This was a surprisingly important episode, even though it did not look like it. In the green palace only eunuchs are allowed in, and they are checked out by other eunuchs if they, ehm... fulfill the requirements.

5:13 The thing is, back then it was very dangerous for women to voice their opinions. As Maomao has said multiple times, the serving women of the palace are seen as extremely expendable. Say the wrong thing to someone in a higher position and you'd be severely punished. Even today woman can still be given a difficult time voicing their opinions.😞

9:52 If we remember the very last scene on last episode, there's someone in cloak who gives the warehouse guard the exact same pipe. In this episode, the sus-looking military guy (we learn his name is Lakan) is only looking at the pipe without taking it with him; allowing Maomao to solve the case. If Lakan is the culprit behind the explosion, he should've taken the pipe with him because that high-quality smoking pipe could be used as evidence to track him down. But he didn't take it back, he only let it be. Why? There's definitely something more going on in here.

Eunuch status is required to be in rear palace UNLESS Emperor kin. I think the Eunuch stays for Jinshi and Gaoshen are stories to justify their presence in rear palace and disguise Jinshi’s real status. I think Maomao knows this but is self deceiving herself because she is afraid of their relationship.

When Maomao was still in the Rear Palace, her friend was the one who told her about a new beautiful eunic that was stationed there. I think that was the only time it was mentioned and that's just gossip. Just guessing, but I don't think he is. If he is the Emperor's Brother/Son, they would protect the royal bloodline. That's my thoughts, anyways.

@@MegaApostel There is enough Source Material still left for another 6 Season with 24 Episodes (Volume 1 was adapted with the first 12 Episodes of Season 1) and the LN is still ongoing (14 Volumes released in Japan atm) Since it is pretty popular, plus the Fact this Anime got immediately 24 Episodes for the first Season.. i would say the Chances are pretty high for more Season to come.

I know but still doesn’t mean it will get one. The problem is that they are leaning heavily on the manga but that one is only monthly and not that far ahead

Original Source from which the Anime is adapted is still the Light Novel.. the Manga is only used for aditional visual Stuff. It wouldnt hurt if the Anime overtakes it since many other Animes also overtook the Manga at some Point if the original Source was a LN ^^

The Light Novel which it is based on is at Volume 14 atm.. the 2nd part of Season 1 only adapts Volume 2.. so there is at the moment still enough Material for another 6 Season with 24 Episodes (and no one knows how many Volumes the Author plans to write)

Only Eunuchs are allowed in the inner Palace so He is for everyone offcial an Eunuch . So saying that she works for Jinshi wouldnt give her any different information or Jinshi wouldnt be allow to tell the truth. Giving her a better position failed because she dint passed the exam.

MaoMao as teacher... Lishu suffering fatal damages... fantastic.. (*￣▽￣)b That flour bomb was so fun... It reminded me of that event week which was held back in my school days. The group I was in chose to perform some circus tricks. One of the tricks was fire-breather. Obviously, to keep it safe, we used flour. So, you had to take a mouth full of flower and "spit" it into the flame of a torch for a short explosion... This was kind of the time when I had to learn to control my saliva flow, as lumping up flour in one's mouth is absolutely not pleasant at all...

4:49 Fresh Aniki's Question No men other than the emperor are allowed in the rear palace. Therefore, the only men in the rear palace are eunuchs. That is why Jinshi and GaoShun are eunuchs. Rihaku is a military officer because he works for court outside the Palace. I can't say anything from here on because it would be a spoiler⚠️. It's frustrating!

For me that new lady gives me the feeling of not wanting to be there and being forced to basically. She doesn't respect the crown (probably because she's from another country?) and is giving death to her old life/dreams with her opening scene.

Also, the pipe was given to someone in the last episode by the guy with a monicle that's been watching Maomao. (I think it was last episode) They didn't really show much. I'll have to go back and look, but I remember seeing that pipe with him. The question is who is he and why would he want that to happen. He clearly knew it would cause an explosion so what was in there that he wanted burned? I love this show! LOL!

There are prob many reasons why she is not happy. Women becoming concubines is forced on them not what they necessary want.

What are you talking about?? Becoming one of the top 4 concubines in the empire?? Literally everyone would want that, it brings immense influence, power, the possibility to birth the next emperor. Maybe if she was a random courtesan/concubine she would have better prospects outside but that's not her case.

Fuyou's family is higher-ranked than Gyokuyou's and she's clearly smart enough to compete for a main consort position, but she instead used those smarts and every trick in the book (and then some) to get OUT of the palace while keeping her virginity. She got her cake and ate it...

Recall the unhappiness when Ah-Dou said she was transformed from a childhood friend to a consort and her duty required her to comply. I suspect that was compelled on the then Prince and Ah-Dou to become a couple.by the previous Emperor. And her relief to become a friend again after loosing her baby and unable to have babies. Her apparent joy on leaving the rear palace for a new residence. Recall the envy Guyoukou had seeing Fuyou become the wife (not consort) of her childhood friend. Yes woman understood that they were family tools to gain influence through “marriage” or other bonds, e.g. part of a harem, but many did not embrace that as their happiness but duty. I think Lady Lihua was indeed in love with the emperor and wanted his love and child. These examples as well as the sad desires of many courtisans to be bought (or rescued) shows the complexity of woman treatment/expectations and their desires. There was no shame becoming a consort for high status man (and to lesser extent becoming a courtesan albeit their future options were much more limited due to the prostitute stigma). So it is not surprising the new Pure Consort might not desire her fate, although lots of other motivation and feelings may be at play. @@Bayard1503

i think you will like Lakan. And consrt Loulan too. Shes great and you have no idea how important will beher "dont give a fuck about that books". 😀I hope they managed these two plots in first season. Or Lakan story could be movie or soemthing. I almost cried.
