I've NEVER played the original Final Fantasy VII nor Crisis Core. I am going in absolutely blind, no spoilers, not live and no chat. It's just me and the game! I can see that it is overwhelming and probably unexpected. This is kinda how it is in FF7 too. Midgar is a linear experience and then when you leave there's more choices and ways to go. I'm certain you'll get used to it. I like most of the additions but I'm finding the synergy stuff a little tricky to manage and some of the additions are just kinda unneeded. But it's good!

Whimsy you're killing me here! You make wanna discuss those theories with you so badly 🤣 Very interesting takes. You're gonna have so much fun with this story! Don't be too concerned about crafting, it's the easiest I've seen in any game so far. Also this is technically not an open world as you may know it from Elden Ring or other games. You can explore the world on your own if you wish. You may find some hidden objects here and there. But otherwise the exploration is very much task bound here. This gives a meaning to the time you invest and helps you grow your experience, bonding etc. So I'd rather call it semi open, like it was in the OG. They recreated exactly what they did in the OG. First you're in Midgar, where everything is narrow and linear and then you come out of there and find yourself in midst of a huge world. This game is huge but don't get discouraged by the size and the amount of stuff you can do. The main story is still worth playing it. From what I've seen so far they did an exceptional job.

UI tip: When you're doing anything with the characters like equipping, upgrading, etc, there's an option to cycle through the character roster instead of backing out of the menu and choosing them individually. The button shortcut is L2/R2 (cycle left/right) Example: 1:13:55 - When you were upgrading Tifa, if you look at the TOP-LEFT side of the screen (right of her portrait/below her name) there are 5 dots you can cycle through with L2/R2

Can't wait to see this playthrough. I'm a little over 40 hours in and think I'm maybe? around the half way point. I gotta say I hope you plan to do everything as far as the story content goes pretty much everything even stuff that seems like not particularly important side content has really interesting stories and character moments that come with it. I usually end up with open world games getting a hit bored with some of the "open world filler" (think all the ?'s in Witcher 3) but here they do a really good job of making most of it engaging with surprisingly detailed stories or at least tying actually useful rewards to it. Plus it helps that the world is beautiful and I'm happy for any excuse to just walk around in it. (And any excuse to engage with the amazing combat system!) The real surprise for me has been Queensblood. Even if you end up editing out the actual matches I hope you do them all. All I will say is so far its a lot more than I was expecting from when they introduced it.

I had the same thought with the graphics at the beginning, but I also do 3d modeling work and I know that an open world game this big has to be very careful with the amount of polygons used for character models and such. With that being said though? I still think this is one of the most beautiful open world games. If I remember correctly though, remake looks a lot better today then when it first came out so I too think graphics will be optimized as we go

I swear you have the best theories from the first time players! Others say you can date everyone, but Cloud is not a player or womanizer, I love picking one route and sticking to it. YES!!! MOAAAR FF! Whims, you're the perfect cut for this: Your brains, your atention to detail and your wit... OOOFFFF *cheffs kiss* . (i don't know if you'll read this thing but here we go) WITHOUT SPOILING: If you ever decide to play or watch a video of the story of "Crisis Core", that would give you another point of view of FFVII. Again, NO SPOILERS, The protagonist of it is Zack, so that would mabe give you more pieces of puzzle to work with than the ones that you already have. Still, even I, after playing the OG every a couple of years, i can't stop theorizing what's going on, and i'm 32 (if i remember correctly) hours into it. Now , in all seriousness, i think you're doing an excelent job, and by the looks of it, this is a game that's gonna , if not already, win your top 3 games you love the most. Don't worry about taking your time, doing whatever you want, exploring everything and even hearing every NPC dialogue, as a viewer of you and in this case a fan of FFVII, you can't fathom the happiness and joy that brings to me in this case, that you breathe in every single deatil or piece of story about this world. So, no matter how much time it takes to you, you do you and we'll watch it no matter what. And combat-whise, it's one of THE BEST combats i've tasted in several years. so much so that i want for Squarenix to make a FFVII fighting game. That's how good the combat is, counting sinergy, combos, magics and all. it's A-mazing!!! ADVICE: Again, without spoiling, imma say that the game's really long. My advice would be that you do 3 hs long vids. Of course it's because i want more content, but also it'll help with the games pace. Now, i'm typing this before watching the whole video, so i'm speaking ahead of myself , BUT, if you switch into "Dynamic" difficulty, it'll take a little more time, that's why the suggestion. I really hope for you to keep this hyped and "in awe" of all this beautifull piece of art, music and story. Big hug.-

