Excellent presentation Tim. You are a natural in front of a Camara. Difficult to believe that you really aren't extroverted by nature you seem to communicate with people so easily. They're able to connect to you effortlessly. I completely enjoyed your bio here. I'm going on 72 and back in my twenties made the rounds up and down Broadway. I started playing in bands in 8th grade for school dances and parties near Detroit. I hit Nashville at about 21 or 22. Glad to have had the experience but my path lay elsewhere. Today I play with a group of accomplished senior musicians and we have a blast. We play Rock,Country,Blues,Jazz,Pop. We're all retired so we have lots of time doing what we really love doing. Playing dances and parties again! I watch just about all that you put out. Great content. I'm open to whatever you want to share on here. I hope continued success keeps coming your way. Peace.

Hi Tim. Cool story. Weird but it seems that in life if one is clear where they want to end up...the path somehow reveals itself and unfolds. Once clear on where you are going, simply do what comes next (with eyes & EARS open). Peace from Toronto. PS. I don't typically communicate with KZbinrs, but being in the latter part of my musical 'arc', it's fun to watch someone young and eager on the scene, developing as a player/performer. One of the new Nashville Cats. 💙

I know so many stories of musicians who have been grinding it for years and still have not truly made it. Nashville can break you if let it. I also know people who are now wildly successful, I think the quality and quantity of the effort is what propels people forward.

It's fun to see how you entered the music business basically as a kid! I started playing acoustic at about 14 and when I was 19 and working at a factory I got drafted into the army. This was 1970. This changed my life. Now at 74 and retired I hit open Mics a lot and have a small KZbin site where I cover songs and some originals. A sailing site uses one of my songs (sailing into freedom episode 265). I also jam with several groups where we winter in Arizona. Keep up the good work Tim. It is fun to watch your career blossom. Burlington Bill busking on the road and here on KZbin.

You definitely made the right choice about looking back, having never tried. I'm currently 49. Now I know me. I was too timid back then, and the way I say it is, I wasn't willing to live in my car. I wouldn't have made it, not because I couldn't play but that I didn't have that fire. A minor regret, but I'm very happy you're doing it. You seem like a great guy. Keep up the good work.

Tim, this was an amazing video and story. And you are a terrific storyteller. I'm not someone who will be trying my luck in Nashville (I'm way past that age-wise, among other things). But I love hearing about it from someone who has been through it and is now going through the next level. Thank you for sharing. Something I'd love to hear more about - learning songs. You talk about having to learn 50 songs for the gigs in Virginia in 3 days of cramming. Notes and charts written out to help you learn the songs. But, did you have those charts on an iPhone or iPad on stage to help you play them, or somehow did you memorize all that stuff in 3 days? That seems like a Herculean task. Maybe sometime you could do a video on the process of learning songs for a gig. Cheers.

Great video Tim. It’s very interesting to someone like me who went to Nashville in a band and never caught any traction or really went anywhere. This was early 80’s. This reminds me of what getting gigs as a band is like now. We don’t have a manager or booking agent so I end up doing everything since I’m retired from the Army and have the most time available. I spend lots of time on instagram and Facebook contacting owners. I guess I need to step it up on TikTok. It’s a frustrating situation. I’m glad you stuck with it and am making it now. Most of the guys I know that play music full time had early major financial support from a spouse, parent etc… they’re the ones able to go on tour and be able to do day and night work. The guys that are working 9 to 5 barely make enough to pay bills. They have zero money for gear. I’ve seen moderate guys with heavy financial support be successful and amazing musicians that had to work eight hours a day to survive, fizzle out, because working to keep a roof over their head caused them to miss out on opportunities. Gigs are not steady money buy if someone has financial support they can be ok and be fairly successful.

At first I was like, “Holy shit! I can’t believe they hired you off Tiktok!” But the more you think about it the more sense it makes. This is usually an audition type job. The hiring band might not know anything about you except for what they learned at the audition. You documenting yourself on TikTok streamlined the “get to know you” part. They already kinda knew you. They got a behind the scenes look at a possible band mate. If that makes sense.
