A New Mineral Discovery in Amity, NY, with Glenn Rhein

This video documents the recent discovery of new minerals from Glenn Rhein in the classic locality of Amity, New York, near Warwick. Glenn discovers amazing crystals while excavating on his property, and reaches out to the mineral community for help in figuring out what they are. Is any of gemstone quality? Do you have the mineral rights? For those who don't understand. NY is one of those states where you own the land....... but not really.

It amazes me no end how many good minerals and even huge crystals can be found so near the surface. I had always thought you needed to dig quite deep in the earth's crust to find things like this.

Where in New York is the best place to find gemstones and minerals such as these? having grown up in the state i don't want to leave it, however i do love searching for these minerals, its always so satisfying to find good ones. I was considering Herkimer county for their quartz crystals or "Herkimer Diamonds" but i wasn't sure if that was really my best option.
