Two years later and this video continues to age like fine wine. Look at the 2022 Dodgers: as I'm writing this, they're on pace to win 113 games, and they're doing it with a bunch of castaway pitchers no other teams wanted while half of their homegrown starters (Kershaw, Buehler) are hurt. It really does show that having the right people behind the scenes doing the dirty work is the key to consistent, sustained success.
@seththomas5144 жыл бұрын
Really good video. Even though the Dodgers haven’t won a WS with their improved ownership, they are putting themselves in position to do so every year, which will be better in the long run than a team that wins it and dips/stagnates.

I remember I started watching full games right when puig came up. It wasn’t a good season early on but wow I started seeing the impact that Puig had and his spark was over enough to make the whole dodgers go on winning streaks and it reeled me in like a fish and since then I haven’t stopped watching dodgers. Before I was just one of those dodgers fans that didn’t know nothing just like kemp and Kershaw. Even Jansen wasn’t really good early on in 2013 but he just became one of the best closer right before our eyes.

Hanley Ramirez came back from injury as well, right when Puig came up. And that team was 30-42 at the time, and 50 games later... 72-50. Just crazy how much fun that was. And yet, somehow, 42-8 over 50 games isn't even the Dodgers' best 50 game stretch. In 2017, they went 43-7 at one point, 51-9 over 60.

As a Dodgers fan, I love how solid the team is and every year it feels like we have a chance. However it always that one team was just better for that year. The past four years it truly been hurt break to see us losing to the World Series winner. Reminds me of the Brooklyn Dodgers of the 50s. A good team that cant win because someone else was better than you. “Wait til next year.” It shows on how do you want it: you can be good for a long time and have a chance or do you want to go all on one year. Baseball gods can be fair or foul. I just want to see them win it.

Dodgers really should win it in 2020 if there is a season. With David Price and Mookie Betts adding to an already great team that didn't lose any big pieces besides Ryu, and has Gavin Lux set to play his first full season, there's just no team that it makes sense could realistically be better than the Dodgers.

You know how things rise and fall in baseball. When I was a kid (a long f'ing time ago) I lived in Boston and envied the Os almost to the point of hate because they always, always were in the Series or close to it, and won a few as well. They had a solid farm system that produced ace starters every few years, who came to the Show already having 3 good pitches. They had power hitters. As Earl Weaver said, "pitching and 3-run homers." In the WS 66, 69, 70, 71, 79, 83, won three of those. People forget that now but that was an impressive run spanning 3 decades. Keep rooting, maybe it will come around again. I was 49 by the time my Sox actually won one.

Hear me out I know nobody is gonna feel bad for us because we’re the dodgers and we often have great players compared to other teams (even tho I don’t necessarily agree with the “ you buy everyone “ since we had the most home grown players the last few years ) but does anyone else feel like we’re cursed? Matt Kemp deserves an mvp... loses to a cheater. Dodgers best team ive ever seen in my life... lose in 7 games to cheater. I’m not even gonna count 2018 cause tbh that dodger team had no business in the WS and I think the redsox were the better team and they weren’t cheating in the playoffs. 2019 we finally get the ASG back in LA after 40 years. Somehow mlb hadn’t brought back the ASG to LA in 40 years meanwhile some teams have gotten it twice and it gets canceled cause a dude eats a bat . We also trade for Mookie betts and put together one of the scariest teams on paper and it’s cut down to 60 games and a lot of people will probably give us shit even if we do end up winning. Too much to not start considering us maybe cursed ..
@rftulie4 жыл бұрын
Not cursed. It just shows how hard it is to win a WS. It is very difficult, because chances are you have just as good a club in the other dugout -- they survived to that point as well (and that goes for the Astros in '17 as well, even though they stole signs). It's like if you flip a coin and it keeps coming up tails five-six times in a row. Doesn't mean it's rigged, just a small enough sample. And as for money, that's baseball's problem, not the Dodgers'. Clubs that can spend more can do more. That's just the way MLB is currently structured.

