I once heard someone perfectly describe this show “A sense of nostalgia and deep sorrow, that makes you feel like you lived this even thought it has never even happened” this show makes me feel like I was there and I have lived this life along with Frieren I just don’t know how it’s possible. Frieren doesn't have a complex narrative, but it has a poignant narrative. In fact many aspects of it are generic, yet the way its executed is just so well done that it just works in every way. I usually hate generic tropes in shows, yet they presented everything in this show so well that this has become one of my favourite shows from the past 5 years.

This series is basically the whole, the ending of one story/journey is the beginning of a new story/journey. The series is emotional, but it's also a lot of different things. There's melancholy and joy, battles and much darker elements. This series will basically tell the story about the heroes who defeated the Demon King while also telling a new adventure of the next generation of heroes, guided by Frieren this time around. But Himmel is always there because he had a massive impact on Frieren as a person. The lyrics of the opening and ending songs are about Frieren's feelings towards Himmel.

Noticed how many times you mention how beautiful the art is, in a way I was like that when watching this show, I found my self pausing to take screenshots and replaying certain scenes again and again just soak up all the details. For me, just to name few, things like clothing animation, colour pallet, lighting, backgrounds shots really stood out.

It's great to have a show like this. It's very much the tone I love about Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid. Slice of life, character driven. Frieren and Himmel didn't have anything going on.

I’m definitely getting some romantic feelings coming from Himmel towards Frieren in the flashbacks of their adventure but it’s very subtle 🤔 and her towards him once he’s gone ugh.

The point of her journey is realizing what she didn't notice these things back then, even if they affected her in retrospect. She's now trying to correct for those mistakes. It doesn't work if she was already in love back then. She's falling in love with her memories but in the moment she did not feel that way and she was very blunt about that back then. Then there's the fact that she's an elf and that affects her ability to see romance.

@@SrGigglesandlaughs Spoilers (Dont answer me if you didn't read the manga): I apologize if my english is bad, english is not my main language In newer chapters of the manga, a demon put Frieren and Himmel in a illusion of their deepest desire, and the desire was in a wedding, marrying eachother, we don't even see Frieren realizing her feelings, or they have never been addresed, but it makes sense, considering we saw her cry for the first time with the death of Himmel, we never even see her cry with Her master death, who's she spent way more time with her, an eisam replaced her master as the person she most cares about with Himmel, She spent a lot of time finding the ring himmel gave her, even if that wasn't the only thing Himmel gave her, She put the promise with the Dwarf "Voll" of going to heaven to see Himmel at the same scale of Voll promise with his wife of protecting his village, the dwarf's promise with his wife was to protect the village, Voll is protecting the village for more than a hundred years, extending his life time for his wife, Frieren makes everyhing about Himmel, for her the party is "Himmel and the others", this is a bit offtopic but there's a official art of a Frieren doll hugging a small Himmel doll, while the rest of the party are besides them. All of the things i said happen very early on the story except the first thing i said so i dont think that Frieren just fell in love with him at the moment he died, obviously Frieren feelings for Himmel before his death are up to interpretation but i personally think that she was in love with him back then already, it makes sense since even now she doesn't realize her feelings for him so can i ask how her having feelings for Himmel, before his death would not work for the story?

If you haven't already I would recommend watching the official english version of the intro "Brave" by Yaosobi, the translation is great and the animations is in my opinion better than in the regular opening. ^_-
