I feel like that´s a common trope in anime. People shrink, when they get older... Their backs bend, sometimes they lose a few inches of height.. In anime, where everything is a bit more over-the-top, they become like literally 2 feet shorter xDxD It reminds me of Gran Torino in MHA, or Master Rossi in Dragon Ball.

Himmel is Gerrman for heaven or the heavens/the sky. That's why there's so many shots of the sky with Frieren. She now takes Himmel along her journeys... even though she missed the opportunity when he was alive :') At least that's my analysis! Love how you pointed out the negative space!

I love this show and it's probably one of the most beautiful animes I've seen in a long time. Everything from the characters to the artwork and animations. To me this show is just perfect. It invokes some sort of nostalgia about an adventure you never took part in. It's kind of weird, but really really beautiful at the same time.

Himmel is technically a side character that feels like the Main character. Since you talked about seeing the sky a lot... Himmel means Heaven/Sky. It's also why his color scheme is Sky Blue.

I think this anime is a breath of fresh air compared to a bunch of action ones that want a story to tell. It's very much a slice of life anime like Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid and has the same feels to it. Very character driven and has amazing art and music.

I don't know well about this ch and I almost laughed her tension at the beginning of jjk 2×13. But, I could realize her fine deep sensitivity and admire for atitude. I think that she is very wise&clever, just not showing herself like so. At post-timing, impossible to avoid all info… must be hard to have a perfect-pure react, excluding its plot. Himmel's name means sky or heaven... see all the times you see the sky dominate or have a soft presence in shot composition, and whenever they talk ABOUT Himmel. Here's the thing about Heiter's request to Frieren to decipher Ewig's grimoire - he says he wants more time and he's even more afraid of dying now... but he's not afraid of death, as in himself dying - he's afraid of what will happen to Fern when he passes and if she'll be ok... One last thing - all the names in this show, person, place and thing, have meaning in German: Frieren - Freezing, or melancholic cold Himmel - Sky / Heaven Heiter - Jolly Eisen - Iron Fern - remote, distant Stark - Strong Flamme - Flame, fire Qual - Torment Lugner - Liar Linie - Line, as in production line in an assembly plant Draht - Wire Sein - To exist Kraft - Power

Elves aren't immortal. I'm not too aware of many fantasy setting that have immortal races (at least not elves).

Tolkien elves are immortal, and his works are foundational books for the fantasy genre. Frieren elves don't seem to be as immortal, but there is no indication that they will die from simply wold age.

With the definition of immortal, I'm not sure whether or not Tolkien elves are actually immortal. Otherwise other races could technically be immortal. But in Tolkien's work, immortal has a slightly different definition. But in the context of our definition, they're not immortal.

So, in a way, we're both right. It just depends on how deep you go. If we do go soul deep, then pretty much any race is "immortal" as long as their soul has a place to go. But it's typically the body that's counted as being unkillable, not the soul. You can say that that's pedantic, but it's pretty strange to say that an immortal being can be killed so simply. That hardly makes them immortal. But it also all depends. If Tolkien says that elves in his world are immortal, then that definition of immortality is different from ours. But if we're using our vocabulary, then it isn't immortality.

The reincarnation is in the same body with all their memories, by the way. The "immortals" in Baccano are called that even though they can be absorbed by another immortal. The Christian God is called immortal even though he is also said to be omnipotent. Being immortal unless a certain artifact is destroyed is also a common trope. Absolute immortality is so rare in fiction, and not even guaranteed as someone might discover an yet unknown method of killing the immortal, that the term is commonly used more loosely, as in the above examples.
