Excellent work around -I like the fact that you designed and built your own solution. I've just started using a pair of Benchdogs " Rail dogs" . I notice you use a rail square in conjunction with a fence and flag stop (which I also have ) . What do you see as the pros and cons of rail square versus rail dog method? Great video .
@Smallbarnworkshop2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind comments. The downside of the square set up like this Is he amount of time it takes to change the set up to different heights. I do think your percentage of square cuts will be higher with the square though as there is nothing to slip. Regards JP
@PrimaryInt2 жыл бұрын
@@Smallbarnworkshop its interesting to hear your point about accuracy - I have not used the Raildog much but I've been disappointed to some degree - as you suggest, there's quite a few ways to get out of square - loose dog/MFT fitting and movement in the rail . In my work the workpiece thickness doesn't change that much so I suspect the rail square would be better - short of buying a stool MFT with the related extrusions I am toying with the idea of buying the extrusion and rail hinge components as spares to see how it works out - in process of pricing up at the moment - don't think I can justify buying a ready made festool MFT with the rail hinge hardware etc... .

Yet another beautiful and well explained build. Really helpful for us newbies who have limited workspace, thanks for sharing. Now though I have more items on my jig envy list... Re. the routed T-tracks- love the idea but wondering how durable they are? Until now I've been assuming that I'd have to use aluminium extrusions for precision/durability. On a production note (as opposed to criticism), the music soundtrack in this particular vid is waaay louder than your vocal track, so I have to ride the volume looking at woodwork porn whilst she's asleep... All the best & look forward to your next. Cheers!
@Smallbarnworkshop2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind comments. In terms of the volume levels, noted, thank you. I will look at that going forward. Maybe a tweak in the settings of the editing software or a manual tweak. There is loads to learn with this editing malarky. You wouldn't believe the hours of YT videosI I have watch on the subject! (and money I have spend on kit!!) I have had no T groove issues with timber - yet. I bought is to make the T grooves on the router table and that was (maybe) 3 years ago. My total respect to you on working within such a confined space. At one point, my only workshop was the patio and I had to haul all the equipment in and out. But that was, at least all ground level whilst you have to contend with ladders and, presumably, stairs. A word of caution - suddenly, over a space of a couple of years, my ability to lift, move and raise larger pieces of timber went from easy to impossible. The solution for you is simple - a lift. Get planning now. I have but one question. How do you accommodate different thicknesses of timber when cutting them square on your new build. I’m guessing that it’s only sheet goods that you need the square for but how to accommodate 3mm, 6mm, 18mm etc - or is it as simple as raising or lowering the dogs in their holes?
@Smallbarnworkshop2 жыл бұрын
The square is adjustable. From zero to 50mm thickness. I have it set at 21mm as I mostly use inch by xxx timber. Regards JP

Crazy that the Parf System kit is £200 on top of the cost of buying whatever material you need to make holes in, especially when you consider that you can buy pre-CNC made tops online for about £60-80 inc delivery. £200 + sheet of material + time spent learning and using said guide system seems like time/money not well spent.