I'm a Braves fan who is really grateful to the Dodgers org. Alex Anthopoulos was revolutionized by the Dodgers. When he was in Toronto, Anthopoulos had gained a reputation for making big trades. He even got the nickname The Gunslinger. The Braves brought him over from the Dodgers and everyone thought the Gunslinger would be at it again but that Alex Anthopoulos never showed up. He allowed his young talent to mature and be productive, he revamped the analytical dept and restructured the pipe line. I wasn't able to learn much about just what he did but I would assume he took the ship in the route of the Dodgers. The Braves are even beneficiaries of what the Dodgers are doing.

Loved this video. This may just be my own ignorance on the subject, but if this is *the* model of what a well run organization looks like, what exactly do teams need to do to emulate it? I totally agree it’s not all about money, as there are many other factors that you talked about contributing to their success. But I still feel like the money is a big part that many other teams don’t have access to. Or maybe it’s just other owners being too greedy/stingy. Idk. Maybe it comes down to the fact that Dodgers ownership just “cares” more? For example: the better scouts, better nutrition, better coaches at every level, better work environment, etc.. I know that’s a bit generalized, but when owners are far more focused on ticket sales, TV deals, and stadium beer prices, it’s easy to think they don’t really care as much as an ownership group who actually INVESTS in its team, it’s players, and it’s future. And if we’ve learned anything from the past few months of negotiations, the sport could benefit greatly from better ownership across the board.

The one thing money cannot buy is the clutch gene. 2013: Facing elimination they had their ace in Kershaw on the mound. What happened? Kershaw got rocked and gave up 7 ER the Dodgers got shutout and eliminated. 2014: Kershaw implodes in game 1 of the series giving up 8 ER. Facing elimination in game 4 with their ace in Kershaw in the mound leading 2-0 in the 7th. Kershaw gives up a 3-run homerun to Matt Adams. The Dodgers don’t score for the rest of the game and are eliminated. 2015: In the deciding game 5 with Cy Young candidate Zack Greinke who had the leagues lowest ERA on the mound. Greinke gave up 3 ER which isn’t bad but the Dodgers were only to put up 2 runs and didn’t get a hit after the 6th inning. To put those 3 ER into perspective during the regular season Greinke had just 6 games were he let a team scored 3+ ER. 2016: Kershaw is on the mound again in another elimination game and at just like 2013 he along with the offense didn’t show up. Kershaw gave up 4 ER and the Dodgers could only muster up 2 hits all game. 2017: Dave Roberts made a poor choice deciding to let Yu Darvish take the mound in the deciding game 7 of the WS. The last time Darvish pitched he only lasted 1.2 innings. Ironically Darvish only last 1.2 innings again gave up 4 ER and the Dodger offense couldn’t do much against the Astros pitching. 2018: The Dodger bullpen blew game 4 and a chance to even up the series because they as a group they gave up 8 ER. In an elimination game with all the momentum on the Red Sox side who does Dave Roberts give the ball? Kershaw who unsurprisingly give up 4 ER as the Dodgers lose back to back WS. 2019: With a chance to win the leading 2-1 in the NLDS with a chance to win Dave Roberts decides not to play a conventially like any manager would. Roberts decides to turn it into a bullpen game. Roberts didn’t let any pitcher in the game go longer than 3 innings. With a chance to win the deciding game 5 leading 3-1 Roberts decides to go to the bullpen with Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto due up. How does Roberts go with out of the pen? KERSHAW! Who gave up back to back homeruns to tie the game. In extras instead of taking out Joe Kelly he left him. Kelly would give up a grandslam and the Dodgers having lost all momentum didn’t even get a hit in the bottom of the 10th.

Kind of weird how there's not one mention of Andrew Friedman. He's the mastermind behind all this.

They even did all of this without ever blowing it up and rebuilding.

You should make the video on how other owners can resemble their tactics

Watching it, after Todd B. and his friends acquired Chelsea FC and days after Tommy Tuchel was sacked.. This seems that'll be good.

I may be a Dodger fan but I'm also a fan of a hockey team (Kings) that is a lot like the SF Giants - bad now, but multiple random title runs earlier in the decade. I'd rather have what the Giants had.
