When playing as Norway, try to declare wars even when you're not ready to conquer cities yet, since the coastal raids bonuses can get you a nice boost to culture and science and some free builders/settlers. Also, Stave Churches provide additional adjacency bonuses from woods next to holy sites, so try to avoid chopping them. Should've sold the salt to Germany for flat gold and declared war on them, instead of risking the Scout for that extra gold. But hey, thx for the video, excited to see what comes next! Why aren't barb camps spawning right outside his city constantly? Why aren't the AI rushing units and declaring surprise war? Are we playing the same game?

Sometimes it doesn't happen, but when it does 2 slingers and a warrior is all I need to stop them, even against horseman. That's why I never train scouts.

You basically only need a few units and to be strategic with them, the AI is terrible and you can easily exploit what they tend to do. Also, with the AI, if your army is big enough, they usually won’t declare war on you, on Deity however you pretty never can make the right size army quickly enough to prevent this. As for Barbarians, I don’t play with them on usually, there’s no consistency with them, some games you get almost no Barbarians, and some you get a new camp every 10 turns, there’s basically not much you can do about that, besides playing without Barbarians or restarting when they get ridiculous. This (playing without them) of course bars you from adequately using civs and abilities that rely on Barbs though. Just watch what this guy does, since watching his videos I can play on Deity in Civ 6 (I did used to play Deity in Civ V ages ago though) He plays the game totally different from how I always did, I basically would just play as being country and tried to focus on being a good country, victory and the mechanics of the game were always secondary considerations, now I play it like I’m playing chess and try to have a plan for my game and really focus more on the game mechanics themselves, rather than just their fruits. (For example instead of randomly noticing a good spot for my industrial zone and placing it there, I try to plan out good spots for industrial zones, notice all the pins and planning this guy does, that’s key to having a crazy good game, he’s always thinking like 50 and 100 turns ahead) Before the AI declares war, try to have a few slingers or archers, and try to have a second city, along with a strategic battle plan for if you get invaded, that should be enough to survive.

@@democracydignityhumanrights Oh Barbs, I remember Spain declaring war on me on turn 50 and right after that 2 barb camps spawning beside me spawning about 8 barb 2 swordman and the rest crossbow man. Somehow mamaged to survive and even take a spanish city, but right after that Nubia came to me whit cruirasseirs(she had 300 science for some reason), and somehow I STILL survived and during that war Spain ALSO attacked me again whit a bunch of their unice units and crossbowman. STILL fucking somehow survived that pushed back, raized all spanish city because fuck him, then resettled his land. Lost the game, but to me I actually won.

I never understand people moaning about barbs, you just build military and take the gold and era score + upgrades on your units... like others have said the higher your army score the bigger deterrent for the ai to attack plus relationships ai tendencies and an element of randomness play a factor it’s pretty balanced as pretty much exactly as the game SHOULD be. Think the argument is just “I can’t handle it cos it’s hard”

What you on about, Norway is amazing! The longboats are excellent for farming culture and science off of enemy coastal tiles, and the free embarking/disembarking is really useful.

Always go for a Pantheon on current patch. In 70% of your games you get Religious Settlements which is a much greater return on investment.

How exactly does game and map seed work? A few days ago, I screwed up a beginning of a game, so I copied the Map seed and Game seed, set up everything exactly the same, but I started in a different position of the map. How come you started exactly in the same position as the first time? Edit: I just found out. In the game menu you can see the map seed and game seed, but in the game set up, these numbers are swapped, so I entered Game seed into Map seed slot and Map seed into Game seed slot. (Leaving this here in case it's helpful for someone else.)

Norway is my go to civ. Right off the bat I start exploring land with scouts and exploring coasts with longboats to nab all the coastal goody huts and isolated CSs. You gotta focus on coastal military expansion in the early game with longboats and continental or coastal expansion in the mid game with berserkers. I also go for high faith per turn with holy sites (even if I don't go for a religion) in order to use monumentality and to buy land units with the grand master's chapel (which also gives bonus faith for pillaging), and to build stave churches. I settle near sea resources and get the god of the sea pantheon to give an extra 2 production for each sea resource. Declare war and pillage as much as possible even if you don't have the capability to take any cities. Once I have celestial navigation I build the great lighthouse, and then with shipbuilding I will start colonizing the far flung, uninhabited areas of the map with the settlers I get from monumentality. Haven't lost a game with Norway yet. Well . . . unless I don't start near the coast; then I'm pretty much fucked.

My best deity play as Norway was going longboats, and pillaging neighbors so badly that they couldn’t score a religion. After taking their coastal cities, I got a religion of my own on turn 110 off their stolen holy sites. Then I conquered half their cities and converted half their cities for a turn 200 religious victory.

I keep seeing PotatoMcWhiskey keeps aying that building a slinger boosts Archery. It doesn't. To boost archery you have to kill a unit with a slinger, which is, relatively tough, as they are incredibly weak units in defense.

Only 2 tiles would be needed for canals to conect lake retba and kristiansand. Maybe consider saving them up in case you go for heavy naval

Does that work? I don't think naval units can cross natural wonders. Then again, the tool tip to Lake Retba doesn't say that it's impassable....

@@blafoon93 well ålesund seems to connect to it atleast. Not sure if boats can go there though haven't tested. At one point i may have noticed his builder tried to embark to the lake so it should be passable

@@Raqdolll even if land units can embark, I don't know if canals can connect to natural wonders and God only knows what kind of spaghetti code is behind some of these wonders, so even if you can build canals I still wouldn't be too certain that boats can cross that lake. I've seen the weirdest bugs with the natural wonders that appear as lake.
