A New Arkham VR Game... Batman: Arkham Shadow Announcement Trailer (My Thoughts and Reaction)

I’m curious, why do so many flat gamers hate VR? Many of them have never even played a good VR game before or VR at all. The people in the VR community have a burning passion for VR and something like this is absolutely huge to us, and it’s really upsetting to see so many people hating on it when it’s being developed by a VR studio. A great studio by the way, it’s one of Metas First Party Studios. No hate or anything, we are used to it but I’d be lying if I said I understand it. Just curious.

I can only speak for myself, but it's because of the genre shift. The style of the Arkham games is so iconic and addicting that it's still being copied to this day (successfully and poorly). Not to mention this is the first Arkham game we've gotten in a hot minute and it's disappointing to see that they're going this route instead of utilizing what the fanbase (and myself) like about the games. I think it would be different if they did what RE is doing where it's an additional feature on top of the base game. It is also unfortunate that I do have a VR but from my understanding because I have a Quest 2 I won't be able to play it :/ there's no hate on VR for me, i just wish we got another Arkham game with the same style as the other games

@@AntonioRedgrave I just mean the overall tone, everyone is always like “it’s a VR game” but for us “ITS A VR GAME!!” Lol. We have seen the story time and time again, Assassin’s Creed fans furious, games comes out “this is the best thing AC has done in 10 years” Half Life fans “omg are you kidding me” Plays Alyx, “one of the greatest gaming experiences of all time”. I get the exclusivity issue, but this is only the second first party exclusive ever locked to the Quest platform since the Quest platform has been around. Everyone who bought a Quest 3 was furious because there was no reasons to actually have one, now there is. This is a big deal for VR and it’s because it’s a franchise that is loved by so many. VR is growing every year and more consistently we’re getting full games like Asgards Wrath 2 a 100+ hour RPG for example. Many of the IPs are VR IPs so many people from the outside don’t know them even though the unknown IPs are some of the best games in VR. A large majority of VR gamers play traditional games and love it, pretend like we understand the people who don’t like it but we don’t. We think VR is magical and amazing, and if more people knew how great games VR had to offer. I think people would have a different perspective on VR. We see it all the time, people come from flat gaming and after some research, they find out that they were totally wrong about VR. It’s taking a while for us to grow, but every year we gain millions of new VR users. I just hope that someday we see a shift, and that’s what games like this are truly for. I don’t think VR would be trying to take your IPs if the mainstream gaming audience actually respected the IPs that we do have. I really do hope that you get a Quest 3 and play this game, because the studio is very talented and they WILL do your game justice. The same disappointment that you feel not getting your Arkham game is the same disappointment that we feel when we see everyone so negative about VR. It’s such a shame 😭 we feel like the redheaded step child 😂 LOVE US

I agree they're kinda coming off as crybabies 😂 like even the quest 2 guys are crying because the devs want to expand and utilize the power of the 3 rather than keep putting out limited content on the previous gen headsets. VR is the future of gaming so don't get mad when AAA games want to take a break from flat games

I’m sorry but do you have a VR console? Well if you do then you would not be able to play it if it isn’t a Quest 3. And now, would you pay around $500 USD or more just to play a single game in which might not be as long as the other games or as good in terms of narrative and gameplay? That’s the point of the hate, is not the VR, is that is an EXCLUSIVE for ANOTHER CONSOLE that most people don’t have. Whether because they don’t like VR games or because they don’t want or can spend that much money on a single console that would eventually accumulate dust after you play it a couple of times. Is not worth it, you would just waste your money. And if by some miracle you have it and you play it, then congratulations for falling into the marketing campaign and for hoping for a sequel or more development that will never come.

People are bitching way too much about this. As for the timeline placement, it makes no sense that this takes place after Knight considering that the suit looks like a hybrid of Origins and Ayslum and RatCATCHER is still kicking in Gotham. He's no where to be seen in Knight so its most likely a bridge between that time gap.

