A Musical Journey Of The Soul | Maati Baani & Guilhem Desq | TEDxGateway

This performance piece is a collaboration between the Indian duo Maati Baani and French Hurdy-Gurdy player, Guilhem Desq.
Maati Baani is a music duo formed by Music Composer/Producer Kartik Shah and Indian Classical Vocalist Nirali Kartik. Till now they have collaborated with over 150 artistes across the world and are known as the contemporary sound of traditional India. Their songs feature street musicians, famous KZbinrs, Folk artistes from different countries and also rare and endangered traditions of music. Together they are redefining collaborations in music with their unique approach of creating music - over the internet.
They find musicians online, co-create a piece together without meeting the musicians in person with the help of skype rehearsals and studio technology. Their aim is to create a song in every country of the world!
Guilhem Desq is an electric 'hurdy gurdy' player from France, offering a surprising journey around his unusual instrument. Although he draws his energy from his instrument’s tradition, he gets his inspiration mainly from modern music and improvisation.

One of the most amazing pieces I have heard in my life. I was in a cafe in Jaipur when I first heard the song "Bulma". Then I searched for the song and got addicted to "Maati Bani". But this one is totally out of this world. That "hurdy-gurdy" is like "violin-harmionum-electric guitar" all in one.

no, some hurdy gurdys can be pluged like an electric guitar ;) so you can do some awesome things with them, the real drawbacks of these instruments is the drastic maintenance level needed and obviously the price, a good hurdy gurdy cost around 5000$ and a basic one 1000$ under this range of price you wont get anything good .....
