“My mum and dad told me Syria is very big and beautiful, it is green and has a lot of flowers, and there is a sea. I hope to visit Syria,” says 9-year-old Ghina.
She is a Syrian refugee born in Jordan.
“I love my school, my mum and dad, and I love going to school. I dream of growing up and becoming a lawyer,” she says.
For over a decade, Jordan has been a beacon of hope for hundreds of thousands of Syrians fleeing war. Today, the country hosts over 640,000 registered Syrian refugees, half of whom are children.
Since 2011, over 212,000 Syrian refugees have been born in Jordan.
The first generation of Syrian refugees knows no other home, a number that grows each month, with an average 120,000 new births registered in 2023.