Yeah with the crafting stuff unless it's a survival game I often don't find it the most engaging and while I wouldn't say it's particularly engaging here either it's also not intrusive or detrimental. I basically just grab ingredients that are directly in my path and craft stuff as it seems useful and I'm getting on just fine. Some of the items are actually pretty good (especially the mist potions) and it doesnt detract from the overall experience of the game. I'm a little over 40 hours in and I think less than 10 minutes of that has been spent in the crafting menu and I'm still keeping up with the craftsmanship levels by just grabbing the stuff that's directly in my path as I explore the rest of the game. Haven't had to go out of my way for crafting materials yet (except for a few side quest specific items but those are actually pretty interesting sidequests and the items for them as far as I can tell are not locked behind having a specific crafting level)

I’ve been busy playing Rebirth myself so I haven’t been able to watch anyone play and idk how far you are into the game but if you aren’t too far I would recommend changing it to graphics mode. It gets rid of the blurriness and it looks soooooo good in graphics mode it’s crazy! Edit 1: I think you are the first person I’ve watched who immediately said Queen’s Blood is a little like chess. That made me happy cause it’s the first thing I said.

Can't confirm or deny anything, just wanted to say again that you're unbelievably perceptive. On the tech side of things, while the game did improve some things, it also is a bit of a step-back in others (mostly lighting and textures), but I'm sure they'll fix it at some point. If you can bear with these technical shortcomings, everything else about the game is even better than the first one and makes it look like a demo. Also the devs said their are working on a patch for performance mode.

My guess for the reason why you have to go to a specific location to upgrade your folios is for balance purposes. You're allowed to keep resetting the skills so if you (players) had access to this in the menu, combat would be broken AF 😂 Yeah, it's annoying but it's necessary 😀

One thing with your time line thery there is no time line in the 5 years ago flash back the time line got created when they beat the harbingers which created timelines in the present but not 5 years ago so with that being said there cant be a double cloud in the 5 years ago because there were no timelimes 5 years ago

I suggest going over the rules of queens blood again. You’re not taking advantage of the cards powers in some situations, and a few times where you had a winning card ready to play, and then changed to a different card and lost. Rewatch your last move in the game you lost against the lady in the card box castle. You had a card that would’ve have prevent her from playing ready to go, but then you switched at the last moment

I was still learning how to play. Reading rules is not enough, you need to practice a bit as well... this is the beginning of the game and we JUST discovered Queen's Blood, cut me some slack 😭

The graphics in the performance mode might not improve further. The remake was originally a PS4 game with only 30fps and inferior textures compared to the PS5 version. The PS5 upgrade added improved fidelity and performance. However, Rebirth is now open world, and based on what I've seen from this playthrough, its environments in the first two episodes are far more diverse than the remake. Additionally, considering the game is already 150GB, increasing the texture resolution could add another 100GB. For now, the quality looks good unless I bring my display closer and look for things.

The performance mode was too bad for me, so I stuck with graphics. The 30fps threw me off at first but I've gotten used to it

I really think it depends on what you're playing on! I can imagine how worse it might look on a big 4k TV with performance mode, but for my monitor it's fine. But yeah, you can get used to everything!

@@WhimsyPsyche Yeah, I did end up switching to Performance for a bit, and lowering the resolution actually helped with the blurry quality. I don't know if there was an update or something, but I just switched back to graphics, and the frame rate seems to be a lot better. Might just he in my head, though.

Did you play Remake on PC by chance? If so, that's probably why the game looked way better. On console you have to choose between it looking good and 60 FPS, but the PC can handle both. There's also a LOT more assets on the screen in this game at the same time and the areas are way larger so it's harder on the console to render everything than in Remake.

"Can I romance both of them?" It will never stop irking me that so few games w/romance mechanics make characters bi and poly. It would be EASIER to program, you just don't check gender/existing relationships! There's no reason for it to not be the default! "Not the love triangle" I am okay with it as long as it ends correctly, which is to say either the "endpoints" hook up and the "chooser" is left in the cold, or they all embrace poly. So here that would be either Tifa/Aerith or a triad. I'd find either acceptable. ;)

Just a suggestion: in this open world areas you could focus more on main story and do just some of sidequests(not all) so you can go back in these areas after finish the game to see more sidequests. Just saying this because will take too long to clear everything.

Youl should definitely check out Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, Zack's story. It explains of lot of stuff you are thinking about. It's the official prequel to FFVII and the Reunion remaster came out 2022, and actually was meant to play between FFVII Remake and FFVII Rebirth, or rather "suggested" by the developers. However, it contains major spoilers for the story, so maybe you want to play it after Rebirth? :)
