I think what's happening here is less like "revived" and more like "transcended the mortal plane" or something. It's wild, but the only way for this game to be all that it could be was to die and become abandonware, so it could exist in a legal grey area. There is no shot that this customs/modding thing would have been tolerated in an active, paid-for product subject to the insane whims of music copyright laws and bound by official licensing deals.
