has been around for a while and may have compressed some what you can steam it comes back to life and ease of spinning. I looked for a video and found info on it in youtube I will put a paste of it here as I couldn’t seem to find the easy link kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5erZWV5qdaHpJosi=RyByddqjn_-5J7RI. I hope this works if not let me know