My B on getting Ratcatcher's name wrong, and I also totally forgot he died so you might be right if that's what they're alluding to. I think the complaining is appropriate to express that this isn't what we want from the Arkham series, and the like to dislike ratio is a big indicator that people do not want another VR game after all these years.

I don't care for the game, but I feel like most of the dislike comes from how they went about showing it. Try to understand from their perspective. From it's title, no one would have expected it to be VR until they clicked on the video. They were filled with hype and excitement only for it to be demolished with significant disappointment in less than 10 seconds. There's some people in the world who don't care about VR, some who can't play VR because of health conditions, some who can't afford VR or simply don't have enough space in their room. These are completely understandable and valid reasons and we shouldn't bash on them for it. I mean, who would want to get a Meta Quest 3 just for one game? I don't know, maybe if they named it Arkham Shadow VR, the massive dislike for this wouldn't have been so severe. I'm sure it'll be a fine game, probably even better than Suicide Squad, but I personally don't see myself playing it.

I’m fine with Arkham Shadow being a VR game, What I don’t like is that its an exclusive for the Quest 3, if this wasn’t an exclusive I feel like the negative backlash wouldn’t be as big.

This was made specifically for investors and to test the tech of VR. The unfortunate part is that Arkham Shadow was chosen which directly conflicts with average consumers. Even worse with SSKTJL And even worse worse, the next Batman has already been identified without Kevin Conroy and not public disclosure has been given on it. Facebook/Meta has almost absolute given Warner Bros a huge pot of money to make a game and this ended up being it. Consumers are being completely disrespected because investors and big tech are funding these companies. Doesn’t surprise me after they said they’re doubling down on SSKTJL type games and now we get this. They don’t need our money, they’re already funded. So our opinions don’t matter.

I grew up playing the Arkham games and i was obsessed with them. When Arkham VR came out on the ps4 and I thought it was great. Super short, but it looked and felt great to play. Mind you, that was the most recent Arkham game. But there is absolutely no way from a business standpoint that this new VR game will generate anywhere near close to the amount of revenue that a “flat” Arkham game would generate. Not to mention it’s probably booty (apologies for the rant)

The quest 3 is a great system. Its the definitive VR game console. Every console has had exclusives, this isnt different. The argument i can make is to just own as many systems as you want. The hate makes no sense, either save up and get a quest 3 or don't. Thats how it'll go anyway. Now is a great time to hop into the VR space, since its accessible and the quest 3 on paper could run graphically similar to a PS4, so its not as "mobile gamey" as the quest 2.

Haters are gonna hate. I love VR and I'm pumped for this game along with the new Alien and Metro Awakening. Flat screen gamers seem to be getting very entitled. I can't wait to play this. I loved Iron Man VR so I'm really looking forward to this.

I think a lot of people are missing the main criticism; It's not because it's a VR game with Batman, it's because it's an *Arkham* game that's once again a VR exclusive. It's a complete genre shift that takes away a core aspect of why people enjoy this series, and a very justifiable reason to express their problems with it. If this was just a regular Batman game that had no connection to the Arkham series, people would not be complaining about it.

I completely understand that. Perhaps what I'm trying to get at is more general in purpose. Sony, Xbox, Nintendo have a huge collection of games and many exclusives. Compared to those companies VR is very young and doesn't have any real blockbuster exclusives. I feel while this game might upset many since it's a quest 3 exclusive I also feel it could open the door to many that want to try VR out. Especially if the game ends up being a success. I understand the uproar with those a little frustrated but for the Die hard VR users like myself and many across the world this is a pretty cool moment to be getting a high profile game like Batman exclusively for the VR.

I have a PCVR headset and also won't be able to play it. That's the kind of stupidity that makes me not excited for it. I think I'd rather get rid of the headset I have than buy the Quest 3 just because a corporation just decided I gotta.

Looking at the suit Batman is wearing in this teaser this game is set in between Origins and Asylum. Ratcatcher was still alive during that time period.
